James Harrison Released

The NFL has become garbage. The Steelers always seemed to be more principled than most of the other teams. Then Tomlin brought in Vick. Principles no longer were at play. Now they cut Harrison at this point in the season after benching him for most of the season. Way to treat the one of the best LB's ever. I've been a fan since 72. The team I have loved for my entire lifetime is going to ****. I can at least vent about it. Give it a rest.

sorry. I just found the venting to be a little ridiculous is all

I believe in limited time, Harrison has as many sacks this season as Dupree. You were saying?

This is NOT how you treat your all-time defensive leader.

Is this the part where I post "11-3"? That seems to be quite the popular response when anyone has had criticism for the cadre of coaches this season (well, "11-2" before last week)

Truth is, it was a dumb move...unless there's something else up. The one thing I know for sure is Deebo can cover 5 yards better than any other player we have at the position presently. I am a huge Watt fan and I believe he will get much better. He isn't there yet. What I don't like is a bunch of us "fans" saying he can't cover and that's why he isn't out there. When Butler said it, it means something...and he did, kinda. We don't have our OLBs running more than 10-15 yards down the field covering anyone.

As for the Gronk thing, sure, he could be the ONLY guy to knock him out of his pattern BUT the Cheats already figured that out. They split Gronk wide, they have him run out of the backfield, they have him motion across the defense, etc.

We can't eliminate Gronk! Nobody really has since Buffalo did it a few years ago when "Footsie" was their coach. The ONLY reason he only blows up against some teams is because the others can't shut down the REST of the Cheats game. They don't need to go to Gronk. They have their backs coming out of the backfield eating up 5-10 yards a pop. That is their game. Sprinkle in a few deep passes to back the safety out of the box and go back to the dink-n-dunk to the backs and the crossers.

All I'm saying is, NONE of us has seen DEEBO used much for anything this year BUT the last time he was rated in coverage as an OLB...he was rated #1 in the league, not the team, the whole league at coverage at the edge position.

Maybe he wants to be home at Xmas? Maybe there is a plan? If there wasn't/isn't then my opinion of our coaches is worse than it already was. Ignorance is bliss BUT stupidity is forever!

LOL....5 yards.....Really....5 ****'n yards....There is zero reason to put Harrison in over Watt. Zero. Watt is having a great season. Dupree now....maybe but both our OLBers have been dropping into coverage so much Harrison just can't do it anymore. Let me say is one more time...." 5 yards "...LOL

I don't understand why this is a dumb move in terms of on-the-field performance. He barely played any snaps this year and looked very old the last time he was out there.

Im not concerned about what the Steelers lose. Im concerned about what another team could potentially gain. Most noteably the Pats. It is well documented that no one uses a player in a specific all be it limited role better. Personally I dont think Harrison could bring them much in the way of info they dont already have. You know all signals must be changed for a potential rematch. They cant be that dumb.

If he signs with the Pats he is hypoctite and **** him

I disagree Antdrew. If the P*ts sign him that would be the only conceivable reason to find a positive in the F.O. tossing him out like garbage.

You know, the reap what you sow thing...

What can the Pats gain? They know our defense better than we do....and Harrison is a liability on the field now adays in the pass first NFL.

I had no idea. Good for Bud!

you disappoint me, wig. i've been waiting for a good 18+ hours now with bated breath, to hear your take on how this is all part of the grand conspiracy against our beloved Steelers.

"the league made 'em do it, so they wouldn't have him as an option if they played new england again!" :bathbaby:

RAAAAAAAAWWWRRRRRR!!!!!!

Im sorry but some of you are ****** stupid. The situation with the Steelers was a numbers issue. Thats it. He isnt a cover guy anymore but he sure as hell is one of their four best pass rushers. You get in a situation where you are rushing the passer for sure and then he becomes a Freeny. They just couldn't dress him because of the defense they played and the need to use Chickiloo and Moats on Sp. Teams. And eventually the relationship deteriorated. What would make anyone believe Harrison cant rush the passer anymore.

We are relatively thin overall at LB. Our back up OLB's are Chicklo and Moats. Personally, I would still take Deebo over either of those two. We need one OLB to rush on every play (at least wee should) as rushing only 2 DL or 3 DL does not work. Watt and Dupree can drop into coverage. Deebo should have stayed as Watt's backup and situational pass rusher. He proved on very limited time in games this year that he can still get around the corner and even swing around to the middle and push the pocket back into the QB, causing an errant pass.

I hate to say it but this release is more than just about business because it does NOT make business sense to cut a player that is better than others remaining on the team at his position. What's Big Dan been doing this year? Absolutely nothing and he still has a roster spot.

OK, I've calmed down a bit on this Deebo thing. Yeah, I'm sure some of you are relieved. The reason? Social media, outside of us fans, are too quiet. You would think with as much respect that his teammates have for him that there would be SOMETHNG, anything on social media from them or the team, thanking him for his time, dedication and help over the years...nothing.

As far as his play on the field, he has outperformed all OLBs in his 40 plays on defense. He has 3 tackles, 4 hurries and a sack in 40 plays. Meanwhile, Dupree and Watt have 6 sacks in 700 and 656 plays respectively. They also have 26 and 33 tackles in the same number of plays. While 40 plays is not enough of a statistical reference to compare or evaluate his play on the field, IMO, his tackles, hurries, and sack in such a small number of plays is more tham double the statistical output of the other 4, almost triple really.

IDK, if he wanted to be home for Xmas and would respect the move if so requested (esp. if he wasn't going to play in Houston) but I believe we will see him back on the team shortly.

so the reason this isn't a permanent move is because....social media "too quiet"?

lol wow. . .

I suspect he did ask to be released. Again, you sign your all time defensive leader to a contract and then completely ignore him all year... He may want to be released.

Steelers didn't owe him playing time. For how much I love me some Deebo , if they aren't playing you there is only one reason. Especially as we know Tomlin loved Harrison. This is one time I think you be quiet and see how the playoffs pan out. Not whine when things don't go your way.

Concerns me that there is too much “me” on this team. We have Ben calling out his OC, Martavis pouring about not getting enough touches, and now Harrison bitching about playing time. That’s not a good sign. Who knows what else is happening behind closed doors?
