Even though many didn't like the Archer pick, he will touch the ball every game and I'm looking forward
to 4 WR sets with Brown, Wheaton, Archer, Bryant.

I don't know how teams cover that, particularly with Ben working the no huddle.

How about going 5 wide and tossing Moore in there as well, who would obviously be your safety valve/hot read guy. Very dangerous, and let's not forget Bell can catch out of the backfield as well.

Joe

Moore would be in over Archer. In fact, early on, the only way I see Archer being in is as a sidecar in the backfield with 3 WR sets.

oh good. going by 21's assessment, our passing game will be dependent upon the success/failure of a 2nd year player and a group of rookies.

Archer won't be in the slot anytime soon. I don't wanna turn this into another 10-page thread, but expecting him to jump into the passing game and be a target is shortsighted IMO. As TMC said, his best bet for offensive opportunity will be what Rainey got IMO. A few snaps in the backfield and a touch or two per game would be my bet.

Our 4-wide sets will probably feature Bryant and DHB on the outside, Brown and Wheaton inside.

Wow, I completely forgot about DHB as well. Again, this offense will not lack for weapons, could be a very difficult season for opposing defenses.

If the O line can continue where they left off last year and get better under Munchak we could be really good. DHB's speed still has to be respected on the outside. Bryant Wheaton Moore Miller Bell Blount and whatever we can get from Archer. We have weapons. Oline's development will be key.

And I brainfarted on Moore. DHB actually may not make this roster.

I think Moye is the one on the hot seat. Since he doesnt play special teams.

Yeah, I think Moye has played his last down for us, barring a training camp injury. Plex will officially ride off into retirement as well.

empty backfields scare the hell out of me. 3 WRs plus speedy archer in a pony backfield would be awesome

Who would make it over him? Moye, J. Brown, or one of the other camp bodies? I don't expect them to keep more than 5 WR's, that would be Brown, Wheaton, Moore, Bryant, DHB. Both Wheaton and DHB play special teams, not sure if you try to put Bryant on or not with his height.

Do we know if Archer can block?

He will be on his man like a chihuahua on a pants leg. Just hope he has more impact. Although he may be the target on screen passes as he seems to disappear before many guys can react to him. He will be this years gimmick guy on the team.

Experience has value, but not sure how long Moore (4.6) can hold off Archer (4.2).
Can't teach that kind of speed. Not many slot CB's can keep up. Look for Heath to have
a big year. He will be grabbing balls underneath as DB's chase the speed.

Archer will line-up in the slot, no doubt about it. See Haley's playbook from KC days. He'll also line-up in other spots, but he'll be in the slot often enough.

Flag on the field. You say you've been here so long yet you violated a trademark. Its "5 WIDE, *******" or don't say it at all. Trademark infringement lawsuit to follow.

I don't understand this. Does anybody really think the Steelers are going to put Archer in the slot and other teams are going to use DBs (plural) to chase him? Everybody talked about Evans not running a full route tree in college well **** me.... Archer hasn't seen a real route tree yet. You can't have a slot guy just running down the field. Also if he plays the slot he is more likely to get hit by bigger players like LBers who happen to play in the middle of the field.

Also remember they had 2 guys playing RT last year at the same time. If the OL doesn't play any better then you are taking one weapon off the field.

Not saying you're wrong, but a touch or two per game for a 3rd round pick seems like a waste. I would hope a 3rd rounder could contribute a little more than that.

That kind of speed isn't teachable.

When you go back to back 8-8, your next season does rely on added new blood.
Most of our new blood will be rookies and the Steelers will actually be relying on rookies more
on defense than offense.

Archer, coming in as a rookie is not much smaller than Moore was when he entered the league. Moore's combine height and weight: 5-9, 182. Archer's combine height and weight: 5-8, 173. Moore has had some injuries, but he hasn't been busted up. I'm just hoping that they are not thinking that this kid is a RB, because not only will he get broken, so will Ben.
