An Intelligent Organization Would start Rudolph 10/10.

Ben is the only way we will can win. I don't think they necessarily need to win this weekend (which would be awesome and we would be 2-2 exactly where most people would have put us at this start of season) ,they just need to play well and show signs of life.

Yes - Ben is 39 but he can't be talked about as MVP (which he was in the discussion after the 11-0 start last season) to washed up in 7 games.

If D is healthy and receivers catch the ball they can compete with anyone.

11 drops against the Bengals, think about that. If those were catches, say 8 of them how much different the game would have looked.

While Rudy is better than people on this board give him credit for, there is no reason to start him over Ben…

Ben isn’t physically done like manning or elway or brees were in their Final seasons… he is diminished but not in a way that putting in the backup gets you any advantage …

Also its three games into the season… you can start 0-4 and still make the playoffs… if you are talking the last couple games of a lost season then maybe… but this is just knee jerk overreacting…

PS

How the hell do you have 11 drops, double digits in one game???? Who the hell is the WRs coach ?

When I coached, I made the WR, TE, and RBs practice without gloves. Made a world of difference. players rely on the grip of the gloves.

True...

Another thing we should all consider is its still "September" football until next week imo..

We have a long way to go to be playoff competitive......but there is alot of football left to be played..

If Ben plays this week they need to let him go no-huddle as much as he wants. That is if they are serious about winning. If not the status quo will be fine.

Ike hilliard, and while i loved him as a player… he hasn’t exactly impressed me as a coach… if bruce Arians is the gold standard, he is between the tin foil and aluminum levels to date…

3 of those 11 drops came on the Steelers' final possession, when the game was already decided. Not excusing them, just pointing out that they had no effect on the result.

How about Ben's 4 deep overthrows? I wonder how much difference completing a couple of those might have made.

Although I definitely hear what you are saying I find it hard to believe it's just the gloves making them miss. I think the gloves are a low part of the problem.

I think it's muscle vs eye problem. You always hear about watching it into your hands well there is truth to that, especially for the lower levels. By the time you are in the NFL you should have muscle memory built to that degree but the problem is it takes continual work to get that and keep it. JUGGs machine is a great aid.

Little chest was notorious for using the JUGGs, JuJu is also one to use it religiously. Last year Deonte Johnson publicly went to the use of one. You can see where I'm going here, develope and maintain that muscle memory of a catch. It does take eye hand coordination but that is exactly what muscle memory helps with.

Ebron could turn his catch ratio completely around should he chose to do so with a JUGGs machine. Of course you will only get out of it what you put into it so attitude would benefit or hinder pending on how serious you are towards improvement. Ebron has shown lacadazicalness towards work. Chase needs work.

Keep in mind that you must keep eye contact on ball while making a catch but the repetitiveness of the JUGGs will make that all the much easier to do due to muscle memory.

Thanks for jousting my memory.

Bring in another coach, 11 drops is definitely not something to brag about. There is a problem and it's throughout the WRs room. It needs fixing and should not be acceptable by anybody's standard is the standard bull-****.

No one is saying that.

They are losing right now, and look terrible doing it with Ben. We all know there is no future there, regardless.

They can lose and look terrible without him as well and at least see if the other two guys hold promise. I don't quite get what the disconnect is with that thought.

****, I'm old enough to remember Joe Namath with the Rams. I'm just not enthused at all watching a former great player like Ben limp to the finish. There is zero joy in it.

It is the attitude of the receiver room that needs to change first. That's gotta come from within, I'm not sure what a coach can do.

11 drops on our team translates to 22 yards. Not that gig of a deal. 🤗

With Coach Tomlin seemingly excusing these drops away, the players look to the top to see how they should react and figure it is no big deal. That attitude is a lot of wrong for this team and have been battling that for a long time.

We as fans can blow them off and joke about it but as a professional it is a big deal. It seems as the lack of caring comes from the coaching staff translates to the players......... If all WRs / RBs / TEs / anyone who catches isn't using the JUGGs machine then Ike H. should be shown the door.

Sorry, I didn't mean to infer that gloves are THE problem, but meant that I've experienced gloves being a part of catching issues. And I agree with you, you need to continually train and nothing beats quality repetition. I coach wrestling and we drill technique everyday and I use the word "quality" because if they drill the technique poorly, it's what they're going to do in competition. Drill, observe, correct, repeat.

I know the hate people have for AB but he was a practice monster

If people spent as much time focusing on what he did great here rather than his **** ups we’d have a better path to fixing the culture

That guy used to stay with two offensive linemen to do sideline drills… one would stand at the sideline where the pass was coming and the other would throw him the ball… his logic was no db could rough him up more on the sideline than an oline guy and nobody would throw worse passes

There shouldn't be 11 drops in a season. It's outrageous. You and I watch a game and think "man, they are not executing their plays." The coach should have more of a reaction. I don't see it. He should be blowing up that situation. Nick Vujicic can do those stats. Pro players? Beyond lame.

There comes a time when execution or anything, is no longer on the player, but the leadership for allowing that culture, etc. So done with this nonsense. Being a bad team, and being unable to compete are different things.

There’s no way Roethlisberger makes it through the season unhurt. Rudolph gets his chance to shine don’t worry. But you don’t bench your future HOF QB after games 4.

GREAT analysis Badcat and I was just adding to what you said. Gloves can be a part but it's the "quality" of drill that counts. Muscle memory works in nearly any kind of sport, as you know. The quality of training is big as well because you are only going to get out what you put into it.

PS Thanks for all your great post(s) along the way, I appreciate them.!

The only reason I would start Mason over Ben is...let Mason go in there and get beat up behind this offensive O-Line instead of Ben.

Good points. When I coached baseball, I would ask, "Does practice make perfect"? Kids say yes. I say, "NO. Perfect practice makes perfect."

Practicing the right technique is laborious, time-consuming, sometimes boring. Also, we all tend to do what we do well, so if a kid can turn on an inside pitch, he will look for the inside pitch to kill and continue to fail on pitches away. NOPE - learn to hit pitches outside corner. Perfect practice.

Don’t be stupid. Mason hasn’t had the opportunity to play with a decent group. He was drafted to replace Ben and he should get a fair shot. At this point, he can’t possibly be worse than what Ben is puking onto the gridiron…
I'm in tears laughing at this. Ben can't play behind this HORRIBLE OL w/ 18 years of experience and you want to trot out Mr. Yips??? COMEDY GOLD!!!
