But still NOTHING in this Manafort trial had ANYTHING to do with Trump, NOTHING. As far as the Russian investigation goes it was a complete and utter waste of time in the scheme of things and does not bring us any closer to anything having to do with Trump. This could and should have been handled by a separate normal investigation.

Because this trial was the precursor of his next trial coming up in three weeks.

Manafort’s legal troubles won’t end with this trial. He is also facing charges in a separate federal court case in Washington, including conspiring against the United States, conspiring to launder money, failing to register as an agent of a foreign principal and providing false statements.

As I've been saying all along, we know nothing about what Mueller has on Trump. He is charging all players on whatever (lesser) crimes they've committed, and continues to hone in on the investigation into conspiracy and obstruction of juctice (my best guess). This is classic prosecutorial strategy in building a case, for instance against a mob or racketeeting ring involving many players. Going after the small fish to get to the big fish. Nothing out of the ordinary, it's how it's always been done. In fact, it's classic, by-the-book operations in cases like this. Since this is the president who's involved, Mueller has to have iron-clad proof and evidence of wrong doing. Going after Flynn, Manafort and now Cohen would seem to confirm this approach.

That's my take on it, anyway.

As Trump gets dragged into these criminal charges involving his personal lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen, for those sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for the Russian conspiracy & obstruction of juctice charges...you'll have to be a bit more patient. That's a separate investigation, mind you, the Cohen case is being prosecuted by the NY district attorney. Bob Mueller's been hard at work on his original mandate. What we're seeing today are charges to corresponding crimes. I don't think anything is off the table. Mueller now has three critical witnesses charged with serious crimes facing serious jail time. He'll continue building his case from here.
