"Though racial discrimination exists, it is nowhere near the barrier it once was. The relevant question is: How much of what we see today can be explained by racial discrimination? This is an important question because if we conclude that racial discrimination is the major cause of black problems when it isn't, then effective solutions will be elusive forever. To begin to get a handle on the answer, let's pull up a few historical facts about black Americans.
In 1950, female-headed households were 18 percent of the black population. Today it's close to 70 percent. One study of 19th-century slave families found that in up to three-fourths of the families, all the children lived with the biological mother and father. In 1925 New York City, 85 percent of black households were two-parent households. Herbert Gutman, author of "The Black Family in Slavery and Freedom, 1750-1925," reports, "Five in six children under the age of six lived with both parents." Also, both during slavery and as late as 1920, a teenage girl raising a child without a man present was rare among blacks.
A study of 1880 family structure in Philadelphia found that three-quarters of black families were nuclear families (composed of two parents and children). What is significant, given today's arguments that slavery and discrimination decimated the black family structure, is the fact that years ago, there were only slight differences in family structure among racial groups.
Coupled with the dramatic breakdown in the black family structure has been an astonishing growth in the rate of illegitimacy. The black illegitimacy rate in 1940 was about 14 percent; black illegitimacy today is over 70 percent, and in some cities, it is over 80 percent.
The point of bringing up these historical facts is to ask this question, with a bit of sarcasm: Is the reason the black family was far healthier in the late 1800s and 1900s that back then there was far less racial discrimination and there were greater opportunities? Or did what experts call the "legacy of slavery" wait several generations to victimize today's blacks?
The Census Bureau pegs the poverty rate among blacks at 28.1 percent. A statistic that one never hears about is that the poverty rate among intact married black families has been in the single digits for more than two decades, currently at 8.4 percent. Weak family structures not only spell poverty and dependency but also contribute to the social pathology seen in many black communities -- for example, violence and predatory sex. Each year, roughly 7,000 blacks are murdered. Ninety-four percent of the time, the murderer is another black person. Though blacks are 13 percent of the nation's population, they account for more than 50 percent of homicide victims. Nationally, the black homicide victimization rate is six times that of whites, and in some cities, it's 22 times that of whites. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, between 1976 and 2011, there were 279,384 black murder victims. Coupled with being most of the nation's homicide victims, blacks are also major victims of violent personal crimes, such as assault, rape and robbery.
To put this violence in perspective, black fatalities during the Korean War (3,075), Vietnam War (7,243) and all wars since 1980 (about 8,200) come to about 18,500, a number that pales in comparison with black loss of life at home. Young black males had a greater chance of reaching maturity on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan than on the streets of Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Oakland, Newark and other cities.
The black academic achievement gap is a disaster. Often, black 12th-graders can read, write and deal with scientific and math problems at only the level of white sixth-graders. This doesn't bode well for success in college or passing civil service exams.
If it is assumed that problems that have a devastating impact on black well-being are a result of racial discrimination and a "legacy of slavery" when they are not, resources spent pursuing a civil rights strategy will yield disappointing results."

