Initial Thoughts on raven Game

I knew the offense was going to be crap when Tomlin implied the Ravens pass d was good, people just passed more than they ran on them...

The Ravens D let guys free over the middle all year long and didnt make plays on the ball if you threw at them...

We just play with too much caution vs these teams... you cant just run every first down in the red zone
Did he really???? Did he not notice the Ravens D is 28th ranked in YPA (and about 22nd on TD per attempt)? That suggests teams pass more on the Ravens because their pass D is not good, not their passing stats are bad because teams pass more on them.

I know others have mentioned and I know I did during the game a few times but where was Mike Williams? I saw him get a few snaps in the 2nd half but nothing else. Why? He is supposed to be our WR2 and we need him to be. Most other WR's that have been traded get a few snaps their 1st game and the much more in their 2nd with a new team and then almost full reps in the 3rd game. Is Tomlin living in his fears on this one? Get him in the games and throw it to him. He must have learned a bunch of the plays already.

I thought the Defense played the most disciplined team Defensive game I have seen in years. They played containment. They created TO’s. You’re not going to get a SO against the Ravens. They have put up a lot of points this season. Great game D. And kudos to the coaches for the game planning on D.

Special Teams…..The Boz is in a league of his own.

I thought the opposite with the offense. I thought the play calling was horrible. Why not use our TE’s more in the middle! When we do it’s successful. I just don’t get it. Why not have some quick hitting slants to Calvin? Why did we not have Mike Williams spread out wide. I’m not sure what he can do yet. But I know what Van Jefferson can do. That drop for a first was humongous.
Austin is not the answer outside unless we are doing 5 Wide.
I thought Russ was average at best. Yes he had a couple nice throws. That int was absolutely ridiculous for a smart vet.
If it wasn’t for the TO’s created by the D and the incredible game the Refs had with the calls going our way we might not have gotten half those points. George played well and is really coming in to his own. Our run game was steady,

I was definitely proud of the D. They set up Boz’s FG’s. And I eat humble pie for thinking the Ravens would score 30 points on them in my pregame prediction. Thank god for the Boz!
I want everyone to go back and watch the game again.

Why? Because I keep reading the Russ didn't throw over the middle. The Rats played great defense over the middle of the field most of the game - they dropped 7 most of the afternoon and they took away the middle.

There were opportunities on the edges - CA3 should have caught that ball on 3rd and 1. Period the end. I want to see Mike Williams on those routes...

Finally, the Steelers won and they're in first place in the AFCN. Have a nice day...

Maybe he's still working on learning the playbook and timing w/ Russ??? I like his blocking BTW...
He had some snaps just no targets. Probably just that that he is learning the playbook and when him and Russ are more in sync then you will see targets.

They are professional football players just like the Steelers. Just because they looked like crap, most games, they have the ability to improve and get better - they should that yesterday. Russ still threw for over 200 yards...and the INT in the EZ - he just put 'too much cheese on the bread' and floated it over Mt. Washington...

I have been accused of being a Tomlin hater. I am not. I am just not super impressed with people who don't learn from their mistakes, and make upwards of $1 mil a month.

But, I have long said, and still say that I really want to be impressed by him. Prove me wrong Tomlin. I will gladly jump back on the Tomlin Train. This year is shaping up to be one year he can convince me to take the jump back on that train.

Yeap, They have very talented players in the DB room, that they hadn't gelled either due to scheme or bad play doesn't mean they are ****** players, and any time there's a rivalry game you know everyone will elevate their play, this was completely expected

I want you to reread what I wrote then. I never said he didn’t throw over the middle. He did it a couple times yesterday with great success. I want them to throw more over the middle. I want them to use their TE’s more. And throwing over the middle will open up the outside routes a touch.
And I don’t blame Russ as much as the OC or HC. We have not thrown over the middle or used our TE’s for years. Are you trying to say we use Pat as much as we should? Our Man Mountain,is finally getting a couple looks.

Like you said…I also said I wanted to see Mike Williams. Not even a whiff yesterday.

And yes they won and are in first place. If you think it was because of their offense instead of their defense giving them 3 turnovers in good Field position and the offense doing absolutely nothing perhaps you should be the one rewatching the game. Criticism of the offense is valid. The defense played outstanding yesterday. Period. The end.

The few times they did throw over the middle there sure was a lot of green grass.

CA3 should’ve caught that pass and Coach T should’ve learned those CA3 routes should now be Mike Williams routes. What’s Williams supposed to do? Catch 2 TD passes every time he runs a “CA3 route”??

One game away from locking it down after another victory!!!!

Initial thoughts for me is.....6 freaking field goals? Again? And as much as Boz won it, Tucker lost it too don't forget. It's one of those deals I seem to always go through with the Steelers. YAY WIN! Then when you really think about it the Ravens lost it as much as the Steelers won it. Whatever just keep winning but I thought this was the year that Lamar broke the curse and torched us. But the defense played great.

Noted and I did rewatch and reread your post. It was directed at you specifically...

Here's my take - ever since Coach Smith took over at OC - we've seen a different offensive game plan every week. The only thing that seems not to change is 'running the ball on 1st down in the RZ.

Why don't they use Muth more over the middle??? Our OTs are not studs. That being said, our TEs are staying in to chip block and that takes away those seam routes that a lot of teams abuse the Rats w/. Their OLB that played over Dan Moore Jr. yesterday ate Dan's lunch most of the day in 1:1 scenarios.

I am not validating the output of the offense yesterday - it was below the proverbial line and Russ missed several open players during the game. This was his first time experiencing the rivalry perhaps he was a bit overwhelmed???

Re: Lamar Jackson ... the guy is just a headcase vs Pittsburgh and KC..

He has tried so hard to reinvent himself into a good pocket passer after he signed that deal, and he has made strides, but he is still so far behind when teams treat him like a QB and not just a runner..

He might actually be better off going back to running 20 times vs those two teams, but he really wants to prove he can beat them with his arm...

Honestly, after yesterday the whole Ravens team may have a mental block vs us.. lol...

If they lose the Harbaugh bowl, they could start spiraling... that team seemed shaken.. hell Humpfrey just left the field with 51 seconds left in the game ... their fanbase certainly has lost it.. their boards are a mess.
Lamar fell behind a couple players in the Most Visibly Popular running and they are all distraught

Definitely, Williams would have caught the one Austin3 had hit him. Not just that, but midget & Jackson were having troubles getting separation, whereas Williams body size alone gives a bigger target.

Salute the nation

Who is this Jackson fella? He’s been quite all year, hasn’t got a catch on offense yet. Luckily he’s had a few catches on defense, where we don’t want him allowing separation…Action Jackson

Now that Jefferson guy (to the theme of the Jeffersons sitcom)
He needs to be “moving on down”
the depth chart

Would rather Williams or Skowronek at this point and park that Van down by the river.

All we are saying is
Give Williams a chance

That peyote is kickin in bro
