Initial Thoughts on bungle Game

Tomlin was a disaster before halftime costing the Steelers points. He needed to call a time out on the final drive too when substituting, just terrible game management.

George Pickens zero clutch factor tonight. Just awful drops.

Freiermuth with a great game and a big drop in a big moment. The epitome of this team.

Who's brilliant idea was it to have Trice guard the best WR in the NFL this year for three quarters?

This team completely sucked the energy out of the stadium like I haven't seen in a long time during the third quarter, yet the fans still had more energy than the team.

Just a completely disappointing ending to the regular season setting up a likely return trip to Baltimore.

Pickens, 1 catch 0 yards, 3 drops....

Tonight officially voids his *** from complaining about anything again.

Worst game by a receiver in Steelers history.

Truth be told, I don't think Georgie likes playing in the cold.

Boy, can't wait for the playoffs!

Like Coolie said. Piss on this entire team.

He did fine in the cold in years prior. I think he was sending a message. Don't be shocked if they trade him next.

Russ makes his mistakes because he's short and sometimes doesn't see over the middle, but he does read a defense better than Fields. Russ is better than Fields right now. It's that simple.
Russ reads defenses more like a high school quarterback than a 13-year NFL veteran. It's either a moonball or a checkdown most of the time. It's that simple. Saying Russ can read a defense better than Fields is like saying that shlt tastes better than urine.
I think people have faulty memories of some great offense while Fields was in there. Fields holds the ball more than Russ and it's a myth that Fields can evade sacks. He was sacked at the same rate as Russ.
No one said the offense was great under Fields. But the Steelers were moving the ball because they were converting the 3rd- and 4th-and-1s with Fields. Russ can't even fall forward for a yard correctly. Just because they happen to have the same sack percentage doesn't tell the whole story. Anybody with eyeballs who watched the first six games can remember several sure sacks by unblocked defenders evaded by Fields. How often does that happen with Russ?
Russ at least brought in the deep ball as a possibility. That is more of a constant threat than Fields occasional runs.
Fields had a number of deep passes completed that were called back by penalties. Maybe you have a faulty memory and can't recall those.
Russ is probably about #8 on the list of reasons the offense has struggled late in the season. The OL is the main reason and it doesn't magically get better with Fields at QB. The WRs don't start getting open with Fields at QB.

The steelers didn't exactly lean into RPO when Fields was in there. Russ is the best option to win now with this offense. Fields is just hoping for broken plays.
Newsflash: Russ hasn't been winning shlt lately. He's lost 4 in a row without scoring more than 17 points in any game. The Bengals passing defense was 24th in the league. He scored 44 points the first time against them with little dump-off passes. They adjusted, took those cheap yards away, and you get last night's result: 148 yards and a 78.4 passer rating. Pathetic.

anyone of us could think up some creative plays that would do better than what we saw tonight.

How is Justin Fields sitting on the sideline for most of the year. Wouldnt you take a couple days and draw up some fields packages to use him.. If i were the OC i would have been drawing this up in August.
Also the 3 games in 11 days. I would have had game plans done up a long time ago.

Again, no strong use of 21 or 22 personell. Flood those line backers. We have great receiving running backs and Tight Ends.

Honestly the defense did pretty well against the best QB and WR in the game. Had decent pressure. Thank god cincy cant run. Special teams werent really special except for haywards recovery.
Cant understand an offense that gets worse as time goes on instead of getting better.

Fields didn't fit the scheme. It's difficult to fit the scheme to the players, just ask any coach that's working at a hardware store or Mike,,,,,Smith

The O-line is sub-par. We can't even entertain thinking about a playoff run with this current lineup. When they played sub-par teams they looked effective...when they played above-average/elite teams they got exposed.

The good news is that we won't have two rookies starting next season (hopefully) and our Tackles have a chance to assert themselves for an entire season at their natural positions.

That's about as far as I can go right now. Until we have above-average O-line play I don't know **** about this team.

Difference in the game was the FG Tomlin gave them at the end of the half with the stupid 4th down attempt.
Yeah he still doesnt get when to be aggressive and when to be conservative...

Aside from the opening drive, the defense played pretty well. Held one of the hottest offenses in the league to 19 points.
Agreed....

