2016-2017 Pens----Still with 100% more Kessel

The thing that makes this extra sweet (other than rubbing it into all my local friends here in the DC/Balt area), is all the Caps "fans" (who aren't really Caps fans, they are bandwagon fans that don't understand the rules of hockey), thought they had a chance tonight, only to watch their team fail.......again.......at home!!!!

**** THE CAPS!!!!

Easy to stand a chance when they have a 6'4 220+ lb Tom Wilson making runs at key players. This was the caps year, and they couldn't pull through.

The Pens have constantly battled adversity all season long. Damn ******* proud of the guys. Hornqvist is a trooper too man. He took that 3rd period momentum

Hell f'n yes!!!!

Sounded like a completely different team tonight!!!

Keep the faith brothas!

What time did the game end? I think my radio app was on a 10 minute delay or times broke. :)

My own divided Caps / Pens household has just completed our handshake line. Normalcy can resume in our marriage again. At least until football season. :-)

Man it really sucks being a Pens fan in the DC market. What a relief to finally move on tonight. Work is gonna be extremely satisfying, tomorrow. :-)

It was in the second period. They fixed it in the third, at least on my end.

This was easily the most physical series we have ever played against the Caps. They usually are more skilled and wide open, and it makes for exciting hockey. This year's slow down and trap game to hit key players is usually what underdogs do. Not President Trophy winners. They tried to beat the Pens, playing a style of game that they haven't played all year. That's why they fail, because the Pens are so in their head, they thought they had to reinvent their team to win. It didn't happen again this year.

Can't wait to wear my jersey tomorrow when I drop my girl off at school. Some teacher told me I had a lot of nerve wearing my Pens jersey to her school. I told her we see a lot more black and gold here during the football season, so I'm surprised there aren't as many Pens fans here as well.

Stole this

The defending Stanley Cup champion Penguins advance to the Eastern Conference Finals against the Ottawa Senators. With the loss, the Capitals have still yet to appear in a championship round in the Alex Ovechkin era.
The Penguins’ 2-0 win featured dynamic goaltending from Marc-Andre Fleury, who made 29 saves for his second career Game 7 win at Verizon Center. It also featured a Capitals team that wasn’t the loose, “nothing to lose” group that had rallied from a 3-1 series deficit to force a Game 7.
Suddenly, they had something to lose. They played like it. Passes didn’t connect. Shots were fumbled. Clearing attempts failed.
This being a Capitals’ Game 7, it was more than that. There were posts hit. There was an Alex Ovechkin shot that deflected off the top of Fleury’s goalie stick. And there was a tough goal surrendered by goalie Braden Holtby in the third period, who had been unflappable in the last two wins and in most of Game 7.
This game was more reminiscent of the first two games of this series, in which Fleury backstopped the Penguins until they could get on the board, than the last two. Pittsburgh looked faster, played smarter and preyed on mistakes.
The Penguins broke through at 8:49 of the second period on a pretty passing play.
A clearing attempt by defenseman Matt Niskanen was intercepted by Ian Cole of the Penguins, who made a quick pass to Sidney Crosby, catching the Capitals flat-footed. Crosby slipped the puck to Jake Guentzel, who found Bryan Rust on the opposite side of Braden Holtby. Rust’s shot beat the goalie high, and it was 1-0.
Rust continued his reputation as Mr. Elimination Game, as he now has eight goals in 11 career elimination game.
In the third period, the Penguins went up 2-0 as Holtby was screened and Patric Hornqvist snuck a shot through him for his fourth of the playoff.
Again, the Capitals had trouble in their own zone in ways that they didn’t in the previous two games, and it cost them.
Game 7 was, once again, a cruel place for the Capitals. They’re now 4-11 in franchise history in Game 7s, and 3-8 in them on home ice. The Penguins remained undefeated (4-0) against their favorite objects of torment in Game 7s.
How poorly have the Capitals fared in Game 7s? Put it this way: Winger Justin Williams, a.k.a. Mr. Game 7, entered the game 7-0 in his career in them, with 14 points.
He didn’t score against the Penguins on Wednesday night.
And he’s now 7-1.

so, who won? lol

wow. wow. wow.

I peeked at the score throughout the night, nervous to even look. Listened to most of the 3rd on my way home and pulled into my driveway at the buzzer sounded. WOW! That's all I've got. Just as I was hoping it would play out.

10 playoff series vs the Caps, 9 wins. We've beaten them every way imaginable. Coming back from 1-3 deficits, winning 4 ot games, and now, letting them come back from the dead, only to rip their hearts out in the end.

this has to be Ovie's most devastating loss in his career. Think of how high he was Monday night to right now. When will he have a better chance to win a Cup? This was supposed to be the team.

Tried going back to the old routine of not getting on this thread until after the game. Superstitious like that.
It was good to see the Pens moving around out there and being aggressive rather than sitting back and waiting.
a

Me too man. I fought the urge to sign on but didn't want to break the karma we had going. I think Pittsburgh fans have to be the most superstitious of all fans out there

Ovechkin and rest of the capitals walk into a bar in the afternoon
Bartender : can I help you ?
Ovechkin : yea , set us all up ! And everyone on my tab .
Bartender : are you sure ?
Ovechkin : yea we don't make it past the second round

What a game/series...******* caps applied dirty play in spots but the good guys showed when they had to.

The Flower played well tonight. Sullivan's line changes worked good. On to Ottawa.

it was a damn rollercoaster and I wanted off. I hate rollercoasters because I have a weak stomach for that ****. i really wanted to throw-up Monday night. It really sounds like they played exactly how we envisioned how they HAD to play to win tonight. I'm not even really sorry I missed it. Them winning is perfect!

I know the feeling. I felt like that after the 2013 series, when Boston whooped us. Coach Sullivan is a legit coach and knows how to control this team when stuff looks out of hand. Sure some guys take a while to adjust to the nhl speed. But the call ups really made a difference. I was impressed by Rowney and Wilson, that line got the pressure early and the rest of the team followed suit. You missed an impressive defensive performance in the 3rd period. If you have nhl network, watch the re-air

Everybody I rag on has a big game!

maybe I should buy a Fleury jersey, or I'll just have another beer

Bring on the Sens!

you know, listening to Mike Lang and Phil Bourque was very satisfying. Their commentary and how they called the third period was so vivid. It made me realize how I loathe NBC. If I get the chance I will watch the re-broadcast, but I'm content knowing they played their tails off and MAF was a wall.

So next time you're at the bar in the DC area, make sure you ask the bartender for an Ovechkin.
Ovechkin? What the heck is that drink?

It's a white russian .... served without a cup!
