Evaluating Trubisky - too early edition

Canada is the problem, which is made worse by the leadership ignoring our O Line, and MT being not so impressive for many reasons. It's a cluster. So, do we take MT out of the mix by putting in MR or KP? What about the other two issues of Canada and the line?

There are no easy answers here. It will take more than a great QB to fix this mess.

Because the standard, you know.
The line has been serviceable these two games. Last game, MT was sacked 3 times. Two of those were MT doing his run to the sideline and forget to throw the ball away thing. The other was when Najee got blown the **** up and the guy he was assigned to block got the sack.
Speaking of Najee, why does he get a pass on the running game issues? There's a nice little video out there of all the big *** holes he has missed in the first two games (Moreso against the Pats*** than the Bengals). Ramon and DK were talking about this today on Foster's show. A funny thing happened with Najee when Warren started hitting holes with authority and picking up some (little) yardage. Lo and behold, Najee started hitting holes with authority instead of doing a bad LeVeon impression and HE started picking up yardage instead of getting tackled behind the LOS.

If we put Pickett in Tomlin / Canada has the built in excuse of "he is a rookie." I dont see Rudolph getting in, but it would be interesting to see what would happen

The concept that you can ruin a rookie QB by throwing him into the first is entirely subjective to who that rookie is. Our rookie played 5 YEARS of college ball, half of which games were at HEINZ FIELD and he balled out in preseason. There is absolutely no reason he shouldn’t start against the Jets if Mitch doesn’t get a win and post a QB rating over 110 on Thursday.

I can't say as to the win with much authority but I can say I highly doubt Mitch is posting 110+

85+ would have won that last game. smh

So would have Ben, but we got neither......................... O'h the irony...... LoL

So it would have been unfortunate for Ben to have sat the year had Batch AND Maddox both not got hurt?
I know we’re both dealing in hypotheticals.
I’m just not sure why you’re so antsy to throw Pickett to the wolves.
Just because he’s a first round pick?
Just because he plays QB?
On a team where our defense has kept us in all the games, currently at .500, with inept coaching and schemes, your grand plan is to throw the rookie into the fire?
He’s the missing ingredient and/or it’s best he learns in the worst possible setup?
It's his job to play the game of football, he has been playing it competitively for a long time... Put him in, the inept coaching is going nowhere... He has to be able to deal adversities on the field if he can't well on to the next guy. I don't really care about the Ben situation in regards to the QB situation right now.

We had a great QB trying to overcome all these variables for years to no avail…to start the rookie-that would be a lot of pressure to put on KP, but as fans there ain’t much worth watching right now so it’s more just about having a little hope going into games

The hard answer, which we know will not happen, is organized change starting from the top down.

A new philosophy brought in by a new mind that invests in crazy things like an OL and then utilizes the weapons…sadly we’re doing everything in the wrong order spending high picks on a RB (wasted pick) and a potential franchise QB (wasted pick) to put behind a weak OL being coached by weak minds

Nothing changes til you can do basic things like block. Our HC has had more than ample time to test his crack pot ideas to no avail wasting a period of time with a HOF QB, solid/decent OL and some of the top weapons in the league-left this period with nothing to show for it. Now we try to rebuild for another run and will waste a dominant defense-again likely with nothing to show for it…when will ownership learn?

The seat isn’t even close to warm and never will be…again our only hope is a complete overhaul from the top down and it will require an outside source like a major network/Amazon to pry MT away from Rooney and release us from this sick cycle of being almost good but just dangerously average. It is the standard.

I'm having seriously doubts about 22...started noticing his shortcomings last season..

Poor vision and anticipation...makes for a very mediocre NFL back....He certainly doesn't look like a number one pick to me.

He does hurdle and throw d-backs around pretty well though...so there's that.

Hope he gets it together soon.

I can't wait for tomorrow night's game and not just because I'm a STEELERS Fanatic, but also to see the impact of what will be different from Sunday to Thursday. There has been a lot of finger pointing and NOT just from the players.

1) Will Mitch say ****-it and throw O'Canada to wind and start flinging that rock ?
2) Will O'Canada have a growth moment quit possibly calling a better game?
3) Will Coach Tomlin finally answer a media QUESTION plain and clearly?
4) Will we as fans feel much better, even if for just a week or so, about offense and play struggle.

5) Will anything significant happen this season ?

