2024 draft simulator.

1. Brian Thomas Jr. WR
2. Kamari Lassiter
Georgia · CB
3. Zach Frazier C
3B. Mohamed Kamara
Colorado State Edge (probably would change if had available 4th listing)
It's a tough one as many of the 2nd round favorites are gone before we pick. I think Barton can be a pro bowl player either at C, G or T and therefore I'm picking him ahead of JPJ.
1 Barton C/G/T
2 Wilson WR
3 Frazier C
3b Abrams draine CB
4 Some development S or DT

It's an open competition for 5 starting spots at the Oline, let the games begin

rumor has it that neither Tomlin nor Khan were at JPJ's pro day.
doesnt bode well for taking a center in the first. adjust mocks accordingly.
Or maybe they don’t care to make it obvious, and have seen enough.

Mock the mock:

1.20 Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia
2.51 Lamari Lassiter, CB, Georiga
3.84 Javon Baker, WR, Central Florida
3.98 Sedrick Van Pran, C, Georgia
4.119 Jordan Travis, QB, Florida State
1.20 Michael Penix Jr QB Washington. Yeah a chance I am taking to possibly upgrade the most important position on the team.

2.51- Keon Coleman, WR – Florida State- My sleeper pick to help solidify the position.

3A-Jarvis Brownlee Jr., CB – Louisville- The guy is a gamer. More I watch the more I like.

3B-98 Sedrick Van Pran, C, Georgia- Think he goes round 2 but I will definitely take a stab here.

4. Tykee Smith, S – Georgia-I liked him early I liked him late.

1.20 Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson
I know we need offense, but he chance to have a lockdown duo at cornerback was tough to pass up.

2.51 Roman, Wilson, WR, Michigan
Getting a playmaker for this offense.

3.84 Malachi Corley, WR, Western Kentucky
Why not? Let's double down on receivers.

3.98 Sedrick Van Pran, C, Georgia
I missed out on the early centers, so I stuck with Van Pran.

4.119 Tykee Smith, S, Georgia
Looking for young depth at safety.

Couldn't argue with this draft. I really think if the opportunity is there for the team to take two WRs they should.

I would be super pumped if Mims fell to us.

per Dulac, we're unlikely to take a T and C in back to back rounds (1-2). that said...

The only negative here is I didn't get legitimate DL help. Getting Alt and Van Pran paired with Jones from last year make our OL a strength for the next decade. Roman has speed and quickness to burn. Those 1st three picks took a lot of luck. Hart and Gray have potential and Travis in the 7th is a steal as he fits the mold of Wilson and Fields.

I’d give Penix an open shot at starting, best QB wins type situation.

Great draft

The absolute need for Center drives the entire draft. You don't need to take one in rd 1, but you then almost have to take one in rd 2 or else you may wind up in another Kendrick Green situation where you expect a mid round guy to start day 1.

I think Hunter Nourzad from PSU is a good late round prospect but can you hang your whole season on him being ready week 1?

To me it seems JPJ and Frazier are the top 2 by a wide margin. Van Pran is probably next but I'm not sure he's a can't miss. That's the problem. The steelers can't miss on this pick.

I keep wanting to take CB/S Cooper DeJean and DT Johnny Newton in rd 1. I think both would be immediate impact players and the steelers certainly need a slot CB and a replacement for Cam. That puts big pressure on getting that C in round 2.

Another problem with mocks. Do we even know what blocking scheme they want to use? Arthur Smith has preferred zone blocking. STeelers have recently been more power. So, do we look for athletic zone blockers, or powerful road graders?

I'm thinking the best thing may be to trade back. If they can drop back a 8 to 10 slots and gain an extra 2 or 3, that's seems the best scenario. You would then get a better value taking C, maybe still land the first C at pick 27ish.

I added Barton to the top C list, I'd draft him ahead of the other two. If Frazier is available in the 3rd round I double dip and move Barton to T, else he is my starting Center

This OT draft is very deep. I would take Fashanu if he fell because he will be an elite pass blocker. Play him at LT. Let Jones develop into a monster run blocker at RT. If he's off the board, you can wait until round 3, maybe round 4 and get a quality OT.

There are 3 guiys i'd jump up and down for, LT Fashanu, Wr Odunze, and CB Quinyon Mitchell. I think any of them would be an immediate starter and impact player but i doubt any make it to the steelers. OT, WR and CB are also deep in the draft so you can wait and get a good player, but i would come off plan to draft any of these 3.

I'm leaning toward Barton as well, though he hasn't played center since his freshman year. Seems like the best athlete for the position and biggest upside.

Frazier is tough but not a great athlete. He's not Pouncey. Van Pran is an athlete but not that tough. I bet the steelers have one of these guys crossed off their list. Historically the steelers want an athlete and would likely not be high on Frazier, but maybe they are going a different way with Arthur Smith.

I dunno can he make the switch? I know he has played the position but it wasn't his last. Those types always make me nervous. Do they really have the luxury thinking he is a plug and play and not a developmental? JPJ is no athletic slouch. I would still take him if available. He looks to be a day 1 plug and play.

Sorry, but I’m sick of bringing in a project. I get he may be a later round pick, allowing us to possibly get another need but I also have seen “projects” of the past and have been set back 2 years as well.

Draft a player to play the position they play, seems like a new concept with this coaching staff.

^^^ This!

From 1964 to 2020 only Five men played Center for the storied Pittsburgh Steelers. Ranger Mansfield, Iron Mike, Dirt Dawson, Hartings, and Pouncey. Go get another sure thing in the middle and let's get back to Stiller football.
