Allen Robinson trade in the works from LAR…..per Bleacher Report.

Do you think he will be there in the 3rd round, our pick spot ? I’m not asking if we take him, just if you thinbk he will be there ?

I think he is a round 3/4 prospect. I think he has a good chance of being on the board in 3. At our pick. But with AR on board I just don't know if we see a WR before the 4th.

I've never heard of the guy.
As a football fan, it's strange that you would never have heard of a guy who was a standout at Penn State, was the NFL leader in receiving touchdowns in 2014, and had 100+ receptions in 2020.

provided Robinson passes a physical, this is a great deal for the Steelers. They are getting one of the most reliable WRs in the NFL that can play inside or outside.

Robinson played for Jax and Chicago on some of the worst offenses with bad QB play and he still produced.

This is a huge pickup because the steelers absolutely needed a WR that could contribute immediately this year. In doing mock drafts, working in a WR was making it tough. That's because this WR class is top heavy and then a bunch of depth guys. The Steelers may have had to draft a guy as high as Rd 2 to ensure they got a good enough player to contribute as a rookie.

Now the Steelers have a solid starting 3. If Calvin Austin develops or Anthony Miller develops then great. They may still draft a WR late as more depth but getting Robinson fills a huge hole at a thin draft position.

A healthy Robinson in a favorable situation is one of the top 20 WRs in the league. The dude literally catches everything he can reach. He's smart and works zones like nobody's business. On top of those things, a very mature guy with a great work ethic. A natural leader on and off the field. Our young WRs will benefit greatly from this move...so will Kenny. This is that WR that you look for when things are breaking down. Robinson is one of the best at using his big body to make himself open when he's covered.

Seriously, in a year with a relatively weak WR class, when you can't afford to spend a high pick on another WR, this is a very strong move by the FO. He may be willing to renegotiate that contract too, if he's healthy and enjoying life in the B&G.

Robinson is probably no longer a top 20 receiver, but it's still excellent trade value for the Steelers, and the fact that the Rams are retaining two thirds of his salary makes the deal even better.

Steelers reportedly getting Robinson for a 7th rounder an $5 Mill guaranteed

Just for comparison, here are some free agent WR deal this year

Jets - Allan Lazard 4 yr 44 Mill - 22 guaranteed
Raiders - Jakobi Meyers 3 ys 33 mill - 21 guaranteed
Pats - JuJu 3 yrs 25.5 mil - 16 guaranteed - this is a great deal for the pats
Ravens - Odell 1 year 15 mill guaranteed

Great deal for the steelers

This is a great post. But I would use the phrase stays healthy over passes a physical.

I won't be surprised if the steelers get another cheap veteran WR for depth. A few guys still available

Randall Cobb
Jarvis Landry
Sammy Watkins
Breshad Perriman
Olamide Zaccheaus
Demarcus Robinson

Sorry if this has already been answered.is this just a 1 year deal?

No, Robinson signed a three year, $46.5 million contract with the Rams prior to the 2022 season. $30.25 million is guaranteed including a $14 million signing bonus. Robinson's 2022 and 2023 compensation is fully guaranteed, but not 2024, when he is owed $15 million. 2023 will be the second year of the contract.

If he produces, renegotiate the contract. If not, cut him and free up $15 million in cap space.

Robinson has no guaranteed money next year but I read his cap number would be too big. One year rental.

A

And I see no way he is on the roster next year without a severely reduced salary. I still see a possible draft pick this year even with him on the team.

I'm a Steelers guy and a casual college football guy that will focus on a handful of teams. It's been a number of years since making 100 catches in a season really meant something. Now that's pretty normal and so are 300 yard passing games. So unless you're really making a huge splash it's not going to jump on my radar. It's just not a hobby of mine keeping up with players on other teams. If that was my job, then I would.

So I hope he works out. I'll obviously be rooting for him. They've grabbed a lot of worn out has been s the last few years, so it's hard to get excited until he does something for the Steelers. What he did 3 years ago on another team doesn't really matter.

I'm more excited to see what Calvin Austin 3 can do. I hope he's durable.

I think he should start digging now.

Between Myself / BLITZ / Paul / Lunar (LS10 driver) we will handle the OC duties until his return (he has to make it to china before returning).

fedderone has to remain on call 4hr before and 1 hr after each game, just in case we needOC help or bail money.

PS

That’s the beauty of this signing / contract. We are not on the hook for any guaranteed money or length of contract. YES, we can retain his current contract but would be foolish to do so without renegotiating it.

You know, I really can’t find a fault with this. It’s reminiscent of bringing a 29 year old Jerricho Cotchery in to be a veteran Depth wr…
Ueah I’m never a fan of paying 5 million dollars for a third wr who isn’t playing slot, but regardless he is undervalued and it removes the need to get another outside wr in the draft…

As far as I am concerned we can pretty much go BPA at any point and be ok this season… there are upgrades we could use, but not any real “ Needs”

With ALL the moves made this off-season, I believe you are correct.
There is no need to reach now for a position of need.
We can now select BPA that can be an impact player/contribute right away.

Sure we're still deficient at OL, DL, ILB, and secondary.
And we won't be taking a QB, RB, P, K, LS with our first four picks ( 17, 32, 49, 80 ).
But other than those positions, EVERY other position should be on the table.

Obviously a lot will depend on how the draft shakes out.
There's no way to accurately predict what the other 16 teams ahead of us will do, or if someone trades up in front of us.......or if we decide to move ourselves.
But I think these moves set us up to get an instant starter at 17 and possibly another 1-2 with our next two selections.

So this is a great example of how cap space can be an asset.. and why wasting it can be very problematic…
The Rams went all in a couple years ago to win a Super Bowl… now that strategy doesn’t always work as well as it did then, but they mortgaged the future to do it.
The cap problems they assimilated doing that meant they would need to totally rebuild and move expensive but productive older players for cap space… much like us getting a broken WJ3 last year for free… this guy was basically traded for 5 million in cap space

With the value of WRs right now, that isn’t insignificant at all…

Not blowing cap money and rolling it over can effectively get you major upgrades in the trade department as teams continue to gamble on all in type seasons or need to clear cap space for massive signings

There are usually between 5-10 players with 100+ receptions in recent seasons. Here's a list of the players with more catches than Robinson in 2020:
Stefon Diggs, Davante Adams, DeAndre Hopkins, Darren Waller, and Travis Kelce. Have you heard of any of them?

To me, keeping up with players on other teams is a bit different than never having heard of an accomplished former Pro Bowl wide receiver. No big deal.

I'll be rooting for Robinson, too. I can assure you that, if he's healthy, he'll be a very good player for the Steelers.

I'm a bit more excited about a 6'2, 220 lb. NFL veteran with 500+ receptions and 40+ touchdowns (who's still in his 20s, not a worn out has-been) than I am about a guy who spent the entirety of his lone season on the injured list and has yet to play a single down in the NFL.

Those guys are playing on premier teams on primetime or they've burned the Steelers, so yeah I know them in that sense. Perhaps if I played fantasy football I'd know them all, I don't have any interest in that.

I'll normally only check into opposing teams on game week through the Bleacher Report.

Robinson could find his “spiritual home“ here like James farrior did he’s an old Penn stater he has great size and the tools to be solid for us. bears qbs couldnt never find him rams didn’t really use him. Some good veteran leadership on our offense, with as many young Players as we have, can’t hurt.