You appear to suggest that the crimes you reference are recent, and resulted in little punishment to the offenders. Let me try and address the events you mention:
1. The events in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Those occurred June 21, 1921. That is 93 years ago.
100% correct that those who attacked and burned down the homes and businesses in Tulsa were not prosecuted. Things have changed substantially. To wit ...
2. Dragging African-American behind a pick-up truck. I presume you are referring to the murder of James Byrd, Jr. The result was that the three murderers were convicted, and two sentenced to death. Are you suggesting the punishment was insufficient? Do you want the authorities to dig up Brewer and kill him again?
3. Lynching from staring too long at a white woman or refusing to exit the sidewalk when a white person approaches.
I googled this and found nothing that fit the description. The closest I could find was the brutal murder of 14-year old Emmett Till in Mississippi in 1955. He whistled at a store owner's wife, and was then kidnapped and murdered by the store owner and the store owner's brother. The two were arrested and tried for murder, and found not guilty in just one hour by an all-white jury.
Horrible. Indescribably awful, and the two who kidnapped and murdered a kid should have been executed. A racist verdict by an all-white jury.
The nation has changed for the better in the treatment of such horrible crimes against African-Americans. The tactic of using challenges to control the ethnicity of the jury has been unconstitutional for 28 years, since Batson v. Kentucky, 476 U.S. 79 (1986). That case held that a prosecutor cannot use peremptory challenges to dismiss potential jurors for no reason other than they are of the same race as the defendant. It is thereby basically impossible for the Till verdict based on an all-white jury to occur again.
Therefore, I think your indictment of the American judicial system is predicated on events 60 years or older, and do not reflect the judicial system for the past 2 generations.
Further, the difficulties that African-Americans face in the current judicial process are the same as faced by Hispanics, or whites - if you cannot afford a private lawyer, you are in jeopardy of getting a half-assed defense based upon mediocre legal counsel. That is a matter of finances, not race. Additionally, African-Americans are subjected to criminal prosecution for drug-related offenses to a great extent because African-American community leaders demanded prosecution of crack dealers in the 1980's, and accused prosecutors of racism for failing to go after the drug dealers.
That led to minimum sentences, and a burgeoning African-American presence in jail based on drug-related crimes. But the origins of the longer sentences and vigorish prosecution were not racist - they were basically demanded by African-American leaders to try and stem the tide of the sale of cheap cocaine.
Just to keep the facts accurate, Indy - the Emancipation Proclamation did NOT end slavery. It ended slavery ONLY in the states then in secession.
Missouri, Kentucky and Maryland and Delaware were all slave states that remained part of the Union as of April, 1861 and therefore retained the right to permit slavery. Most states outlawed slavery during the Civil War, but Kentucky did not.
Slavery was in fact not outlawed until the nation adopted the 13th amendment in 1865. Congress then outlawed slavery in the "Indian territories" one year later, at which point slavery could not legally take place anywhere in the country.
If I was really interested in owning a slave, I would convert to Islam, and join ISIS.

SMH....I dont think you really understand the term "Racist" and what it means....matter of fact, i KNOW you dont. That term is misapplied quite often...especially in these circles. Let me point something out so you have a better understanding of where im launching from. Theres a difference between racially prejudiced and being a racist. One of these terms is defined as one believing they are racially superior over another or others. It doesnt describe me or most blacks since we mostly preach EQUAL TREATMENT...EQUAL OPPORTUNITY. EQUALITY. Fairness. Its all we want....its all we EVER wanted. So, please, take the time to think about the context and definition of the term RACIST before you apply it...especially to a person of color.
As for discrimination in the NFL...against white players ? Seriously ? Perhaps you should query the league talent scouts, head coaches and GMs, about why the league is comprised of 80% black athletes. What do you think the responses would be ? White guys can ball too....im not suggesting they cant. Use em where they excel. But at one point the NFL was comprised of over 90% white athletes. What changed ? When given an equal shot the black athlete proved he could play. With coaching, up until 1979, the league had only one minority coach. But the recent success of coaches like Dungy, Tomlin, Smith and Caldwell (all participants in Super Bowls over the last decade) has shown that African American coaches can hold their own and do as well as their white counterparts. In line to achieve coaching success at this level could be Kevin Sumlin and David Shaw, should they decide to make that leap to the NFL.
So, things are changing and evolving and its amazing what can happen when you give someone the opportunity to perform on an equal playing field (given the same tools)

What witnesses might these be ? Because if i recall correctly there were members of the "police force" or associates of Wilson that said he "told them..." his version.
There have been three witnesses that have went before the public thru interviews that claimed he did not charge officer Wilson. There have been claims from the Police Chief and other news organizations claiming "orbital bone fractures", which have now been refuted.
Give me the source of these "purported dozen"......id like to read up on it. And when you say "corroborate", what exactly is the degree of corroboration....were they there at the scene as it unfolded ?

