The local nursing homes are shifting to NH95 type masks… these do have more actual protection against transmission… they are still only 95% effective against standard particles and less effective against aerosols but still they are actual protection not just a cloth veil of stupidity….

N95/P95 masks should've been worn by the most vulnerable in the most vulnerable situations eg. nursing home residents in clustered settings where anyone could cough or sneeze on them (large respiratory droplets), and even then, they should've been used sparingly (group eating environment etc), especially because of the difficulty with breathing.
Now we have billions of people with single-use crappy cloth masks and the amount of waste they're causing (they're most often made with polypropylene plastic so they're not biodegradable) is disgusting. The amount of damage this has done both intrinsically and psychologically is irreparable at this point. Those in charge knew this from the get-go.
