The Federal Bureau of Investigation three times interviewed Omar Mateen for having alleged terrorist ties before he killed 50 people and injured 53 others at a gay nightclub in Orlando, the deadliest shooting in U.S. history. FBI learned of him in 2013 after he made inflammatory remarks to coworkers and alleged terrorist ties, said FBI Special Agent In Charge Ron Hopper. The FBI investigated and interviewed witnesses and Mateen, but closed the investigation. He came to the FBI's attention again in 2014 for making contact with a suicide bomber. FBI determined their connection was minimal and closed the investigation

Why don't you blame the FBI, who dropped the ball not once but twice on this guy? Why not blame the security company that hired him? He evidently cleared all their secuirty checks. Why not blame current gun laws that allowed this madman to purchase an automatic weapon? Nah, let's blame Obama.

Yup, you guys are right. Banning assault weapons is a terrible idea. Being armed to the teeth as Americans currently are really goes a long way in making sure mass shootings like this don't occur. Thankfully, just about everyone has a gun, and adding even more guns will increase our level of safety and protection from mass shootings, thus making it safer for everyone.

As a society we decided after Sandy Hook, that children being gunned down with assault weapons is perfectly acceptable, thus no adjustment to gun laws were required. Since then, we continue down this path, under no circumstance should we revisit gun laws, perhaps ban assault weapons, et al. Things are perfectly normal just as they are.

Secondly, what rifle isn't an assault weapon? It is a bullshit term to single out a group of firearms.

One of the problems with the ban this and that stuff is the rifles that get caught up in the wash. I enjoy shooting the M1 Garand for fun and in high power rifle shoots every once and a while. The ban crowd will sweep pieces of history like that up in their ban everything zeal. My M1 Carbine will go, too. Then, what's next? Will my '03, because it was once a military rifle go too?

Not one automatic weapon in any of those ads....and while automatic weapons are not technically banned, without a dealers license, they are ridiculously difficult to obtain.

My prediction is this. James Comey, the FBI director, will end up taking the fall for the fact that the FBI was onto this guy and he slipped through. Calls will begin for him to be removed. He will be, and Obama will appoint another sycophant. Hillary Clinton's email situation miraculously goes away.

At the very least, a flag should have been thrown to the FBI that a guy on their watch list - a guy they'd questioned twice - a guy they knew was ****** up - had gone through the background check process to acquire guns. No, this is not to place all blame on the FBI. This is to place blame on the government agencies funded by taxpayer monies under the guise of protecting the populace. If government agencies cannot communicate within each other to do their jobs, how can we, the taxpayers, continue to fund their ineffective policies?

very possible. and if it happens, just shows what kind of shell game the corrupt politicians are running. the general public has no idea the vast number of threats, tips, etc the FBI receives. They have to sort out credible from false and that takes time. Time is not an asset at their disposal in the milli-second culture we live in now.

I was arrested (charges were dropped) in 1994 on an assault with a deadly weapon charge. I'm still flagged by the FBI. Every time I buy a gun it takes a full week for approval. It took damn near a year for my CC permit to get approved.
