Can a defensive player win the Heisman Again? Coolie Pimps Ed Oliver

mocks are worthless this early. Don't even have the correct heights and weights on guys, nevermind their 40 times and other tests.

Height and Weight will not affect Oliver's draft stock. Everybody knows he's an undersized player. His stock will depend on his quickness and agility tests. Whichever team drafts him will be looking for an Aaron Donald or Geno Atkins type disrupter, not some run stuffing NT.

Oliver has to either be a gap shooter in a 4-3 or I think he could possibly end up as a 3-4 OLB.

People will compare him to Donald based on size but that's where that ends. I think the guy teams should compare him to is Tamba Hali. Hali played DT at Penn State. He was undersized but they needed him there and he was disruptive. The Chiefs transitioned him to 3-4 OLB because of his athletic ability and relentless motor. It too a few seasons but once he learned the position, he was one of the best pass rusher in the NFL.

If Oliver runs 4.6 or better and has good shuttle times and vertical, he will be a high pick.

Oliver's a little short for a storm trooper and is anything but an edge rusher. Tape, he'd bomb at OLB in a 3-4.

Hali was a pass rusher in college. Didn't he have 11 sacks one year? That's double Oliver's best season

Hali also is 6'3" tall. Oliver won't measure up.

Big 10 >>> AAC

The best thing to compare might be where they were picked. 20th overall.. and Heck No I do not want Oliver at our pick.

You could say I used to work hard in spurts. Now I have to develop and coach up a bunch of millennials.

Since Ike is going to miss me I might post in the early AM or at lunch, just so he gets the news :)

Coach, you are the “AB antics” of the board. You won’t be missed. Just as your high and mighty perception of yourself won’t be either.

Wait....actually, there will be some loss of humor on this site on your behalf when you leave. So there is something......

coach will ***** he didn't get to the QB...but watch his change of direction for a DL...

the guy who did get the sack on that play #8 Emeke Egbule is a guy I'd like the Steelers to look at in mid to late rounds....good sized LB, he will be at the combine so we shall see how he measures up...

It wasn't just his lack of pass rush ability Coolie. The guy is small and light gets pushed around too easily, and won't be able to anchor well.

Oliver played weak competition, which makes you wonder how he would have looked in the SEC or Big Ten as the players are better, and how he will fare in the NFL.

Yes, he's got sweet feet. As I said before anyone on the web he could play ILB.

blah blah blah....if he played in a Power 5 conference he wouldn't have been stuck at NT, he would have played at DT or DE and been very effective with the other 5 star recruits on the DL with him. He is just too quick and makes first contact and uses leverage to control the OL or he just flat goes past them like he did in that video.

Yeah, he says first on the web. I contemplate where he actually read it from.

You have to understand coach speak. when he says he was the first to say it on the web.

He means he was the first to say it on the web, after reading it on the web.

Guy is the only guy in the history of the web that watches 1% of film, that proclaims his drafnick brilliance.

And then tries to drill it home 50 plus times after throwing out whatever bullshit opinion he comes up with..

Prove it. Give us the link you stating this.

Search the thread. You’ll see. I said it during an evaluation of one of the games I saw via web link.

One thing interesting to me is if your man enough to give credit. I’ll say you can’t.

When little Ed measures short and under 285 pounds his “ media “ draft stock will drop.

Another a coach original is I think his arms are on the shorter side too. Have not seen that mentioned on the web either

Also I’d be shocked if Oliver can come close to the bench amount Donald did. He’s not that strong.

As much as I would like, I don't see the STEELERS ever picking him unless he dropped to 3rd round and that is still a pipe dream ( both STEELERS taking him and him dropping to 3rd round).

I don't think he gets out of the top ten.

I think there is a bet of some kind, about just that, here on this message board....................................................

Really? who would be dumb enough to make a bet on the draft?

I can't recall their names but from my perspective........................... well lets just say you're all invited to a Bacon party,.........just look for the Beacon as it marks the spot.

bacon is great...but I sleep a bit better with a little sausage in me.....

I can't see Oliver falling to 20. He is just too good of a player. If he comes in and crushes the combine, he will go top ten.

Again...you made the statement. You prove it. So find your post, if it’s even there.

In any case, as usual your typical BS continues since Daniel Jeremiah actually states in June 2018 that Oliver projects as another Aaron Donald and both had LB (ILB & OLB) ability.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...liver-houston-dt-has-aaron-donaldlike-promise

“He reminds me of: I hate comparing college players to elite NFL players, but sometimes it just makes sense to do so. Oliver is very similar to Aaron Donald when he was coming out of Pittsburgh. Both guys use a lack of ideal size to their advantage by consistently winning with quickness. There were some questions about which position Donald would play at the next level. Some thought he would end up as a 3-4 outside linebacker, while some other teams actually believed he might be best suited as an off-the-ball inside linebacker. Of course, the Rams were wise to let him continue to play with his hand on the ground. I see the same future for Oliver. He is going to be a very disruptive force at the next level.”

Oliver plays in plenty of four man lines on passing downs, and gets lots of chances as Houston is often blowing out bad college football teams.

Let's talk about his 3 sacks for the year. Vs WHO? Bad teams that's who.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...igan-top-four-ohio-state-stumbles/1723559002/

East Carolina ( 2-5 ), ranked 117th out of 130.

Navy ( 2-5 ) ranked 95th out of 139 ( He didn't solo this sack, the QB moved forward from pressure to behind ). The Navy center was 280 pounds.

^^^ Not my data, just using a 3rd party to illustrate my points.

I think your confused. I think Oliver is a great college football player with a lot of hype attached to him. He's very good at slipping blocks, and could play ILB if you want my opinion. In the NFL vs. much bigger & better center's and guards he's undersized, and won't be nearly as productive.

The Outland trophy is a college award that does not mean a lot for professional prospects. We had one a while back. Remember Kirs Farris :) He was terrible.

Maybe 1 out of 3 outland Trophy winners have good NFL careers

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outland_Trophy

I'm looking at his game as an NFL player. I hope he's a go for the USF game. I saw Oliver guilty of encroachment, it wasn't called in the clips vs Navy. IMO Navy is a simple offense to defend that hits few big plays. Those men are there to serve in the military first, play football second.

Hello Ike Taylor. As you can see in post 240 in October 2018 I mentioned Oliver could play ILB. I’m pretty sure I mentioned it even sooner here.

Now show me who said this on the web before me?

I know what I said. I find you weak, saying prove it when time has passed. If this board had archive for years you see I wanted to trade up for Ed Reed and earl Thomas . I was heavily panned suggesting the Steelers trade up their 1st, 2nd and 3rd for a guy named JJ Watt. Of course I knew Kordell Stewart was a dud.

My drafts are usually better than the Steelers too.