Trice could be a really good player in the future. If he keeps developing, they will have 2 starting CBs with length outside.
Yeah... If he stays healthy, Trice could be a starter

The OL has gone backwards. Smith needs to gameplan around having a crappy OL. They should go 3 WR (Pickens, Williams, Austin) plus Muth as the base offense. Give Russ quick throw options. How about some plays with Pickens and Williams both going deep with Austin and Muth over the middle on shorter routes?
Yes... wanting to be a run first team doesnt matter if you arent good at it... all they do is put themselves in a hole every game

Warren got 6 carries. The RB rotation makes no sense at all. Are they holding out Warren so they can low ball him with a contract offer in the offseason? That's the only thing that makes sense to me.
Warren is a RFA, not a UFA... they have all the leverage
I think they are trying to keep Najeh happy in a contract season... for some absurd reason

Patterson should only see the field if Najee or Warren is injured and one of them needs a breather. That's it. Najee returned to the game and they put in Patterson for no apparent reason in a key moment.
Patterson was a really nice idea, but he isnt what he was and should be a cap casualty next year for a younger back or wr

Pickens needs to be traded in the offseason. Can't operate with a guy who needs to be constantly handled like a child. Get what you can and move on. This draft is not great at WR so you may get good compensation for him.
I disagree... pickens is an immature guy, but he is still super young... pair him with a mature star WR to steer him... cutting bait all the time is counterproductive... develop the dude...

They need to figure out LT. Moore is fine as a backup but he needs help as a starter. Hopefully Fautanu is the answer at RT or LT and Broderick JOnes can still be saved.
Jones needs to start next year at LT... let Moore walk... someone might overpay him and get us a comp pick... a backup T that wont play RT isnt great

Pat Meyer probably needs to be fired as OL coach.
Hallelujah, Amen! The guy teaches a weird technique and its not working at the nfl level like he hopes it would... this line is young... it should be paired with an established OL guy who can get more out of them

Steelers aren't winning the Super Bowl but if they can get it together for 1 week and knock out the Ravens, it would make it a satisfying season.
Honestly, its what I am hoping for

Whether it is a good look or not is immaterial. It's just blowing off anger and it doesn't matter if it hurts anybody's feelings .
Sure it is important, relevant. Behavior or lack of it in life is always relevant to how others view you. People lose jobs every day in this day of age for just saying the wrong thing on social media, not choosing their words wisely.

Personally I don’t care for fans who wish injury or death on others. Many others don’t care for it either which as a collective group makes it important. If it had little importance there wouldn’t be a board rule in place. Go act like a tool in your day to days and see if that ends up being immaterial to you. Good luck with that.

Tomlin is a Moron!

Arthur Smith is an Imbecile!

Teryl Austin - Has gotta go!

Russell Wilson doesn't have what it takes to be the Steelers starting QB! His accuracy is not good! And we saw him regress as the season went on!

Why did we not see Justin Fields at all the entire game. Could have used him on 3rd & 4th down in the 2nd Quarter when they need 1/2 yard for a first down!

George Pickens - This guy is not a #1 WR in the NFL. Not even close!

Calvin Austin - Where r you?

Dan Moore was god awful tonight!
Other than that we did OK.

Game was right there to steal…

The STEELERS can’t even STEAL right…
Last 4 games meant nothing. Tomlin will have this team ready next weekend....regardless of who we will be playing!!!! Won't be any need to steal any games!!!! SB bound!!!!!

I was 45 mins from Pittsburgh at the in laws house during the Chiefs game, I had mentioned driving to the stadium to kick the **** out of an official at halftime. That's about as violent as I'd want to do, and even then I'd most likely just yell like a crazy person at him. Good call on the post being over the line, we all love our Steelers, but life is much bigger than football.

Joe

My only question is outside of Troy Aikman, who else will call out Tomlin’s philosophy?
Locally? A growing majority of reporters and radio hosts. Nationally, I think a few analysts are just starting to realize what we've known or years.

The offense doesnt "try" till desperation times. We ran every single time on 1st and almost every time on 2nd till the middle of the 4th. Once we went hurry up the offense looked totally different. I feel bad for the players. By the time we open up it leaves 0 room for error. We need to come out in the playoffs throwing w/ some tempo. Leaving Trice on Chase w/ no help was just plain asinine. Porter was doing a good job, but on the last 4th and 3 they had Trice over there again?!? Luckily we got early pressure and a shoestring sack. Before the half I was fine going for it, but they ran a wide slow developing run and it ended up being a 3-6 point swing which ended up being the difference in the game. Dan Moore was being abused this game and they did not seem to give him much help. The offensive "gameplanning" is just hot garbage. If they stick w/ the status quo they are going to get blown out.

