Day Three - Draft

Looking over some game film, quickly I admit ... I think there is a decent chance McCormick winds up a better center than Frazier.

Why are the draft shows listing Fautanu as a guard?

because of his height, he's considered a bit undersized for OT, so many projected him at G. But he has long arms so his height is not an issue to play T. basically many people think he can be a good T but a great G/C.

With the steelers taking Frazier and McCormick, it says the steelers have him at OT

Good problem to have choices. I love what the Steelers have done for the oline. no longer a weakness. on paper at least

Someone noted it yesterday but nice observation non the less. Could be a compliment advertising his versatility but he is playing tackle. I remember some article proclaiming he would be the best center in the draft. Maybe the Steelers plan on using Frazier and him bringing in plays as center. Sarcasm Loyd.

He's a better athlete than Frazier. With Dawson and Pouncey, the steelers used to pull the Center. I think it depends on what you want to do. You can have Frazier as a mauler at RG and McCormick as the athletic C. Or you can have frazier as a more traditional C and use McCormick as the Decastro type athletic G.

Comment on Sedrick Van Pran-Granger: Pre-draft, I noted that he was not my choice at C. Decent pass blocker but not a very good run-blocker. He slides off blocks too much, particularly in space.

He dropped to the 5th for a reason.
It’s always interesting for a guy like me that really doesn’t know enough about the college players. Jackson Powers Johnson and Sedrick Van Pran were always mentioned in the beginning as the top picks. All the draft simulators ,many draft experts all mentioned these two. Graham Barton was barely mentioned. We’re talking about in like December-February. Happens with many players. Obviously the combine is the big difference maker.

I was scratching my head a little. Prior to their last pick, they were still showing team needs as T, CB and WR and had Fautanu listed as a guard. I was wondering if they actually believed he was drafted to play G.

At this point, i'd take any of the 3 Penn State DBs

Kalen King - physical, improved his 40 time to 4.52 at pro day. Can play inside or out, maybe safety. Tough.
Johnny Dixon - experienced and scrappy outside CB can be a good nickel back.
Daequan Hardy - blazing fast and athletic. played slot CB. Great punt returner.

If we are looking for a NCB, I like Myles Harden too. He is a very capable run defender and has the COD numbers that equate to NCB.

If we don't grab Rice or another WR, we may be looking to pick a vet up after the draft, IMO.

Not too much available at DL that will be as good as roster cut-downs later, IMO.

From steelerfan448 board., DJ James, Devonshire, Wilson, Washington and Boyd

Lot of “draft gurus” wanted to see him switched to Guard because he lacks 1/4 inch in height to fit the ideal profile as a Tackle.

Maybe Denver will take a 6th round pick for Courtland Sutton. The Steelers can give him a little more guaranteed money up front. Bring back Cameron Sutton on a cheap one year prove it deal as he gets through the legal issues that are wrapping up. Bring back Eric Rowe and Myles Jack if possible on a team friendly contract since they provide decent depth and know the defense. I don't know if bringing Peterson back cheap would help or not.
I'd give them BOTH 6th's for Courtland...

How about Brade, from Mayland so you know someone's pushing for him. A good safety

Which one do you think has the highest upside to develop into a contributor?

Exactly. Height for OT matters due to the relationship between height and arm length, and arm length matters to keep the defenders hands off the OT's chest and to allow the OT to direct the pass rusher above the QB.

For Fautanu, that is a non-issue. Dude has 34 1/2" arms. Know who has shorter arms? Tristan Wirfs, pro-bowl OT (34"); Ryan Ramcyzk (33 3/4"); Rashawn Slater (33"); Laremy Tunsil (34 1/4"). I could go on.

Remember Kelvin Beachum, a really good LT? Same "issue" - he was 6'3" but had those incredibly long arms. I think I recall him and those guys listed above being pretty good at the position. I could be wrong.
