Well Steeler Nation, it happened! Your 2021 Pittsburgh Steelers are heading into the NFL playoffs as the 7th seed in the AFC. There were many different outcomes that needed to come to fruition before this team could clinch a playoff spot; outcomes that were out of the Steelers’ control. The one thing they needed to take care of was to come out of a game against the Baltimore Ravens with a win, and that is exactly what they did.

What was out of their control were the outcomes of two AFC matchups. It just so happened that the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Las Vegas Raiders both defeated their respective opponents, giving the Steelers the 7th seed.

The Steelers’ upcoming opponent will be a tough one, as we will travel to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night at 8:15pm. This will be a rematch of a game that transpired just three weeks ago. A game in which the Steelers were embarrassed on both sides of the ball in a 36-10 blowout loss. In all fairness, the Steelers were missing two key players on the defensive side of the ball in starting linebackers Devin Bush and Joe Schobert and will now have them both activated for the playoff game on Sunday night. That will be a huge help in coverage against a tough Kansas City offense.

Offensively, this team has been off to a slow start since just about Week 1. Throughout this 17-game regular season, this offense has been outscored 189 – 114 in the first half alone and 66 – 37 in just the first quarter itself. Most of this team’s damage has been done in the second half of these contests where the Steelers have been in a “catch up” type of situation and have actually ended up making a decent amount of comebacks throughout.

The key to this Sunday’s playoff game is going to be getting off to that fast start that our offense has been struggling to find and not letting this Patrick Mahomes led offense get going with a lead that would be hard to come back from early on. This team is built to run through the defensive side of the football and that is exactly what they plan to do come Sunday. Since their previous matchup in Week 16, in just two games, the Steelers’ defense has forced four turnovers and has not allowed more than 200 yards through the air. Although it is just a small sample size, I believe this is a different team than what was showcased in Week 16 on both sides of the ball — an opinion that seems to be shared throughout the locker room, according to defensive captain, Cam Heyward.

“To see the difference in that locker room, ya know, you could hear a pin drop after that week, after that game [vs. Kansas City]. Guys are excited, guys have worked their tails off. It hasn’t been perfect but man we have grinded out these wins and man, we’re just hungry. Just give us a shot.”

There is no other motivation that needs to be said other than, this is now a win or go home situation for both teams when on the field. This team is going to have to come out firing off the ball and attempt to score points quickly to be able to keep up with a very quick offensive group on the opposite side of the football. This could potentially be future Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger‘s final game as a Steeler or it could be the start of a potential Super Bowl run. How great would it be if this team were able to send Roethlisberger off with a Lombardi Trophy?

Do you think this offense can keep up with Kansas City? Or will it be a similar outcome like in Week 16? Comment Below!

Well considering they have wins against the Bills and the Titans. It is possible. It is a tall task. You just have to get Coach Klein's green notebook back.
