Canada Will Return in 2023

I'll tell you what the difference was. He had grizzled veteran leftovers from Cowher’s coaching staff and Tomlin had a fresh message. I think Tomlin could be exactly where he was. But he would have to let it be their way. I watched D. Lebeau's speech at Troy's induction. I know he isn't coming back but he was still good. You give a guy like that Watt,Highsmith and full control. The defense would dictate the game.

Wow...finally some logic instead of emotional outrage. Thank you for this perspective, Mad.

I'd like to add that when you have a rookie QB and use the running game more than the passing game, the scoring is less. Running the ball eats clock.
Right. I mentioned something about his triple read jet sweep actually being a good play and I got my head bit off. Maybe he has been working along slowly with the offense bringing them along slowly. Because the jet sweep worked and then it was predictable and didn’t. Now it can be a double jet where you fake it one way and it ends up going the other direction. You can use the motion and run it with the back. You can fake the run and then run to the back and instead run the jet sweep. You can fake a sweep then use them as a lead blocker for the back. When ran properly it actually works.

Haha...sometimes true, but none the less, would you count them as your catches?

Sometimes though its how you read the water and handle the situations that makes the difference between catching or not. Probably makes a difference also in an 8-8 team that 2 years later is a Super Bowl champ.

The point is it was Tomlin that hit the right buttons that year to make them champs. He deserves the credit. Now, does that mean he should have a lifetime job? Absolutely not.
Technically you caught the fish with my bait.
So it’s not so different.
Tomlin was handed a very good team and all he had to do was not F it up, which to his credit he didn’t.
But the farther we get from those days the more it looks like he can’t build a championship team on his own.
Doesn’t mean I think Cowher was great, or even better. The team’s worst OC’s ever were Sherman and Gilbride. Those two make Canaduh look like a damn genius but Cowher at least had the sense to fire them and not wait for their contracts to run out.

hope they take the training wheels off the Offense. And that starts with the man that apparently does live in his fears, Mr. Mike Tomlin.

But Ron, look, I wanted Canada fired. But this complaint the antiquated offense. I think they had to try to do something well. I get this multi-dimensional stuff, and thats the way to win the big games, but this team did nothing well offensively. At least now they can run the ball more competently. Hopefully they can build in that. If you don't do anything well, you just suck multi-dimensionally.
if we do become a dominant running O, like the Titans of a couple of years back, but with a good core of receiving weapons in Freiermuth and Pickens, heck even Najee is a menace as a receiver and with a QB that has the mobility and capacity to pass from the pocket or on the run then maybe we have a chance while being a run oriented team. Play action is a must for this to work, get some deep shots with opposing Ds expecting a wrecking ball run and we might get that score up to 27 PPG

I got $100 that says they never get to another SB with Shades as head coach.

Say it aint so!
I moved to Cleveland during their heyday in the late 80's. Steelers were mediocre. Made a bold prediction by telling Stain fans that the Steelers will make it to a 5th Super Bowl before your Stains see their first. (To be honest I really didn't believe it myself at the time, I was talking **** lol)

They laughed at me. Bwahahaha.
Turns out I ended up being right.

Over the last couple years the Steelers seemed to be trending downwards, while the "experts" had the Browns as being the favorites in the division and a force to be reckoned with.
I'm once again telling Stain fans that the Steelers will make their 9th SB appearance before the Stains see their first.

We're not perfect by any means but just when they get good the Stains do dumb things like ****canning the QB who won their last playoff game since God was a boy (and hung 48 on us) in favor of a sex offender who missed half the season.

Yeah they are a whole other level of stupid and to anyone who ever says.....these people are the professionals.... have a look at that steaming pile of dung. I certainly wouldn't be able to guide a team to anywhere big but there is no way I'm doing that.

I'll take those $100 bets. I've got 20 years to see if it happens again!

Tomlin did rebuild teams and defenses from 14-17 and made to the AFCC. Now we're rebuilding the O and our D is set. If KP makes a jump, this team can push in the playoffs and be a threat.

Also about Marty, he will be a HOFer one day. He brought a lot to the game of football and Martyball was the way to control the clock and win the game strategically. It's why Cowher had an insane record in closing out games with 11 point leads. Martyball.

Now we were complaining about Cowher, and Philly was riding Reid because they couldn't win the big game, just like Marty. The reason why they all lost in the playoffs? They did the exact same thing they did in the regular season, and playoff teams with better defenses and all the plays to study, to game plan against them.

Cowher and Reid started winning SBs when they could change up what they could do offensively and played differently than they played during the regular season. Got a young QB that mostly hands off? Pass attack, BAM! Broncos busted. Doing that same counter rush? BAM! Reverse X pass, TD!

Marty never changed in the playoffs. Reid and Cowher eventually did, but it took them a decade to do so.

Exactly. MartyBall doesn’t win in the playoffs because it doesn’t usually score enough points. That said, our last three playoff games, all losses, we scored a lot of points but thanks to turnovers and a lousy defense our opponents scored more.

I guess we could say that the Steelers will appear in another SB before the Browns go to their first, regardless of how long it takes or who the Steeler coach is!

Great, so we’re back to Cowher’s days of MartyBall. How many SB’s did Marty Schottenheimer win? There’s a reason why he’s the only eligible HC with over 200 wins who is not in the HOF.
Personally---I like that style of offense...combined with a opportunistic and physical defense.

Love it Stewey....

I moved to Browns "country" in 1986...and I used to say that same shiit!

I look at it like this. I'd say its 80/20 Canada will be gone after next season. So next season is just a delay in finding a guy who could take the offense where you want it to go. I'd put the odds lower that Tomlin will win another SB here. So you are in essence wasting time as he will be inevitably be replaced by someone who could produce one.

Ahhhhh, another year of mediocrity.

I wouldn't go that far but if you were laying down odds of this team winning the SB next year. 1 being the lowest odds and 32 being the highest (least likely) with Matt Canada as OC, where do you put this team??
Just above Cleveland

I'd say right where they are. 20. King of the dipshits. Hard to cone up with many non division winning playoff teams the Steelers were better than.
Hell we had to scrap and fight to beat the Juggernauts of the Colts, Falcons, Panthers, and Raiders.

It’s the 50 bets to watch out for

32 but you could rank about 12 teams there.
