I just read an article that Cousins structured his contract to ensure that he will become an unrestricted free agent come 2024 and wants to test the waters. If Pickett is not showing signs of improvement, do we pull a New York Jets and bring in a vet who has at least shown the ability to put up top tier numbers? Not sure if Kirk is all about the money and perhaps the desire to win a super bowl could sway him to take a little less. Our defense, offensive line, and running backs are better than what he has. They have Jefferson but besides that we are deeper at the WR position.

Until the coaching staff wants an offense that scores points instead of just kills time, I would not spend even average starting qb money…

Trust me, Mike Tomlin would find a way to **** this up as well if Cousins were the QB. He’d most likely keep Canada to call the plays and not allow Cousins to audible at the LOS.
This organization is a **** show from top to bottom and until this majority owner Rooney decides he has seen enough and realizes he needs to conform to the current NFL, fires the fraud HC, nothing will change.

Kinda surprising why everyone hates him when you look at his stats....TD to INT ratio is solid, rating is solid, over 4k passing yards 8 times...pretty damn good career.

But....The .517 win percentage may play into it...

I like Cousins and I have a lot of respect for him. Not sure if I would bring him in at the price point he may command.

I don't know if Pickett is or is not the answer.
What I do know is ANY quarterback we bring in will fail under this regime.
Pickett is not the problem and Cousins is not the answer.

Cleaning Coaching Staff House is where this conversation starts.
After that, then we can disseminate which players need contracts and pink-slips.

We have explained that this team doesn't have the pieces in place to do anything significant under its current coaches and schemes over and over and over again.

But the agenda must go on!

It matters not what QB on another team is capable. It matters that the current staff can't put either side of the ball in a position to be successful consistently.

Yeah Kenny is holding back this SB capable team. . Wow just wow.

Nobody would come here and think this team is on the verge of a SB. Capable of winning seasons ? sure.

What would Cousins give the Steelers a better chance of sustained mediocrity?

Jets and Steelers are comparable right now. Jets decided to try to let Wilson sit a couple of years behind a vet like Rodgers. Steelers could do the same to Pickett. Let him develop and learn behind a pro. Might be the best thing short term for us and long term for KP.

He falls apart when pressure is applied. But if you give him a defense to stop him having to comeback from some deficits I think he could win w bowl.

I understand what you're getting at.
I do.
But giving a rusted car with no engine, no steering wheel, and no tires a paint job isn't REALLY addressing the larger issues.
And I understand we're stuck with said car because Rooney isn't going to buy a new one.
But what is the point of wasting time/energy/money on a vet QB?
Just let our current roster wallow in misery until Tomlin gets bored and wants to spend time with kids/do TV.
It'd be awesome if ol' Rooney was as big a departure from his previous family member owners as we think he is and actually fires/doesn't renew Tomlin's contract without Tomlin's consent.
A boy can dream.

Look I’m going on record as saying Kenny isn’t the answer and Cousins would be a clear upgrade, but even I think you have to get rid of Canada at the very least to prove this. Ideally Tomlin as well. And since we all know that won’t happen, just steer clear of any good veteran quarterbacks. We need to truly hit rock bottom. It’s the only way anything might change.

Tomlin already can make excuses. Canada didn't work out, and Kenny didn't progress.

A real qb has to have the permission and ability to change the Play at the LOS. Mahomes, Burrow, can they change a play? Tomlin smothers the offense because he is scared.

To be honest that would really **** the team over. Nothing good can come from that. 1. Mason plays like garbage. Team sucks we have to watch. This is the best case scenario. 2. Rudolph does well and we win. Now Rudolph going into the offseason is an unrestricted free agent and we probably going to have to outbid the league to sign him.

Lose lose scenario for us. I guess unless we don’t resign him and take the 2025 comp pick. Then that’s a win.
