Freedom of political belief is now under fire by the left.

If a woman in Obama administration were denied the right to be served at a restaurant, people would be up in arms, and I'd agree with them.**

This nation has a past history of making some people feel uncomfortable and unwelcome*by using such tactics.* I thought it was dead and buried before I was born.

Yet in 2018, Sarah Huckabee Sanders was a victim from some restaurant, who refused to serve her based on political beliefs.* The ACLU, Jessie Jackson, and anyone who claims to really care about this stuff should be outraged.* Yet they are silent.* We are*in trouble if this becomes the new normal.** Barack Obama or Bill Clinton, if they want to provide leadership, should speak up in outrage as this is not acceptable.

When a group of people know they don't have a good argument in defense of something, the only sure way to win is to completely shut the opposing side down and attempt to cut off all speech from that side. Sound familiar at all?

God when is the whining gonna stop from Trump snowflakes? Trump - and a lot of you - spend the better part of your days insulting anyone and everyone who refuses to get on 'the Trump train,' yet run for your Kleenex the second the **** gets shoved back at you.

Right.

The left has gotten nastier and less civil every election cycle since Reagan. What you are seeing is the push back against that. Until recently the response was for the right to shut up and take it but now there is push back and you Neo-Socialists don't like it.

You are not very civilized, are you Tibs?

I see it very much the same way. Republicans are called Nazis, described as wanting to kill the elderly and children, compared to mass murderers and then when one guy hits back and returns fire, the left squeals and whines like a 5-year old who got nothing for Christmas.

By "insult," you mean post a response replete with facts, including charts and links to data sources? That kind of "insult"?

Further, you have stated that violence is unacceptable as a means of political confrontation, but you are fine with shouting at a woman in a restaurant and refusing to serve another woman at a restaurant and parking outside another woman's home to yell at her and her family.

You support getting into somebody's face and yelling. No touching, mind you, but everything just a hair short of physical violence is all good. News alert - the line seems clear to you, but if you are fine with getting into a woman's face and yelling at her, then you ascribe self-control to protesters that many just don't have. If a protester feels "right" in literally getting into Sarah Huckabee Sander's face and yelling, and believes she is evil and a liar and supports white supremacy (as you apparently do), then not expecting violence is unrealistic.

Violence will follow in that scenario, as surely as night follows day. Blaming Trump for the present level of discourse is both a lie and an easy out. Trump certainly gets deep into the mix, no doubt, but you know the phrase, "It takes two to tango"?? The left has been tangoing for years and for the first time, found a partner. Violence is the inevitable end to this approach.

Let me understand this......

Bakers agree to bake cake but advise they can't decorate due to religious beliefs - Left outrage and Right point to 1st Amendment.
Restaurant refuses to serve someone based on their political beliefs - Right outrage and left point to 1st Amendment.

Hypocrisy, ALL around.

Whatever happened to the simple sign of the business owner, "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason".
Think an owner is a bigot? Don't go there and spread the word.
Had a great inclusive experience at a place? Go there and spread the word.
Welcome to Capitalism.

I can't get into MENSA because my IQs not high enough.
I can't use CURVES gyms because I'm a man.
My son can't ride certain rides at amusement parks, vote, serve in the military, buy alcohol, buy tobacco, drive a car, etc. due to his age and height.
There's discrimination everywhere that has zero to do with hate/bigotry/some phobia.

I haven't smoked in over a decade, but I think it's criminal that you can't smoke in bars/bowling alleys/restaurants anymore.
Why can't an owner say, "This restaurant/bowling alley/bar/etc. allows smoking. If this is bothersome to you, go down the street to one that is smoke free."

Our once great society is crumbling.....because WE THE PEOPLE keep buying into Coke vs Pepsi and keep electing crooks into office, both Ds and Rs alike.

Maybe you're just reading the situation incorrectly coach.

I seem to recall the the usual alt-right knuckledraggers on this board having a synchronized orgasm when the supreme court ruled that gays could be denied service based on a business owners religious beliefs.

We don't know if this was the owner's and employees reasoning do we? Maybe some people who are not racist and TRULY Christian get really disgusted by the act of stealing peoples kids and locking them up in cages to be later abused by the psychopathic apes guarding them......ya think?

And if they are Christian they probably remember that whole thing in the 9th commandment about "bearing false witness" of which the transvestite mouthpiece for the Scumbag in Chief is well documented to be in violation of every time she opens up her hypocritical pie hole.

They should have just served her ,and put some feces in her food....live up to that old adage in a truly honest way: " You are what you eat."

