Film breakdown of first game. Mostly positive although he goes off on Pickens jogging and running bad routes.

It was a catch. Tomlin should’ve challenged that. Jefferson was good that game. I liked how he was getting in and out of his breaks as well. His separation was good. I’d like to see him do it again this week against the billsI always like watching these and I do think Jefferson made that catch...not that it was a huge deal in the preseason. Not a particularly strong endorsement for 14.
Week 2 breakdown. Brutal. Fields is late or wrong on almost every play. Takes off running before going through reads that are often open.
Didn't even need to watch that film room to recognize Fields didn't play well last week--though it did help. He just didn't make anything look easy against 3rd and 4th stringers. At some point I needed to see routine plays and for Fields to look like the best player on the field.
Once they traded Pickett, getting Fields was a no-brainer and even better that they have Wilson so he can sit and learn. Watching Ben for two decades then watching whatever we were trying at QB the last two years, I just want a guy back there who will drop back and rip a few throws. It's like these guys don't want to turn the ball over, don't trust what they see, or don't trust their arms.In Fields defense, his college offense under Urban Meyer was very simple. He had a lot of wide open guys. It was maybe 1 or 2 reads then take off running.
The Bears had no weapons and changed OCs on him. I believe this is the 3rd NFL offense Fields is learning. He's a project. It was smart to get him at such a low cost. He can sit and learn this year and then next year he can compete for the job.
I just keep seeing people say steelers should just start Fields as if he's out there killing it. His stats look decent but he's still clearly not ready. Unless you just want to go RPO, then Wilson has to start.
I wonder if there is anyone looming around always bringing that up to the forefront of his mind?Once they traded Pickett, getting Fields was a no-brainer and even better that they have Wilson so he can sit and learn. We need premium draft picks badly: QB, WR & DL just to start. CB, S and ILB to boot. Lots and lots of needs.I hope they both show marked improvement tomorrow against a very good Lions defense.
From what I’ve seen and believe me when I say I have no dog in this fight, both guys concern me.
I think they both hold on to the ball too long, take too many sacks, seem reluctant to throw over the middle.
Fields can absolutely make some spectacular plays then he follows up with two or three bad plays.
Very inconsistent, not good at reading a defense, doesn’t seem to go through all his reads. Idk, seems like same as in Chicago.
Russ imo will be the starter to open the season but don’t know how long he lasts. Be 36 in November with lots of miles on them tires.
Could be a long season. Keep them premium draft picks, we may need them.

It truly is imbecilic to expect much change from ANY player after 3 years in the league. I love the fans who say "But Fields didn't have any help in Chicago" as if that's it. Child, please. He is what he is; he ain't gonna all of a sudden read defenses. He can't do that, and has never been able to. And Najee will never ever be a Henry, he lacks the top end speed and feel on where to run. Child please.I love how people think a 25 year old Fields is suddenly gonna "Learn to read defenses" or "Process the field quicker"
What do you think the guy has been trying to do his entire football career?
The same people that thought DJ was suddenly gonna learn to catch or Harris was gonna improve his vision and quickness.
These guys have spent their entire lives trying to do 1 sport great, to think you are gonna see huge changes in ability is ridiculous.
They are what they are at this point.
Not able to post a link, it looks like this:I think someone posted the QB class for next draft. Not looking too promising. Appears to be a Kenny Pickett type draft class. FA doesn’t look good either. Who knows, someone may step out in college and surprise. Beck from Georgia most likely the top guy.

Tom Arth comes to Pittsburgh from the L.A. Chargers where he served as passing game specialist (2022-23). In his two seasons with the Chargers, Arth was part of a staff that coached the offense to rank fifth in passing offense (251.2 ypg.) and No. 11 in total offense (344.3 ypg.) over his tenure. He helped QB Justin Herbert continue to set records, as no player has more completions (1,613) or passing yards (18,134) over the first four seasons of a career. Herbert's 114 passing TDs and 125 total TDs rank second in League history – only Dan Marino (142) and Josh Allen (135) registered more, respectively, over their first four seasons in the NFL.
Arth also brings nine years of collegiate head coaching acumen and three seasons of NFL playing experience to the offensive staff. He spent three years (2019-21) as the head coach at the University of Akron following two seasons (2017-18) at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The first four years of Arth's nine-year run as a collegiate head coach were spent at the helm of his alma mater, John Carroll University (2013-16).
Imo Beck is the only QB I’d want. I’m sure if his season goes well he’s will be a top three pick.It truly is imbecilic to expect much change from ANY player after 3 years in the league. Not able to post a link, it looks like this:
Carson Beck, GA - probably too rich for our blood.
Quinn Ewers, TX - ditto.
Sanders, CO - not worth the headaches that comes with this kid, unrelenting spotlight that only Deion's kid can produce.
Milroe, AL, might be what we are realistically looking at. Has it all athletically, but between the ears? Questionable.
Weigman, ATM - could be what we are left with at QB. Has arm talent. Could produce.
Aller, PSU - QB from Penn State. Are we gonna be serious about this?
2 years? I thought they just have him for this season?Plenty of QBs developed later in careers. People forget that for most of NFL history QBs didn't even start until year 2 or 3. Free Agency and the salary cap changed everything.
Steve Young was awful with Tampa. He sat for years behind Montana.
favre got traded away by Atlanta.
Rodgers sat for years
Alex Smith took years to become a good NFL QB
Rich Gannon was a journeyman backup until he emerged as a top starter
Josh Allen was not very good his first 2 years
Jake Delhomme, Brad Johnson, Kurt Warner developed in NFL Europe
I can name a bunch more. It's not that QBs don't get better, it's that teams move on too quickly and they don't get chances. Lots of these high picks that lose their job just quit and go do TV or something else rather than keep plugging away as a backup. RG3 is a good example of that.
Fields is an elite talent and the steelers have 2 years to develop him while paying him peanuts. I'd rather put the effort into developing a talent like Field who could become a great player, than giving tons of reps to guys like Pickett or Mason whose ceiling is mediocre starter.
Funny that you say that, but looking over the 2022 draft picks, not many have turned into stars yet. Pickett certainly has not and he's what, 26 years old now? Walker never materialized into the star he was supposed to. Mack Jones has been on playing for the Jags now, I didn't' know where he went.Got it, it's good to know that no QB in nfl history has ever improved into a quality starter at age 25 or beyond. Would be interested to know what the ages are for all of the other positions too. Please educate me.
