Salute the nation

Brian Branch posted some real pedestrian numbers. He’ll fall down some board big time. I still think he’s a stud. If we pair him with Fitzpatrick we’d have the best safety tandem in the NFL.

Yes I was a little surprised at his numbers. I thought he was the most dominant big play guy the last 4-5 games when playing against top competition in college ball. When it really mattered. We’ll see where he lands. If the top 3 tackles are gone,it would be tough to pass on him if still there.

Interesting post on twitter here about WR's and blazing 40 times:

Huh. 29 WR's ran below 4.33 and one so far had a 1,000-yard season.

Great find Steel. Talk about an underwhelming list. Definitely surprised me.

I'm not a huge Joey Jr. Supporter at 17 but 4.46 is not slow for a cb especially when you're 6 2 with 34 inch arms. If he tracks the ball well the QB really has to throw a dart to avoid getting it knocked away. Didn't see much of him in college but that kind of length can make up a bit of separation.

4.46 is a great time for a big CB with 34 inch arms. Porter won't be a lockdown on small quick WRs but he can play press and be physical and match with big WRs and TEs. The other big thing is that PSU was very aggressive on defense, putting their CBs on islands a lot of the time. That means JP has a lot of experience making plays on the ball. Penn State led the nation in passes defensed because of that style.

Lots of top DBs didn't really get challenged much in college. Offenses throw to the other side or they get lots of help from safeties and pass rush. Porter was challenged a lot.

With his size he could be a good chess piece.

Meh his numbers aren't deal breakers. They are very similar to Joe Haden's combine and he was strictly a corner. Branch I have more of a box safety which you can also sub in like Maulet in addition to. Nice to see blazers but those blazers have to be instinctual football players too.

A 4.5 SS can play like he is a 4.3 SS if he can read and react quickly. His 10 suggests he physically can, his tape supports he mentally can.

Hey, if Dalton Kincaid is available later rounds (probably not, he is too enticing) and Steelers go with Berm's recommendation regarding CPIII, and Steelers get both, I see this happening:

We replace yutes with yinz in Pittsburgh ,😁

He just doesn’t seem like the kind of corner Tomlin likes… Cowher would have absolutely loved him though… i think we aren’t going to draft a corner as high as some here think though… but we will see… i think the first three rounds we focus on OL, DT, WR, and ILB with an outside chance of an Edge rusher mixed in if we don’t get dupree back ( and i don’t think we will)

I feel that they like their secondary more than we do…

ILB Overshown with only 15 bench press reps, that's a no-no for me.
Why put so much stock on the bench press? There is so much more to strength than how much you can bench. In football you are generating power / strength from all parts of your body. Also if you bulk up more to lift more you normally lose some flexibility and movement. Its just like in boxing / UFC the hardest punchers are not normally the ones who look like power lifters.

If Sutton is re-signed and they don't cut anyone, there shouldn't be a need to go CB on Day 1 or 2 unless someone spectacular falls.

It's just hard to ignore the Steelers like Pittsburgh connections and Porter will be under strong consideration. Banks feels like a guy Tomlin would really like as well, even at 1.17.

The first pick is hard to judge because a lot of the top prospects are going to be gone, leaving the Steelers with the 3rd or 4th best player at a position (ex. tackle, cornerback, or defensive line) or the top player at a different position (wide receiver, inside linebacker).

Because the guy was a safety and I don't know if he can manage the physicality of the LB spot

4.55 first attempt for Addison. Slower than expected. At 173 lbs, he needed to be faster.

Bryce Wheaton-Ford, 6'4 221 lbs, 33in arms, ran a 4.38, 41in vert, 10'9 broad. Man I didn't expect that, need to dig in the tape on him

I just don't see how Benching equates to NFL physicality. Plenty of smaller guys have been very physical like hines and troy. Then you have guys like Bush.....
