Evaluating Trubisky - too early edition

Allen, once he improved, did what Ben did and made everyone else look better

The skill players looked better because he could threaten the entire field, this in turn made the run game harder to defend as well, his mobility made the OL look better…sound like anyone we know and watched for the last couple decades?

Not saying KP can do that, but definitely starting to see that Mitch can’t…the question is can Mitch not do it because what he’s instructed to do or because of his lack of field vision/speed of reads through his progression and presnap?

The natives are definitely getting restless watching the steaming pile of crap that we’re putting out there tho
Thing I find interesting about Allen is he was talented but I am not sure anyone saw that transforming into what you see present day.

With the success some QBs had starting in their rookie season mixed in with Pickett's preseason development and according to many being this year's most pro ready QB, I really don't see the need to sit him for long. Especially with the O being one of the leagues worst.

I was all on board for Mitch starting. His preseason and Kenny's were close. But Mitch was a starter before, been to the playoffs, sat a year, was fresh and ready, got a bad deal in Chi., etc. But now.....

Give Kenny a shot. Maybe light a fire. If the kid fails, pull him so he doesn't end up being a Falco, ride Mitch the rest of the year. Then, after the season, Draft some damn good OL and DL, fire Canada, hire a new OC.

This argument is becoming so tiresome, the OL has given him pretty good pass protection, he's had time to throw. The OL has absolutely not been an issue in pass pro. The same people claiming it's ridiculous to call for Pickett and claim he's being "over hyped" and won't do any better, are the same ones trying to find any and all reasons that it's NOT Mitch's fault
Forgive me, I'm not pinning ALL of this on the O-Line, and ONLY on the O-Line.
The combination of our O-Line, plus the retardedness that is Canada, while factoring in the ineptness that is HCMT, and you can hopefully understand while I'm apprehensive to put our 1st round pick future QB out there RIGHT NOW.
We have no identity on offense and a head coach and OC with no clue how to game plan/make adjustments/play to the strengths of the players they have.
This doesn't make me "excited" to see us ruin the development and/or psyche of our future.
I'm not saying I don't trust the kid.
I don't trust the parents and babysitters.

Exactly why we need to give KP a chance. Allen came in and started halfway through the first game of the year. Our next game will be the our 3rd. He started every game after that until he was injured. So yeah he was the starter year 1 after 1/2 a game. Didn't seem to hurt him did it ? Both teams lines sucked. Our skill position players are better and our defense is better. The only issue is our ****** OC and head coach. But for you to say it some how will ruin KP is just crazy. Give the kid a chance.
6 of one, half dozen of the other.
It's like pre-season games.
If you play them, and EVERYTHING goes right, then it was smart to get them reps, to knock the rust off, to get in sync, yada yada yada.
If you play the rookie QB and he's lost because he's running an F'd up NOT NFL caliber offense, with an in over their head OC and HC calling the plays, with a far below average O-Line, and he gets shellshocked and he's David Carr II, then you obviously messed up.
Until the offensive system is clicking for EVERYONE, until we get a new OC/HC that can come up with an offensive scheme to put our players in position to win, until we use early draft capital on offensive lineman instead of RBs and TEs ( and I LOVE both Najee and Pat ), I don't want to risk "losing" him.
Would rather handle with kid gloves and get 10-15 years of him.......just like our last time.

If your waiting for us to get all that **** right before you start him, he will retire as a career player on the bench. Until you get rid of Tomlin all that other stiff will not happen. And our last time was Ben who came in during his 2nd career game and replaced a injured Maddox. They didn't wait for ****. he is either a starting QB or he isn't. This team is years away from a perfect situation.

Ben said not to blame Mitch on his podcast and Hoge really ripped canadas schemes. Hoge was a film study analyst so i think he would have some good knowledge. Claypool says "We can only do what they tell us to do and execute it. " There is a rumor that the organization front office, players, etc etc is growing tired of Canada. Again its just a rumor, but certainly seems plausible. The consensus seems to be Canada is the true problem. Even if guys are open downfield Mitch might just be following what he is told. None of us know what is going on exactly just that mitch is the easy scapegoat

Again as others said, Ben had a very good Oline with a top notch run game and a great D. Pickett has only one of those, well not anymore without tj Watt.

