Cannot deny the negative impact Ben Roethlisberger had on team chemistry in 2018

to me, Ben is on a team. He is the team leader by being there for a loooong time. he may not speak as a leader, but, if not, he should at least lead by example. Taking vaca and missing team activities is not leading by example. So maybe he speaks as a leader and guides the team. I don't know and nether do others on this site. But, I do know I would like a smarter coach, and for Ben and the other players to give a **** about the team, instead of themselves as individuals.

I’m not deflecting anything. Just trying to have a conversation about a particular topic. If you don’t then fine. It’s your opinion. You also don’t have to open the thread and go back and forth about a particular topic you don’t agree with. I do believe after this season and how it ended Tomlin should have been let go. I don’t think it fixes everything as everyone would want on this board but if they did then Ben is having to work with a new coach and new system potentially and nobody knows how that would go. Like it or not Tomlin is tied to Ben at this point. So we can either sit around and complain about it or move on.

As I stated earlier, it's hard to have a conversation when the target keeps changing. You start a thread stating this isn't to bash Ben and then post an article and comments doing exactly that. You state Ben is responsible for 2018 and then 2 comments later, you change to he should share some of the blame. Fact is the team has not had a losing season since Ben has been QB. Early in his career he had a solid defense to back him up when he had a bad game. He hasn't had that luxury in almost a decade. He's at the top of league in 4th quarter comebacks because the defense can't make stops when necessary. This team has been successful because of Ben and many times in spite of the coaching. He's been carrying this team on his back for years, so I tend to cut him a little slack. I have yet to call for Coach T's head, however if Butler is still employed next year and things remain the same, I'll be first in line. As for leadership, if my Marines didn't complete their mission the CO wouldn't blame them; that was my responsibility. Just like the product on the field and keeping the clowns from running the circus is the head coach's responsibility.

One time I'm gonna say this. If Big Ben is kind of a dick behind the scenes who gives a ****. These are grown men paid multi million dollars to play football. Anyone here love everyone they work with? He balls out and says everything right to the media. What do you want.

Bingo. And the key here is that he balls out. Yes, he has the occasional boneheaded INT, but we're going to be sad when this guy goes, I can tell you that.

Who let Pop out of the basement again?

Anyone who wants to blame the 2018 debacle on Ben is just trying to stir up ****. It would be comparable to pinning the blame of a fatal DUI crash on the car.

Let me say it one more time for the people in the back. I’m not suggesting this season is Ben’s fault. All I’m suggesting is he should take some responsibility as he is the team captain and leader of the team. He probably could have handle certain situations better. Especially since he comes across more mature than Brown. I will also flip the script on people who criticize people as Tomlin apologist. Maybe you just may be Roethlisberger apologist. He does no wrong.

Ben takes responsibility for losses and screw ups more than any other QB right now... he consistently does so in pressers and on his radio show...

First off all you twats have it wrong. How many pages? It’s arks fault first. Second and more importantly, ******* Boz. Damn prick make a extra point we have a couple more weeks of less bitching

The target hasn’t changed from the moment I started the conversation with the article. Go back and read my comments. My intentions wasn’t to bash Ben and I stated that. Hell we are not even relavent without him. We have seen what this team looks like with other QB’s. All I was stating from the very beginning and keep saying it is he deserves to take some responsibility. I agree it’s ultimately Tomlins fault and honestly as I stated earlier need to be let go. Ben is not the scapegoat and I’m not deflecting blame from Tomlin. But I guess people can believe whatever they want.

I can deny “negative impact” considering he wasn’t winning popularity contests yet still was at helm of 3 Super Bowl runs in 6 years... and it didn’t ruin those teams

I don't care what kind of leader Ben is. He isn't the one who's been acting like a clown since last year.

