James Harrison Released

No one can "claim him," right? Being a vested veteran, he can sign anywhere?

All things must pass. The series he was in for Baltimore he didn’t look like he used to. It’s probably the best thing for both parties at this point.

In other words.........say it Falco........SAY IT!!

Strictly, linebacker speaking...I just don't understand what the coaching staff sees in Moats.
He's slow, can't cover, and never has had pass rushing skills.
The only excuse you ever hear for Moats being on the team is special teams, except he never makes plays on STs. I guess he blocks on FG attempts but is that really something that should keep him on the team? Can no one else learn that role? James is still a 10x better football player than Moats, it's not close.

Harrison will always be a Steeler Nation favorite, Tomlin has not handled Harrison words after Chicago game very well and placed Harrison on the b your a bad boy list. Harrison no matter how good shape was coming to the end, just surprised with two games in season left that they released him now. Is it Tomlin's way of saying this is my team???

So when Cleveland cleaned house with their front office, did the Steelers hire them all? This makes no sense to me.
Big Dan seemed like the obvious choice. Must be more to this. Deebo may not still be the '08 version, but tough to tell when he wasn't given a chance.

I just can’t believe he would sign with the Cheatriots

See, this is kinda where I'm at. I completely acknowledge that this isn't the same James Harrison of yesteryear, and that he hasn't shown all that much when he has been on the football field, both in the running and passing game. He is a shell of his former self. All of that said, his "shell" is a helluva lot more than anything that Daniel McCullers currently offers. If there is one guy on this team who is no way suited to have a roster spot on this team, it is most definitely Daniel "baby fat" McCullers. We hardly play Hargrave on the field for the duration of a game; where does this guy fit in? The field goal blocking unit? As much as I love Silverback, and all he's meant to this team, I could completely understand, and agree with this decision. However, I can't while that waste of space is still managing to survive on this team. Harrison can at least come up with a timely sack or penalty (see: vs Kansas City Chiefs, 2016 and 2017). McCullers is a joke, and for being an absolute mountain of a man, is softer than a ******* pillow.

We all wanted to see Harrison go out on top with the Steelers, but the fact is that he doesn't have much to offer at this point. He didn't play much against Baltimore, but was ineffective from what I saw and if he didn't have such a storied career with the Steelers, no one would even blink at this move. If he signs with New England, I am attacking him all game long because I know it will be a weak spot.

Harrison being on the roster this year has proven to be roster mismanagement. You don’t keep a 39 year-old player and then only play him a handful of plays. The Steelers missed an opportunity to retain and develop a young player. I’m not sure they aren’t doing the same thing, albeit to a lesser extent, with William Gay.

Probably a good point at linebacker. I don't think they missed a chance at cornerback. They found a spot for Allen on the roster and Sutton worked his way into the starting lineup since returning to the lineup.

I think that kind of was what they were doing, keeping him on the bench or inactive in order to play younger guys. Problem is a lot of their younger guys on defense suck. Would probably be a better team overall to cut Durpee and keep Deebo, but Durpee has more years ahead of him and this will probably be Deebo's last year regardless.

This news has broken my heart.

I hated when Franco was no longer a Steeler, ditto Ward, Polomalu and quite a few others. But time marches on. I wish I could do what I could do when I was 20. I hate seeing James go too. He was one bad *** Steeler. I wish he could have been kept on till after this years Playoffs. But I am totally convinced there is a lot we do not know about this. Has to be.

Pretty simple. I'm sure he wanted to contribute. All he did was get paid to workout all season. Play me or cut me. That's my guess. I would have just shut up,worked out, got paid well and waited for the playoffs. You just never know when someone is going to go down.

I'm shocked to read about his release. I'd thought that we would have kept him through the playoffs before his departure due to the fact that Shazir is done for the season and that we needed the help on defense. I hope that it doesn't come back and bite us in the butt.

I would've done the same.
I guess he was frustrated cause he wanted to help.

If I could get paid to workout. I'd keep my trap shut too

****** way to end his Steeler run. And if they have to face the Chiefs again in the post season, it'll be a really stupid move.

The team has always had a way of letting guys go.
If I recall, Polamalu left bitter cause he felt he could contribute.

******, yes.
But it's the nature of the game sadly.

As a fan I do think the team should've let James finish up the season, but there is either a rift or management feels he cannot contribute anymore

Pure 3-4 teams that are still in the playoff hunt:

KC, Rams, and Dick Lebeau's Titans. If anyone puts in a waiver it's Tennessee.

NE runs a hybrid, and they swap fronts. If they pick him up, it would strictly be as a late game situational pass rusher.. BAL is a 4-3 base, no way a 4-3 team pick ups Harrison. He has enough trouble covering 1/4 zone, he'd have to cover 1/3 zone in a 4-3. Not happening.

Always amazes me she. “Joe Fan,” thinks they are better at evaluating talent than the trained professionals who see these guys every day. I assure you, if James had anything left, he’d have been on the field.