Isn't it interesting that you challenge the witnesses? "You'd like to read up on it" so you can attempt to discredit the witnesses. You immediately dismiss any potential witnesses that may have been with law enforcement (as if their testimony would have to be tainted). Yet, on the other hand, you're willing to accept witnesses that knew Brown, were with Brown, or simply sympathize with Brown that also have motive to lie.
To this point every witness can be discredited, on both sides, for "guilt by association". Dorian Johnson, like Michael Brown, was a common street thug, with a record, with a warrant out for his arrest, and had previously been caught lying. He's also admitted to lying in this instance. HIS words led to the rioting and looting. His lies. But...somehow he's to be believed over a police officer? Got ya.
Every witness that says Brown was shot in the back has been discredited by the autopsy...not a single entry wound from Brown's back.
So go on...try to discredit these witnesses who support the police because they have an agenda. And I'll point to Dorian and Michael's friends, and everyone in the hood that has an agenda as well. That tactic of yours, to discredit witnesses, has to be used EQUALLY (you're favorite word), not selectively.
On another note, how do you discredit the background audio in the YouTube video taken by the "brother" with Brown lying dead in the street? The one where another brother's heard discussing Michael charging the officer, he kept coming...
You appear to want to be viewed as objective, yet you will only accept witness accounts and evidence that support the theory that Brown was innocently murdered.
So many wanna believe the original story, the passive, church-going, poor innocent Michael Brown was murdered in cold blood by the cops. Instead, stories like this make me believe the officer with the perfectly clean record shot in self defense against the accused murderer and Crip.
I may still be proven wrong, but if one had to deduce, the "likely" story is the Officer's at this point, not Brown's...not when you consider their characters and records, the characters and records of the witnesses, and the plausibility of the two stories, one which is very far fetched (dragging a 300lb man into your car), one which is believable self defense. Again, I could be wrong, but logic doesn't stack at this point on Brown's side.

If you were to be "selective" in whom you approached, you could get what you were looking for. But i know a lot more blacks than you do. And i know quite a bit of them understand that there are obstacles against them based on skin color--AND they dont blame all their problems on white folks

He probably determined "this ************ MIGHT BE serious about killing me...let me make my break". So he ran...once he heard the next few shots he KNEW he was serious. Why would someone fear for their lives one second and attempt to flee, then a second later determine death by suicide (cop) is the option, SUDDENLY. Thats not logical. If Michael Brown wanted to die (battling) at the hands of this officer, i think he wouldve done so at the door or inside that Police SUV.
Or if you're really fortunate, become the owner of a professional sports franchise...didn't Adrian Peterson or Mendenhall once say they were like slaves?

I don't think you understand the concept of sarcasm. I don't think it's a bit racist that it's mostly black players. I think that the biggest strongest, fastest, most talented players should get the jobs. And I don't care if they are black white or green.
You think that the NFL has some responsibility to ensure there are equal or relatively equal numbers of black and white coaches. I wouldn't suggest for a second that black guys can't be great coaches. But to impose some sort of artificial quota means someone is chosen on the basis of their skin color alone. That shouldn't be the case with either players or coaches.

Do black people not have access to the same schools, jobs, water fountains, housing markets ext as white people now? Black people aren't demanding an equal playing field, they are demanding a stacked deck, and still losing at the card game. While losing at the game they aren't blaming themselves for behind left behind (out of wedlock marriage, drug use, gang activity, high drop out rates), they focus their anger on the white man keeping them down. The cause of this "logic" are "black leaders" that are too afraid to offend the black community.
Want a level playing field? Marry before kids. Have a father and mother in the picture. Graduate high school (at least). Work your balls off all your life. Be smart with your money and teach your kids the same. This is and has always been the only path to the American dream for all races. Don't hear these problems for the Asians for the most part. They follow the steps I listed above.
You should say "Some" blacks. Non of what you posted applies to me in any way or form.. I don't go around referring to all racist cops or people in general as "Whites".

I apologize. The mouthpieces for the black community aren't demanding equality, they are demanding a stacked deck. Don't like their message make your voice be heard.