Answers

1) Mitch will be a little bit loser with his throws but still conservative on big chunk passes. Might even go over the middle 10+ yards a time or two.
2) The offense will be a little better play calling for the first 20 plays or so (scripted) then back to near normal with a couple down field throws and possibly over the middle of 10+ yard throws but limited to 2-4.
3) NO, notta a prayer in hell chance because the pudding has been let out.
4) Part of us will be but parts of us will know the problem is deeper than one week.

5) The ONLY thing possible is better play calling. Even if O'Canada is relieved of duty he will NOT be let go to walk due to his selfishness and arrogance. NO coaching changes / firings / resignations.

So I've been doing my current job for over 20 years, albeit with different companies.
When I got to my current company, even though I had been doing my job for over a decade, my VP didn't show me my office and say, "Get to it."
I went through corporate training. I read contracts to see the type of language/setup this company uses as opposed to my last company. IT walked me through our corporate system and the different applications we use.
Once I had the lay of the land, and was comfortable with the day to day behind the scenes, I then sat in and "shadowed" my VP on contract negotiations.
This is done for everyone they bring in. It's not due to me being slow or inept or fragile or dealing with adversities.
My company invested in me and want an ROI. With all the training and slow build to me doing my job, the same one I've already been doing elsewhere for a long time, my company was putting me in the best possible scenario to succeed.
The Steelers are no different with their players.
They'll put him in when they feel he's ready and/or it gives the team the best chance to win.
They obviously don't think that's right now.

Ben Roethlisberger before Matt Canada: 7.8 ypa, 12.2 ypc
Ben Roethlisberger after Matt Canada: 6.2 ypa, 9.6 ypc
I posted Ben’s stats in the passing chart thread, here’s Trubisky’s:

Before Matt Canada: 6.7 ypa, 10.5 ypc
After Matt Canada: 5.1 ypa, 8.6 ypc

Think it might be Canada’s offense that’s the problem?

open the game with a deep pass down the sideline to Pickens
if that fails, we go back to dink and dunk

if that succeeds, then we go back to dink and dunk on the next series.

And he’s not Creed plus the other pick that would’ve been had in the trade back many here wanted…what’s a thread without the coulda shoulda aspect haha

And yup we got Harris so cheers to him hoisting as many Lombardis as our last RB named Harris

At this point I almost think we need to get our ***** kicked to change

Maybe Chubb can ram Bush for 4 TDs in the first half and put us in a nice 28-3 hole

The type of hole that force a growth moment like us actually taking a few chances and start slingin’ the rock

I’d gladly take one heaping helping of *** whoopin’ if it wakes them up and they realize we actually can throw downfield AND exploit the middle as well. Sometimes ya gotta get a little bloody before ya really start fighting…speaking from past experience

I always hear arguments about “this is what we could have gotten if we traded back”. That is straight BS.

There is absolutely no guarantee that a trade back was even an option.
If the trade back was offered and accepted, there is still no guarantee the said players would even still be there.
Second guessing AFTER the fact is BS.

I’m not sure ONE *** whooping causes ANY CHANGES, not even sure a 4-13 season changes much.

Harris has nothing to do with Creed. We passed on Creed for both Harris AND Freiermuth. And as has been said repeatedly, after Harris was taken, Etienne was taken. no way either falls to us in Round 2. Which would mean we'd be rolling out Snail and Macfoolin at RB.

We could have easily - EASILY - had Harris and Creed.

the cluster **** that is Kendrick Green robbed us of taking Spencer Brown, Ben Cleveland, Quinn Meinerz, OR Robert Hainsey. Though we landed Dan Moore in Round 4 of that draft, so we have that working for us.

Jaylen Warren I don't believe would have missed that back side hole at the 35 second mark of Buckeye's video. Najee seems to be looking for the soft hit or running upright way too often, never shows that 6" burst great backs have. Yeah the stiff-arm and the leap blah blah blah. Wasted draft capital but his pedigree 🥴

It's football it's not complex. Again he seems to have the IQ to do it. Let's not live in our fears just play the guy.

The verdict is still out of Dan Moore is “working for us”…couldn’t tell if that was sarcasm or not

And plenty of FA RBs available
Certainly don’t need a first rounder…at all
Didn’t need Harris or Etienne

What we’ve needed for awhile is better OL talent, something we’ve been quite averse to investing in

It’s not second guessing if you suggested it in real time…just sayin. Many, including myself said it was stupid to take a back in the first as it happened…that is not second guessing.

And it was said tongue in cheek…relax
The trade back speculation I guess could be perceived that way…that’s just me being greedy
