It’s no secret that the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to add to the QB room in some manner this offseason. Steelers GM Kevin Colbert has also expressed confidence in the ONLY quarterback currently under contract for 2022, Mason Rudolph.

Rudolph appeared on The Jim Rome Show with Jim Rome earlier this week. Rome asked Rudolph about his opinion on 2nd year OC Matt Canada’s offense and how well the offense fits his strengths as a quarterback. Rudolph commented:

“I like Matt…I’m excited to take that next step. As I said, I think there was some concepts, there was some things that Ben [Roethlisberger] had ran and been comfortable with for 10 years, no matter who the coordinator was.” Rudolph continued. “He was tied to some concepts and I think there was a bit of a mesh between him and the coordinator and I think you get that kind of leeway when you’re an 18-year future Hall of Fame quarterback.”

Rudolph expressed that he felt that Canada’s offensive scheme fits his play style well and he is ready to embrace the competition for when the Steelers’ brass inevitably brings in other quarterbacks to compete via free agency, trade, or the 2022 NFL Draft.

Rome asked Rudolph if he was preparing for a quarterback battle this offseason. Rudolph quickly answered:

“Yes. For sure, I think no matter what… there’s always going to be competition. No matter if we draft somebody or bring somebody else in. I’m never going to shy away from that and that’s an obvious component… We know they’re going to add to the room, right,” Rudolph said matter-of-factly.

Well you can see he is eager he knows this is his shot. Perhaps his one and only shot.

Show us what you got Rudy. There is no mistaking your preparation your approach is fighting for a start.

You have time in the system more than any other QB. It is now or never.

You have to love his attitude and approach. All I can say is if he never sticks as a #1 QB being a long term #2 is nothing to hang your head on.

AS for Mason, put up or shut up would be my answer to him. I think Mason will surprise but not to the degree needed to mask some of the coaching misshaps as BEN could do.

near 10 wins is possible but could easily be 4 with the help of Canada.

He's been waiting for this moment for 4 years...He better be ready, cause this is his time to shine or stay on the pine

And shine is a relative term, but certainly if he wants at least a backup future in the league he needs to perform.

What would be aceptable for a Mason Rudolf return the following season ?

1) Would 8-8-1 be enough ?

2) Would 10-6-1 + play-off birth ?

3) Would 9-7 skin of teeth PO win (browns 6- steelers 12) and 44point blow out in divisional ?

All of these scenerios would be reason enough pending on who we get this year but I don't think he gets a year three prove it.

I think it will depends what he looks like playing the games. They could win 9 games in spite of him or they could win 10 and he could look good. I think it could be a 7-10 if he sucks but not 4-13 like some are saying.

My honest opinion on Rudolph is that there will a total lack of Ben wow and a whole lot of that was pretty good. For all the awesome plays with Ben there was a ton of why didn't he just put it in Najees hands earlier. Or why didn't he just throw it to the TE standing wide open there.
