Bell - No Structural Damage

Brown hadn't played in 8 of the last 10 games. no idea what all the hand-wringing is for. relax...we signed Ted Beneke to the Practice Squad.

Well, since he's not running the Fed. anymore I guess he needs something to do............

Tate is a very good blocker and capable of picking up blitzes. He has good hands out of backfield and just needs to run thru the holes. Maybe the 2 headed monster with Harris will be successful, sure as hell beats having Archet splitting time.

Still wish they would have signed Richard Huntley or Demarco Murray as soon as Blunt rolled out

I don't think it means that at all. They need another running back for practice and an option to play if he isn't ready. I wouldn't say the odds of him playing are good, but this signing doesn't signify anything to me.

I don't think that's necessarily true. It's to early in the week and they don't know how his knee will respond by Thursday or Friday. Need to have a back up plan.

That's where we disagree then. I don't sign a player and drop another player from my Roster if the injured player can play. You can make it through practice with Will J, Harris, and Archer for 4 days. IMHO Bell has a 5% chance of playing, otherwise there would be no reason to make a roster move.

If that is their long term plan for Bell he won't have much of a career. He will be worn out in four seasons. Blount played. Just not enough to what he expected.

One amazing thing is Bell doesn't take big hits when he runs. Maybe 1 every 3-4 games. That's impressive for a Bell Cow back. LT was the same way in San Diego.
Another reason why I trust Bell to have the ball in his hands, is he went the entire year without fumbling. THE WHOLE ******* YEAR!! That's miles better than Dwyer, Redman, Dwyer and Mendy putting the ball on the ground 8 times vs the Browns in 2012.

Ball security is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING a running back can do. To have a RB that is as talented as Bell without being a liability for turning it over, is the reason why he merits nearly all the carries. I already cringe seeing Harris or Archer run the ball into a pile of Defenders...

What would we be preserving him for ? When each play any running back is in on can be a season or career ending one ? Running backs will get injured whether they carry 9 times or 20 times....Bell is a remarkable dynamic running back...hes elusive and agile....with a back like that you maximize that productivity. Hes the catalyst for our upswing and to shut down or limit a weapon of his caliber is not tactically smart.

I see your point but would also add this. The individuals can take a certain amount of hits over time. If the time is spread out more the body can recover somewhat and will go for a longer time period, and may actually be able to take more total hits than packing them into a shorter span. Think of it like this: if you had to carry 5000lbs and did so in 100 trips of 50 pounds at a time you would be fine but if some one placed 5000 pounds on you all at once you would be history.

In the case of Bell he is very good at not taking the big shots and going out of bounds or getting glancing blows much of the time. That will do wonders for his longevity, but cutting back on his carries a bit as well as his snaps would help stretch his career and he is good enough that I would want to avoid sending him to the scrap heap just for the sake of not putting in another to give him a brake here or there.

Show me one other back that played every meaningful down. Not bringing in a back that you would at least have had the faith to run a series or two was a mistake. If nothing else as insurance if he got hurt. If you guys don't want to acknowledge that fine. It was an error. They don't feel comfortable with Josh Harris or he would have played. At least some in meaningful situations.

So when exactly did Emmit smith or marshall faulk come out the game. Bell is our best back on all three downs. This is why Blount didnt play. Nothing to do with Harris or lack of trust in him. Bell is a three down back probably the best three down back since Faulk.

Bullshit Blount didn't play he played two series per game. He thought he was going to play 40%. He got pissed off and was a team cancer.

In fact look at the game logs. He played 4-10 carries per game with Pittsburgh. In New England minus the one game against SD where he got 20 carries he isn't even substantially getting more carries.

re-viewed the last raven game on NFL Network last night (highlights)

Bell was a factor
at the same time they passed a lot..........

Won't be a easy game to win, but winnable if Ben is on top of his game...............

I agree 100%, but football is a game of matchups. You can't say this guy got 67 yards, all we need to do is make up that 67 yards. You don't know what Baltimore did to limit him to his yards and what that opened them up to, in order to try and stop him. The Steelers need to play a great defensive game and make big plays in the passing game. They will miss Bell more in the passing game, as a threat and blocker, than a runner.

For me it is his pass catching ability. He was a great emergency option ........ Against a solid pass rush that will be missed. The O-line better come ready to give their A game.

Just saw LeVeon Bell coming out of the *******. He said if I don't stop following him around he's going to call the cops.
Don't know what that means but no discernible limp.

I'm not sure I want a limp report when he is exiting the bathroom.

After walking down the hallway with no discernible limp, Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell stood by his locker Wednesday and told NFL Network, "I feel great." But when asked if that meant he'd play Saturday against Baltimore, Bell replied: "I'm just going to take it day by day."

The Steelers are operating under the assumption Bell won't be available due to his hyperextended knee, though coach Mike Tomlin said the team will "leave the light on" for him. Bell reportedly could barely walk Monday, so he's showing progress.

Pittsburgh signed free agent running back Ben Tate on Tuesday, adding him to the backfield mix with Josh Harris and rookie Dri Archer.

The Steelers are 3-point home favorites Saturday night.

Kid is growing on me. Did the same thing in the game. If the Oline can give him a hole the Ravens may pay if they underestimate him.

Baltimore doesn't stack the line vs us like some teams have. they stop the run well from their base, so acting like they are going to bring safeties up or influence their game is kind of wishful thinking. Bells best runs this season vs them and heck even last year for the most part have been out of the no huddle, spread offense. His blocking and patterns will be missed, but there are ways you can adjust for that... the bottom line is that Baltimore has a glaring and obvious weakness in their secondary and that they still don't have a legit answer for brown, so they will roll the extra coverage his way. Harris doesn't protect the ball well, and archer is tiny... Im not real comfortable with either vs this defense because of turnovers... I am sort of glad Tate was signed just cause they cant play pure pass D and just swat at balls looking for turnovers like they do

That's great news pertaining to the Steelers' star walking back.

Seriously, Bell's NOT playing Saturday. People need to accept that.

He probably would not be ready against the Broncos, if they were to advance.

Hyper extensions almost always take a least three weeks to heal.
