College Football Playoff Thread

I have been a Franklin apologist since the boo birds started. Not anymore. They had the easiest path to the Championship game and had to beat a đź’© Notre Dame team. Notre Dame IS NOT A TOP 10 TEAM. Texas will monkey stomp them and Ohio State will beat them so bad that the crowd will start chanting mercy like Notre Dame is William Wallace. Who knows maybe then the brass in the athletic department will see how awful Franklin is
Not top ten?!? Sh@t team?!?
Then how do you explain playing in the national championship game in a true playoff system?
This isn’t like they received the most AP votes to get them in this position..like the way the unfair system used to be setup..
I mean they just won three games against top 12 opponents!
Sometimes you have to put disappointment of losing aside and give credit to the victor!
Go Irish!

This is a very poor take. Not top 10??

I want to see Jerimiayah Love in a Steelers uniform.
He is special.
He seems to have injury concerns now, but his athleticism is unreal ridiculous.
That TD run last night was AWESOME.......and he has several plays this year just like it.

They also had the easiest path to the championship game. They aren’t a top ten team. Georgia was by far the best team in the bracket but their quarterback got hurt. Just dumb luck for everyone on that side.

Those potato eating stupid mick’s are going to get beat so bad that their children are gonna pop out concussed.

Hard to say how good notre dame really is. You could argue IU wasn't a top team and Georgia was missing their QB. The PSU win was good, but PSU played an over ranked Boise team and SMU (who had horrendous QB play). PSU lost their other games against upper comp. Regardless ND is 14-1 so far which is a great season. I think their D is legit, but not sure about the offense. I think they would match up better vs Texas than OSU, but we will see how it plays out. If OSU plays like they did against Oregon no one will beat them.

Thing is, it ultimately didn't matter. They ended up beating Oregon in a rematch anyway, and if they win tonight, they are in the exact position many had them in at the beginning of the season. Playing for the championship.
Holding the Michigan game against them at this point is like holding the NIU game against Notre Dame. It's irrelevant. The only game that matters is the next one they play.
I'm not holding it over them but making it sound like it's an inevitable beat down is ridiculous. Notre Dame got caught pants down by a no name opponent. Ohio State lost to it's most bitter rival in a game that cost them a Title game. They are beatable.

Of course they are beatable. Any team is beatable. In fact, the whole "What are ND's chances against tOSU" discussion is pointless pending the results of tonight's game.
If, tOSU wins tonight, as a fan, I like their chances in the title game.

Jitter..I believe I know who they are in very simplistic but accurate terms..
Notre Dame is a top 4 football program that is extremely capable of beating anyone in the nation this season.
One more contest to be played to prove my assessment .. and you can’t ask for anything more.
Go Irish!

Notre Dame is not a top-ten team, c'mon. Texas and Ohio State are huge hurdles to overcome, but the Irish have the talent and grit to do the job. They match up better with Texas than the Buckeyes. Ohio State has the wild card factor in Smith. I have been watching college football for a long time and have never seen a talent like this at any position. As a freshman, he has that T.J. Watt factor: GAMEWRECKER. He is 18 years old. He could play in the NFL now if he were eligible. Egbuke, Tate, Henderson, and Jundkin are NFL talents. I am hoping that ND can exploit OSU's O-Line without Mclaughlin, Simmons, and Jackson playing at Tackle instead of Guard. I would feel a lot better if Riley Mills and Benjamin Morrison weren't hurt but this late in the season injuries are inevitable. If they can pressure Will Howard, then they might be able to force a few picks. It will be a tall task either way. Let's go Notre Dame!!!

And if I can add to why ND might be able to slow down the Buckeyes passing game…

Is that I believe, talent and performance wise, they have a top 3 caliper defensive backfield

I would love to see that matchup materialize!

But Buckeye better not be looking past the Longhorn one iota!!

I think they are top two. One remains to be seen. They took big hits at oline last night but they have a very good D and make plays in the clutch on O. They have a good chance against either team.

Very disappointed with Drew Allar last night. Was hoping he would have a breakout performance, but there has always been something about him that hasn't felt quite right. He certainly hasn't lived up to the 5-star, #1 quarterback recruit billing. And it's too bad, because Penn State wins that game rather easily with good (or even decent) quarterback play.

I genuinely have no idea why a top QB prospect would ever go to Penn State. They never seem to have the offense to set them up for success as a potential top pick.

LMAO. I could have written the comments before the game was played.
I'm still not much of a Leonard fan, but I'm extremely impressed they've gotten this far with him under center. Hopefully Angeli finally gets his shot next year.

I thought Penn State should have thrown to the backs more. They were killing with that. I'm glad Dame won. The PI on the tight end on the int by the Linebacker was beyond brutal. I had no problem with the first int in the endzone but that ball was terribly under thrown. He more brushed him then impeded and he didn't have a snowballs chance to make a play on that ball. None.

They tried throwing to the backs. The one at the goal line to Singleton was free money and Allar threw it knee high and behind him.

Allar also had Singleton 25 yards downfield with 5 yards on the linebacker and overthrew him by 10 yards. If Allar puts it on him it’s 6. Can’t miss those types of plays against good teams because you don’t get many opportunities against good teams.

Give credit to Notre Dame. They made great adjustments at halftime. Hell, thinking about it, I’m surprised Penn State kept it competitive considering their passing game was mostly a non-factor. Gotta get some quality WR’s into Happy Valley or they can expect more of the same or maybe worse.

I said a few times that Penn State and the Steelers seasons will end when their WRs suck so bad that they can’t overcome it. One down, one to go.

Hate to see a season end on a bad loss like that but much like the Steelers, I did not see Penn State being able to win it all. Ohio State is rolling. Unless they lay and egg vs Texas, they will blow out Notre Dame.

This loss is not on Franklin or the coaches. Penn State coached a good game on both sides of the ball. The offensive plan was excellent.

They key play of the game had 2 DBs fall down to allow a long TD pass. That’s not coaching, that’s just horrible luck.

It comes down to the WRs most of all. ZERO catches. Only a few targets and on each of those targets they were blanketed. Decent WRs may have caught a few of this contested catches but not Penn State’s crew.

Allar had an awful game. He had no confidence at all and was short arming throws. I think that was mostly due to him dropping back and seeing nobody open. He had a strong season overall and still does not have a ton of starts under his belt. He was smart to stay another year.

The OL was amazing. They dominated ND’s front 7.

Abdul Carter should be #1 overall pick in the draft. Period. He had a dominant game with 1 arm. Travis Hunter is good but you can throw away from a CB. Carter will be a game wrecker who can play any scheme. He can even drop in coverage or play inside LB.

Penn State does have some good young WRs on the depth chart that need to develop. Franklin fired the WR coach a few years ago because he wasn’t recruiting well enough. That’s what we see this year. Those lost years of WR recruiting. None of the upper class men are good enough. They added 2 WR in the portal for next year and hopefully a young guy develops.

Hard loss to take. But as I said, I figured they had little chance to beat Ohio State anyway so my expectations were already tempered.

This is an excellent review of the game by Landon Tengwar, former Penn State OL who had to medically retire. Even if you don’t want the full breakdown, at least jump to the 18:10 mark for his story of freshman Abdul Carter in practice.

I just want a good game.

wow. That return was almost the play of the game.