I agree 1000%. I say this **** all the time. However, I am not sure how we ever get back to civil. This **** has gone WAY too far and now it is headed in a direction that can't possibly end well. I truly wish the American people would give Republicans and Democrats the finger and move to a party that truly wants to better America. Since we know that won't happen because you can see how entrenched people are just on this board, it is going to end badly. One of these "protesters" is going to go too far, someone is going to get hurt, and it is going to spark reprisals all across the country. I would be surprised if we can escape civil war at this point.

I'm a firm believer that a business owner has the right to refuse service to anyone for whatever reason, no shoes, no shirt, no service. And that includes politics and homosexuals.

That is not what the Supreme Court ruled. They ruled that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission "showed an impermissible hostility toward religion when it found that baker Jack Phillips violated the state’s anti-discrimination law by rebuffing gay couple David Mullins and Charlie Craig in 2012. The court concluded that the commission violated Phillips’ religious rights under the U.S. Constitution’s First Amendment."

They actually and inexplicably left the part you describe unaddressed--"But the justices did not issue a definitive ruling on the circumstances under which people can seek exemptions from anti-discrimination laws based on religion. The decision also did not address important claims raised in the case including whether baking a cake is a kind of expressive act protected by the Constitution’s free speech guarantee."

Right.

More of the old Conservatives think Liberals are wrong but Liberals think Conservatives are evil and need to be eliminated.

I don't agree with the decision, but it's simply one business owner's decision. If she is a genius she did it as a publicity stunt.
Based on all the overreaction if she did it as a stunt, Mission Accomplished. Taking one individual's decision and attributing
it to all those liberal minded is part of the problem.

It's early yet but I thought Libs would be lined up out the door in a show of support, you know, like we did with Chick-Fil-A. Of course it involved spending your own money and not someone else's, so there is that aspect.

WE need to stop being lazy and get involved.
WE need to not let the government run us, and WE need to start running the government again.
Our elected crooks have become the very same tyrannical entity our forefathers ran screaming from.

You are a vile ********

This right here is the false narrative that is preached NONSTOP in main stream media and parroted by everyone on both sides.
The gay couple was NOT refused service.
The bakers said they would bake the cake, they just could not decorate it.
They even went so far as to give them recommendations to other bakers/decorators that could help them.
The bakers didn't look at the couple and say, "**** you, *******. Get the **** out of my store!"......which is the picture that is repeatedly painted by all media.....and which would be outright discrimination for no other reason than bigotry.

A religious zealot should not be forced to decorate a cake for a homosexuals wedding.
A Jewish baker should not be forced to decorate a cake for a Nazi's birthday.
An African American baker should not be forced to decorate a cake to celebrate the anniversary of the KKK.
A baker with any label should not be forced to go out and buy specific ingredients to accommodate someone with an allergy.
A vegan baker should not be forced to decorate a cake for an animal testing facility.
Etc...Etc.

People can't have things both ways. If private companies are allowed to refuse service for whatever reason then neither side should complain. Those supporting the bakery decision should not complain about this. If i opened a restaurant and said only white men were allowed, is that acceptable? Or if someone else opened a restaurant and only allowed gays / lesbians is that acceptable? To me both scenarios are the same. If a private company can set its own rules then people will just have to go somewhere else.

Tibs,

Please stop and think. This can not become the new normal Democratic leaders including Clinton, Sanders and Obama should blast this owner. Why are they silent? Shades of the 1960's civil right movements, this is a slippery slope.

Religious beliefs are very different. Should any devote follower of a religion be forced to make something they oppose? I say no.

Here the refusal of service is not based on religion, race, or gender but on political views.

Problem is where do you draw the line? Okay to discriminate against politics but not skin color or religion? That's how way too many things end up at the Supreme Court.
Does that mean it's okay to discriminate against Muslims, for whom religion and politics are the same thing? (Oh goody!)
On one hand I don't think anyone should be discriminated against but on the other hand if I owned a restaurant I might like having the right to turn down the neo-Nazis or KKK if they asked to have a banquet in the private dining room.

Ha ha ha ha!!!!!!! Trump just hit Mad Max with a brick upside the head!

Congresswoman Maxine Waters, an extraordinarily low IQ person, has become, together with Nancy Pelosi, the Face of the Democrat Party. She has just called for harm to supporters, of which there are many, of the Make America Great Again movement. Be careful what you wish for Max!

Be careful what you wish for Max!

$10 and my left nut says that the media seizes on that as Trump threatening a sitting US Senator. This should be fun.