It takes a long time because most folks have very short memories. Which is wonderful for the casual fan or outsiders like the TV talking heads who don't really follow the team.

They still have the Steelers stamped as a tough hard nosed football team. That's been long gone. It's only in memory and movies from the past now.

The rest of us suffer. Many of us have watched the team win superbowl championships going clear back to the 1970's.

Even the apologists secretly know that the problem with this team is that Mikey insists on being the smartest guy in the room.
I do not like Aikman, but I give him credit for being brutally honest on a prime time game. Even the half-time commentators were critical. What has been really bothering me lately is Tomlin is taking 0 responsibility for what is going on. If Tomlin isnt being involved w/ the game planning and what not then why is he even here. I said in the game thread that if he doesnt like what he sees on the field he needs to correct it. I think we ran the toss play 4-5 times again last night and I dont think we got a single yard. We ran on first every time, Dan Moore was getting abused, Trice was getting abused. All of those could have been in game adjustments and some of them have been on going issues. I just do not get it?

Starts with the owner! My question to him would be… What are your intentions!
Is the priority to build a SB contender or just continue throwing darts?
This has become beyond ridiculous with changing players every season but with the very same results,
Art should have gotten rid of Tomlin after the Jaguars home playoff loss. That was the time to steer this club in a new direction.
Forget playoffs! This team couldn’t even take advantage of a bad Bengal’s defense.
This time next year, same **** trust me.
A-Hole 2 had absolutely no problem interfering with the team and telling Daddy's coach that he needs to win a Championship, which he did the very next season. He rewarded that coach by not extending him in the final year of his contract. Now the standards have changed it is not winning a championship game, its can we a non losing season.

I am done until the organization dumps its failed, pathetic, standard lowering, 3rd generation leadership.

Watching the Bungals celebrate and the social media laughing at the organization and its players, Mr Rooney are you watching or do you care.
The fans at game, reaction told it all,, boos boos and then we get in the game cheers wanting something, frustration all over the place. Steelers fall on their faces as usual, to late in game to get it done.
Then Aikman call of how bad Steelers atmosphere is.

Does it matter who we play this Steeler group just seems non motivated

My wife was asking me about Tomlin's contract. I told her he just got a new 3 year deal. She later asked, just what does he have to do to get fired? I told her, kill somebody, I guess.

But we know that isn't the case since he has murdered the Steelers franchise and been rewarded for doing so.

Oh but I am sure he would be "scooped up" by some other NFL franchise if the Steelers were dumb enough to fire him! Announcers have told me so numerous times!! He is loved by the players! And never had a losing season!

What is with you fans, only happy with a SB win? Pffft, and risk the "No Losing Season" trophy?!?!? You crazy.

I’ve never seen a coach look so confused on the sidelines. No clipboard, no play call sheet. Just that stare like he’s trying to not **** his pants at the bus stop

It seemed to me going into the 2nd quarter that the offensive game plan seemed to be go ultra conservative and play not to overplay. It seemed like the main objective up until the 4th quarter.
The personnel packages are way too predictable. Van Jefferson is a good blocking receiver, but he doesn’t scare anyone in the passing game.
Mike Williams first catch in a while should’ve kept him in the game more. He needs to be in more next week. Nobody is scared of 14,19, and 11. It needs to be 14, 19, and 18 when you’re trying to be aggressive.
End the crack toss plays-especially with 22.
I liked 27 last night. He did a good job once he settled down and played him man to man. For some reason, they had him play zone the rest of the game and Chase just ate that up.
97 is playing lights out.
65 needs to not be signed again.
77 fared better against Hendrickson, Hendrickson made 65 his bi tch.
I get 84 needed to spell Warren when 22 went out of the game, they need to give up on that assignment. He doesn’t block well. Get 83 some HB reps and have him as the 3rd/emergency back. The guy had a descent career at Michigan. Would clearly be better than Patterson at this stage of the game.
I think we will see Holcomb next week. Hopefully he will help reinforce the middle. If he can take the green dot back from 6-perhaps we can see better play from 6 (not that he played bad) taking the stress of setting the defense off of him may help improve his game.
Arty Smith, you need to be aggressive. You shown an aggressive tendency when Russ came in and went away from it and played Martyball. Get Russ or Justin or whoever into an early rhythm, get your receivers warmed up and involved early.