Very different situations to start. When I see the OLine giving a good push for to the RBs to thrive then I'd agree to start Pickett

I remember watching that draft with a Bill fan friend and telling him “you just got the best QB in the draft”

And he’s exceeding my lofty expectations as well

Maybe KP will start before he is 30. Wasting years on the bench. He will start before the year is done. And he will be better than Mitch.

I know Trubisky isn't playing great at this point but this comment by him and the other comments coming from other players about Canaduh are very telling. Your starting QB should always have the option to audible. They ran the RPO last year with Ben who wasn't mobile anymore. They wanted to get a more mobile QB but have abandoned the RPO this year and I don't think Trubisky rolled out once in the Cheats game and on the 3rd and 2 in our final O series, he should have been rolling out. They aren't using the mobility they so desperately said they wanted and needed.

“We’re still figuring out when is a good time for me to audible and if, within each play, I have the option to do so,” Trubisky said.

As one said earlier watch Ben's show Ben as well as Hodge had some great observation then throw in Gerry Dubyak tweet of what Mitch has to say about audibles brings a lot of more fingers at Canada and his offense than to Mitch or whomever gets under center. Als the fact of rumblings in the huddle and Tomlin says he is fine with this, how could that be. Canada says they need work to get better and be on same page, Tomlin like the finger pointing in the huddle. This is the time for Tomlin to be the head coach make decision where this team is going. I thought last preseason with Tomlin and Colbert running Ben out of town was not helping the team, seem worse now. Only going int the third game. Might as well throw in the fact fans booing and shouting Kenny, Tomlin did not hear. Now we Know Tomlin can't see or hear.

Just possibly give MASON a try in there as well.

so no Oline adjustments pre-snap? no max protection or hot routes?

Until we fix our sieve of an offensive line, which got Ben car killed, Mason car killed, and now Mitch car killed, you don't send in a rookie and completely ruin him.
I don't want to see our first rounder looking like a deer in headlights presnap, and then constantly hearing footsteps post snap so that he has happy feet in the pocket and hurries his reads and throws.
Let Mitch and Mason take all the lumps until we address this obvious glaring need so we can keep his psyche and confidence in tact and he can be useful to us for the next decade plus.
Boy not giving Pickett much credit... Put him in and see if he can handle the pressure, it's never going be perfect so let's see what this pro ready 1st rounder has got.

What makes you think he is going to be a franchise QB like the last one? Put him in and see what he has in the head and heart.

Just tell him hell or high water sling it like your name is Chad Powers and ya only get this one shot at tryout as our starting QB

As long as you throw over the middle and past 10 yards at least 5 times each maybe you can have another shot

What makes you think he is going to be a franchise QB like the last one? Put him in and see what he has in the head and heart.
OK, semantics.
We don’t know for 100% certainty right now he’s a franchise QB.
But we do know we spent a 1st round pick on him and he will be on our roster for AT LEAST the next 5 years.
There is zero reason to rush him out for the sole purpose to “see what we got”.
At this very moment, he’s simply an investment, a lottery pick, one the Steelers do believe is their next franchise QB.
Ben only played his rookie season because of injuries……plural. Both Batch and Maddox had to go down.
Until Mitch gets hurt, or we’re mathematically eliminated from playoffs, we won’t see him.

Canada is the problem, which is made worse by the leadership ignoring our O Line, and MT being not so impressive for many reasons. It's a cluster. So, do we take MT out of the mix by putting in MR or KP? What about the other two issues of Canada and the line?

There are no easy answers here. It will take more than a great QB to fix this mess.

Because the standard, you know.

That's unfortunate... I would hope a first round lottery pick would not be so mentally week that you need to protect him from a game he has been playing his entire life.

Not setting the bar high huh?

😁

Does anyone else feel Mason would have done a better job the last two games?
I dunno maybe more yards and FGs. More INTs too....

So it would have been unfortunate for Ben to have sat the year had Batch AND Maddox both not got hurt?
I know we’re both dealing in hypotheticals.
I’m just not sure why you’re so antsy to throw Pickett to the wolves.
Just because he’s a first round pick?
Just because he plays QB?
On a team where our defense has kept us in all the games, currently at .500, with inept coaching and schemes, your grand plan is to throw the rookie into the fire?
He’s the missing ingredient and/or it’s best he learns in the worst possible setup?
