Massive Height Difference Between Dri Archer And Kelvin Benjamin

Would not be shocked if they cut Dri Archer. He hasn't shown anything since a few big plays in pre-season LAST year.

I know he's a third round pick. But if they get squeezed with roster spots, maybe they kick him to the curb.

Rookies deserve a little time to get their feet down...so I defended Archer from the get-go. He was a confident, blazing-fast player at Kent State, plenty of 60+ yard highlight plays. I totally understood what they saw in him, drafting him when they did.

Sophmore year in the 'Burgh, he's looking to be run-of-the-mill player, one of many on the fringes of the league. Getting very little done on runs, catches or returns. And it's not like the Steelers haven't given him opportunities... I keep rubbing my eyes hoping he breaks something, anything.

But I will never apologize to TMC, Vader or anyone else that was hating on that pick hours, if not minutes, after the draft. I guess I'll be stubborn as long as I live, to always take a wait-and-see approach with new players coming in.
There's still a chance, however slight, that he switches it on and turns into Jamaal Charles. Never stop believing! :towel2:

Archer was great in college. It is such a different story in the NFL however. Not saying Archer is not athletic enough. But his size in the NFL just doesn't cut it

I'd be surprised if he gets cut because that would be admitting it was a mistake to draft him.

I know he's fast, but during games he doesn't look faster than Antonio, Martavis, and probably not Leveon anymore.

Dri Archer could quite possibly be the first RB in NFL History to average negative YPC for his career!

Unless he has been sandbagging it, he all out of oppurtunity (s) with me. SHOW me something or MOVE on.

Salute the nation

He's not getting cut. He's our starting kr and backup pr

If that's the case I hope he starts doing something with the ball in his hands.

Coach Shades would have to put him on the field first.

depending on who gets cut elsewhere, I think there is a strong possibility he's gone.

Anyone else on the team could do what he does in those positions, which almost nothing. Dump him and give one of the other young receivers a chance at returning punts/kicks, most of them can actually contribute on offense as well.

I don't hate Dri Archer, I just think he is useless to the team.

One of the worst things you can do as an organization is be stubborn. You made a bad call, it happens, the fans were right (or at least many of them). It happens to every team. But when you keep guys because of anything other than they deserve it, you are killing yourself. Same with uncle Jarvis.

I agree with not being shocked if they cut Dri. I know he was a 3rd round pick but he still hasn't shown me enough to keep him. They may keep him until Bryant comes back and if he doesn't do much by week 4, he may be cut then for Bryant to be put back on the roster.

Tomlin needs to suck the pride and let this waste go, he has shown nothing.

Nice thought but it'll never happen.
Do I think Tombert would keep inferior players they drafted over better players so it looks less like they made a mistake?
Yes, absolutely.

Look--you can get a guy like Archer in round 7. Reggie Dunn to me was pretty much the same player, except he was better on kickoff returns.

Just cut him yesterday, the Arena League is hiring. Or Canadian League Football, an EOE.

I'm trying to remember a high round pick we dumped after a couple years. Scott Shields maybe ?

I had to look it up......

1996 1st Round – OT Jamain Stephens, North Carolina A&T ( two years and out )
On the first day of Training Camp in 1999, Stephens showed up to St. Vincent College looking closer to 400 pounds than the 336 pounds listed in the Steelers media guide. Head coach Bill Cowher had a tradition of beginning camp each year with a challenging running test that was mandatory for all players. Stephens not only failed to finish the test, but he nearly collapsed ¾ of the way through. With the rest of the offensive players trying to motivate him, Stephens slowly walked through the final three 40-yard sprints. The incident was embarrassing to the entire organization, and literally three hours later Cowher cut the former first-rounder. It was a terrible end to one of the worst draft picks in franchise history.

1999 2nd Round – S/DB Scott Shields, Weber State ( two and out )
Unfortunately for both the Steelers and Shields, he simply lacked the intelligence needed to learn the defensive playbook. Often times he would line up out of position. He would miss easy tackles, get juked out of his shoes by receivers in open field, and worst of all he would consistently get flagged for dumb penalties. In the span of one season, Shields went from a promising young player to a guy barely holding onto a roster spot in 2000. After being pegged as the starting free safety in camp, Shields lost his job to free-agent acquisition Brent Alexander. After backing up Alexander for ten games in 2000, Shields was released. He never played another down of professional football.

2003 2nd Round – OLB Alonzo Jackson, Florida State ( two and out )
The Steelers imagined Jackson as the next coming of Joey Porter. Unfortunately, after a decent preseason, Jackson disappeared. He was never able to break into the defensive rotation, and following two lackluster seasons in which he played in only nine games, the Steelers cut him loose.

Looks like it's two years to figure it out before the Rooney's decide to cut their losses.

If you're going to carry a pure returner, someone like Trindon Holiday is miles better and out on the street. Admittedly he seems to fumble, tho.

Probably a type of guy they could look into picking up after the first week if we want more on kickoffs

I wouldn't cut him. 1. Bell is suspended 2 games and has Chisholm or Heard or hell even Harris blown you away? Not saying Archer has either but he has had a few decent plays where he literally tripped over his feet which might have been the difference between a 10-15 gain to who knows. I have not seen that type of ability from Heard or Chisholm. 2. This is his second year and I agree he has not set the world on fire he has at least shown a little flash. I am not saying he will progress this year but I think from what I have saw he has earned the a spot and opportunity to show he can grow... no pun intended.

You've seen more from him than I have. He averaged 2.3 YPC against the Panthers along with his 5.5 YPR. Even Harris averaged minimally better. I know they won't cut him but he brings nothing to the table.

Archer was 12 for 48 4ypc and 10 catches for 58 yards for 5.8 per in the preseason. Again, not mind blowing numbers but better than Chisholm, Heard or Harris.
