Claypool to Chicago for 2nd Rounder

Any word on whether it is what will be the higher or lower of the Bears 2nd round picks?

If it’s the lower and the season ended today, the Steelers would have 3 picks in the top 45.
We're talking Tomlin...his eyes lit up when he thought about getting TWO undersized kick returners/running backs in the Dri Archer mold that will be out of the league in a year............Got to take advantage of those picks you know....Genius I tell you.

Oh they will do something dumb like use their first on Addison so they can have the same dynamic as cinci did when they brought in chase… even though Addison is just a better version of DJ… or they will draft another rb or something… with like three super valuable OTs on the board and teams begging to trade into our spot…

I'd lose my marbles if they did that .

By no means should the Steelers have Dan Moore starting at left tackle next season. They also need an interior guy who can just move people.
I am sure they can at least upgrade Dot or Moore in free agency. The other in the draft. My high want is a DE in 1 but a LT I would be ok with. Probably bring the Steelers the best value VS need.

The way they have evaluated OL over the last few years, they better get LT and LG in both the draft AND FA. Maybe then they can find someone a little more than halfway decent.
The sad part of this statement is that I'm not kidding.

I would use every draft pick on the OL

There was also rumblings that Green Bay jumped into the mix causing the Bears to up their anti from Baltimore's pick they acquired to their original 2nd rounder. Green Bay BTW has the same record as the Bears but it was felt the they would finish with a worse record.

I wouldnt be surprised if Heyward retired after this year. Talentwise I think the Steelers can fix most issues in a year, but the main issue is not talent it is coaching. If the locker room is as dysfunctional as it appears Heyward will want out. I personally do not like the trade, Claypool was starting to come on a bit and DJ seemed to be making headlines for the wrong reason. Pickens gets down and disinterested when things dont go his way so it will be interesting to see how that plays out. Claypool was at least showing some heart / life. Regardless we definitely need to rebuild the trenches so I hope it works out in the end

Meh like I said this was stupid.. they undersold on him… the Steelers front office continues to make utterly illogical moves… once it was tge best front office in the sport… the last decade it’s been one of the absolute worst…. The only way this makes sense is if he was a locker room distraction and if thats tge case for the umpteeth wr in a row, then Tomlin best be out the door next
Haven't been the biggest fan of the front office myself lately, but calling this a "stupid" and "utterly illogical move" is a bit extreme, don't you think?

They didn't undersell Claypool; an early second round pick next year is good value for a guy who has been inconsistent (at best) the last two seasons. We all know that the Steelers have over-invested at the WR position in recent drafts -- this is the perfect way to make amends and use an extra day two choice on a quality offensive or defensive lineman. Or linebacker. They need help just about everywhere.

Looking at wr trades, barring him commiting an off field faux pas, nothing he would do could lower his value

He was a 6’4 guy who ran 4.4… he could not catch a pass all year and be worth a second to a speed and size ***** coach… hell this is just a tad over what the giants bust first rounder got
Claypool ran a 4.42 at the combine in shorts, but to me he never seemed anywhere near that fast on the field. Maybe the Bears' coaching staff can teach him how to high-point the football...the Steelers sure couldn't.

OL and DL.
Pickens made Claypool irrelevant.

Just something to keep an eye on, if Claypool suddenly becomes good then our coaching is terrible. JuJu-esq

Salute the nation

I know his speed was a talking point after the draft because his game speed didn't match his timed speed.

Anyone hear the rumors of Claypool causing problems in the locker room??? Claypool had not improved from first year; he would be a pain I think redoing contract next year, so Steelers did the right thing.

Still trying to wrap my head around Claypools performance after his fantastic rookie season...The kid had 10 touchdowns as a rookie!! This team will be lucky to get 10 touchdowns all season!
This guy looked like a future possible Pro-Bowler and 2nd contract type of guy, after his first year as a pro..

WTF Happened?

Its typical character assassination to make the trade more palatable… the Pittsburgh media loves doing this…
They cut bait because he wasn’t improving on his own and the staff is not built to develop guys…

That is one scenerio. The other is he was running his **** sucker. Both are on the table.

and DL....
Peeps want to forget the DL but they could still be more run D stingy. Cut off the run, get a good pass rush going, you have a half a chance to be competitive. The other part would be shipping some coaches off to parts unknown. But offseason we are probably just minus Canada.

I think this was a good trade for Pittsburgh for many reasons:

1) Claypool never played as large as his physical stats indicate he should have. He was poor at high-pointing a ball thus negating his height. He didn't do a great job at fighting for and catching contested balls, thus negating his overall size. He didn't materialize to consistently catch anything deep thus negating his speed.

2) Claypool seemed to think he was far greater than his on-field performance showed and would have been trouble trying to re-sign him next year.

3) Claypool seemed immature, selfish about attention and reminded me a little too much of the AB-type personality who only got worse with his demands over time.

Unless you think the Steelers were going to sign Claypool long-term to a big money deal (which I do not) then we were going to lose him to free agency or a trade. Better to get something back of value than watch him walk in free agency. I'm actually surprised they got a 2nd round pick which may end up being an early second so a no-brainer deal to me.

Even with Claypool, this team is going nowhere this year, and next year we likely are forced to trade him for a lesser return as he approaches free agency. Take the pick, build up this team that needs a lot of help.

is it a coincidence that his drop off production, alongside everyone else's coincided with the vet OL leaving and no top talent brought to reload? of course not. Add Canada +Tomlin to the equation

His second year production was actually pretty similar to his first year with the exception of TDs, but he had one monster 4TD game as a rookie. I think he’s always been kinda inconsistent and then combine that with this year’s dysfunctional offense and you get everyone’s productivity dropping off.

It’s hard to say how they’ve evaluated OL since they have been drafting them late. Green was a miss because he can’t play. I wouldn’t call Moore a miss. He’s a weak starter but he’d be a good backup. For a 4th rounder, that’s not bad.

Maybe part of why they’ve drafted OL late is that they are missing on guys who go high. Maybe they didn’t draft Creed Humphrey because they didn’t like him.

We should find out this year because I can’t see any way that at least 1 of their first 3 picks isn’t OL. Draft OT with your first pick and yiu should be able to get a franchise LT. Then grab and interior OL with one of the next 2 picks and the OL should be fixed.

I think Moore would be a fine guard … he isn’t bad in all aspects.. mostly he struggles with edge speed… and he could improve there… …I’ve always felt that Tomlin’s lines have miscast guys… not all of them, but enough… since Cowher left it always seems a guy who looks like a guard candidate is playing tackle and a guy who seems to be more of a tackle is at guard…
