Ike talks workouts

Great read and gotta like Ike's attitude!!!!!

Salute the nation

I still don't understand the logic of the front office ... They come to ike and ask/demand a pay cut to stay with the steelers... Hes in his 12th year.. And Ike WILL be a starting cornerback this year.

What if ike didn't take the paycut and bolt? Who is playing corner with cortez?

Ike is still a starting cornerback and being pay a lot less than he was paid last year..

I don't get it.

I do understand he wants to retire here.

Seems like Ike not only admitted he needed to get better but that he may have been injured. He said he feels healthy now. Perhaps an injury had him half a step or a step slower last year. He has stepped up his offseason regimen, which is a very good thing. That means he is healthy and will hopefully be better than last year. I hope he can play well this year and maybe even one more at a nice hometown discount. By then, our secondary should have some good young players to take his place. He can then ride off into the sunset as one of the best CB's to put on the Black & Gold.

Personally, I love Ike for "being Ike" - but, I do not like his hands and over-confidence at times. He needs an awareness coach...

he knew he wouldn't have a chance to start elsewhere and with a ****** contract for a ****** team probably

but the leverage of the steelers wasn't there to force it..

He was still our no 1 cb... he had a "bad?" year....

If the steelers cut him.. who is starting? We have/had no body as good as him.. (and then we don't even draft a legit replacement) I don't know.. it just doesn't all make sense to me.

I agree with your points, Bleeder, but he probably saw what Harrison went through and sucked it up. He helped the Steelers in taking the pay cut, but his willingness to retire a Steeler and be here outweighed the money. Very commendable and unselfish of Ike. He may not be elite, but he gets "it". When you are 8-8 two straight seasons, everyone needs to work harder and get better.
Even if they go 8-8 again, I know they are taking it serious to right the ship.

Ike's a class act and even though his play has declined he still is a hard worker and has that never say die attitude. I said it after the Broncos game where Thomas ran that game winning TD in that we needed to get a CB asap and as of yet we have not found Ike's replacement. I have high hopes for Cortez Allen but we still need a solid #2. I hope Tuitt turns out because we passed on the last of my top tier CB's in Stanely Jean-Baptiste for him. I understand why since Tuitt was a first rounder on many boards and was the highest ranked player but CB was a much bigger need. But as they say a pass rush always makes your secondary look better so it probably comes down to the front 7 getting pressure for the secondary.

Our defensive front got NO pressure the last two years, and that will expose any secondary. You just can't expect the secondary to run with 4-5 receivers while the QB has all the time in the world on every play.

Good QB's and even mediocre QB's will pick a D apart if given 5+ seconds to throw. We routinely give that much time unless we rushed 5 or 6. Our base 3 or 4 rarely got pressure on the QB.

I'm sorry, I just don't get it. Ike's play has been well below average for a few years, and you guys think he's awesome. I love the loyalty and all, but Ike has cost us multiple games the past few seasons. The quicker we move on from him, the better.

his attitude is awesome. HIs play is so-so. Until they find his replacement and soon, he is who we are hanging our hats on at Swag U.

Yep. And the converse is also true - tired old guys like Ike can look like defensive superstars in the secondary when the guys up front are pressuring the QB. Ike is not an all-world CB, but with better performance and personnel in front of him, he wouldn't look so mediocre either. My hope is that Tuitt and Shazier will make an immediate impact in that area, creating some QB pressure and helping out the secondary.

Black and Gold Bleeder, at this point, we are stuck with him, because unfortunately we've made no moves to improve the position. We should have been focusing on CB in the draft/FA more the past three seasons, and we could then easily replace Ike. Look, I like Ike's work ethic and the fact that he took a pay cut, but that's not going to win games. He has been beaten with regularity the past few seasons, and last year was putrid. People say he's still the best CB on the team, and I really don't see how you can say that with a straight face. Cortez and Gay both outplayed him last season, and it really wasn't even close.
So again, you're right, at this point, there's nobody on the team to replace him. That's the result of poor planning by the coaching staff/front office.

I think Allen was our #1 CB last year or at least 50-50 with Ike. Its not really fair to compare Gay because he was most likely covering the other teams #3 WR. I was hoping we could snag up or draft a good CB but so far that has not happened. If Ike can play better then our secondary should OK at least

A number one corner declines and a few of yinz want to get rid of him. Deplete the depth see how well that works out.

You have the number two spot and the slot/dime packages available.

I think he still has some play left...................

I think Ike may prove some people wrong this year. He's done it throughout his career with all of the naysayers on here. As I said, he hinted that he may have been injured. He has been able to step up his offseason training this year because he is healthy. If that is truly the case, he may come out and be the same very good CB he was 2 and 3 years ago. As a true Steeler fan, I hope he does.

I like Taylor but they can no longer put him in position to match up against the other team's top receiver every week. I am concerned beyond this year because I can fully expect that the Steelers will enter 2015 with Allen and Gay as their starting cornerbacks.

I completely agree.

So why agree to a pay cut? Or better yet why did the Front office ask him for one. With nobody to replace him. I hope he does well,, I still think he is serviceable. I think with the Woodley money the FO will sign a castoff from another team by the end of camp.