AB is the one who skipped meetings and practices, he's the one who threw furniture off a balcony, he's the one who was speeding 100 mph, he's the one who threw a fit on the field/sideline when he didn't get the ball showing up his QB in front of everyone, he's the one who got into social media conflicts with members of the media. Brown has been in the news way too much this year for the wrong reasons and there are zero people at fault for his behavior. Brown is gonna be 31 and needs to be held accountable for his actions.
BINGO!!!!!! Nailed it! In fact you forgot that other AB nugget last year in the locker room when Big Ben is trying to rally the troops in the confines of the locker room before the Jags game and Mister AB is live streaming and undermining his own QB.

Stupid article. These are grown men. He’s the only sure fire HOF player on the team, so I think he can call out people who need it. Was he wrong about the criticisms? So if he says “we all need to play better” instead of “James has to make that catch” he’d be a better leader.??? Bullshit. Both statement mean the same damn thing. If his remarks hurt feelings, then we have a bunch of babies on the team. He calls himself out ALL THE TIME.

I agree that Ben should be there at team activities just like everyone else. But the rest of the article seems nitpicking.

Get what you can for the man-child and see if there is an extra pick for cool-shades or if not, then just throw him in the deal......sort of like a bonus..............OOOOOooooopppppppppssss

That would just be two LESS that BEN should could and would call out.

Salute the nation

And re: the Ben calling out Washington thing, firstly, it worked, and secondly, Ben came back and said he wanted the rookie to get more outta himself that Ben said he knew he had in him. Nothing burger.

Washington didn't look good this year, but the last two games gave me hope for next year.

So.....has Ben DENIED responsibility for this season? No?
What exactly do you want him to do? Hold a presser to say he takes responsibility? He held himself accountable after every loss this season, in front of the media.
Does he now need to say it again, but for the season as a whole?
And exactly what is the chemistry problem you speak of? We had 2 divas go off the rails this season, neither of which had dick to do with Ben.
I've seen him speak to the team before and after games, that's what leaders do.

Bravo, sir. And thank you for your service (you too Slasher).

Don’t get it twisted. I’m a Ben fan. I just think he should be held to a higher standard when it comes to being a leader on and off the field. Yes everyone is paid to do a job but their is a reason they vote on team captains because leadership is important.

Ben tells AB to stop FB living while coach is talking after a playoff victory. AB has numerous players huddle around him. AB ignores him. Just like he ignores everything the HC says to him. The problem is Tomlin has let his star players get away with stuff over and over again. Now other players that look up to AB see him ignoring Ben. Now this is only ONE epidsode that we know of. This is how a culture is created. A bad on at that. Tell me who is to blame? AB? Tomlin? Ben?

I guess I'm confused at your saying Ben needs to take some responsibility for AB et al. As far as I can tell the ONLY thing Roethlisberger said ALL year in regards to AB was "he's supposed to run that route a little shallower" (immediately AFTER that he said "but I made a terrible throw, I never should have thrown that."
And then apparently he lost his patience in a practice when Brown, (the most experienced receiver on the team) ran the wrong route. As I understand it Ben said "Let's run that again and AB said "no ******' way." That's when Ben yelled "Get him outta here, get me another receiver."

Coincidentally, that receiver was Juju. Coincidentally, that was the same day the MVP vote was announced.

It isn't complicated.

And if you wanna get REALLY down in the nitty gritty, it SEEMS that AB skipped the next 2 practices, including the final walkthrough AND the team meeting before the game.
And if you believe the reports Tomlin STILL had AB's pads and Jersey sitting out on game day.

I wonder if he (Tomlin) didn't get a ration of **** from players and/or management and he was FORCED to bench AB.
And then, in order to seem like an ACTUAL coach, Tomlin threw AB who had no idea he was going to get in trouble for his antics, under a Tomlin incompetency sized bus.

How's THAT for a supposition on how this whole ****** up ****-show went down.

This is the stupidest **** I have read on Steeler Nation in a long time.

you're a dumbass.

This is exactly why this will be my last post here. No longer can people have just a friendly debate between people who “supposedly “ cheer for the same team. You don’t know me and I don’t know you. It’s easy to hide behind a computer and call people dumbasses or etc. Just because someone has an opinion different than you. Whether I’m right or completely wrong who cares. Hope you have a great day.
