Minkah Fitzpatrick - Worth a high pick?

I see you're reasoning but I just don't think this was the season to do it. Why not have done this when we had the best offense in the league?
They've never done a trade like this before and they choose now to do it? One possibly great slot corner isn't going to help turn this defense around this year, if he played safety he could have more of an impact.

the point is all this site does is ***** about not making moves and now they have made two big moves to improve the defense and the bitching comes out full throttle....

Is he going to make Tomlin stop with the 2 DL scheme? Is he going to stop Tomlin from covering WRs with LBs? Is he going to force our coaches to get the calls into the game? Is he going to force Tomlin to quit playing garbage players like Dupree and keep them for 9 million? Fitz might be the best player out there, but he's not going to change the head coach or scheme

maybe he'll be the 3rd DL

the more I think about it, the more I like. we will probs be a 8-9 win team this year. hopefully more. that will put us around 16-18 in draft order. jj,burns, dupree, hood all missed 1st round picks. why not get a known starter that can help this year? good move.

Yeah but there's a time and place. I mean we just lost the starting QB... it's really odd timing.

I don't see the next Roethlisberger in next years draft yet either....of course I am not an expert talent evaluator like the rest of you

to me it comes down to keep trying to put your best team on the field or be the browns or dolphins and suck for the rest of the year in the hope you find a star in the draft....

like I said you roll the dice and take your chances....**** waiting for what might happen...

they finally make moves and you guys still *****

If this is before week one move when you might have felt like you had every piece in place to make a run. OK. You have a totally unproven guy at QB. Hell even if he can get them to Tomlin's magical .500 you could EASILY get a player in the draft of Fitspatrick's potential in the 15 range and you would have control of him longer. There are times to roll the dice. This ain't it. Come talk to me in April when you watch all the big names go past what would have been the Steelers pick.

Here is my take, as if you fuckwads actually care:

I believe he was worth the 1st round pick if he was in the draft NEXT YEAR, and we were guaranteed to get him at our pick. So, using that logic, say he takes a year to get where he is NOW, that puts the team 2 years ahead of the game. He would then be ready to go in the 2021 season, yet he is here and ready NOW. Is he worth a top 10 pick next year, who knows, but he is worth a mid 1st, and if by some chance he ends up costing a late 1st, so much the better.

If Fitzpatrick lives up to the trade, I will gladly watch all those unknowns go off the board....

But I do get the strategy. If Tomlin can litter every position with a first round or second round pick including all the sub packages he has a chance to coach a competent defense. Maybe they could drop next years 2nd and a 2021 1st for Ramsey to put him at dime corner yet. And at that point the DB's could provide the 7 steamboats for Bud to get home on his pass rush.

no I've already decided they are giving up Moncrief and a 4th for Ramsey..

The only upside I see to this is, he will have a full year in this defense and be seasoned for next year's SB run with a healthy Ben, hopefully.

But you are really not factoring in need. Lets roll the scenarios. If Rudolph is good to really good, Ben likely pulls the plug. If he sucks he probably rehabs and comes back, but you would really have to think hard about taking a QB there anyhow. People are ******** on Tua, but you could trade out of a pick move down and stockpile and still get a QB. Super risky move.

this has been a fun evening...if nothing else the trade gave us something new to argue about

good night guys

it's like trading a #1 for a second year #1 that most everyone believes was worth the #1....and you got him for the three year plan, at least.

plus moving up on next years fringes

as for him only wanting to play slot CB.....well...players with any future will say just about anything to get out of where they are these days.

am I right?

and he played all over the field at 'Bama at a high level.....and **** the 'Tide, I'm a hater.

so...build the D for next year...let these guys get used to each other....all in all, the pieces aren't terrible.

who knows?....perhaps Rudolph balls out.....it's not like he sucked in college, he's got his #1 WR from there on the team.....the O-Line might not be all that, but they are good pass blockers....there's talent on the O side.....you...play to....win....the game.

heads will assplode around here, lol...

would you rather they threw in the towel this season?

We are not one safety away from the playoffs!

OMG is this a panic move to placate the yinzers? Coaches trying to save their jobs??? Omg omg we better do SOMETHING!

Look around, we are officially in the cellar, we are in no position to squander a potential top 10 or higher pick, thats a HUGE risk

Really. Elbow surgery on a QB. I really think some of you kinda live in a fantasy world. Here is what I would like. Hopefully Rudolph looks like a solid starter with upside left. Then we ****** get rid of our coach, cause whatever fantasy world you all live in you better realize that if you sent Tomlin over to HC the Patriots he would find a way to **** that up surely.

Finally another real voice of reason. If they could have moved Tomlin for Fitzpatrick, I'd have been all over that. And I am totally serious. He is the most inflated value in the organization by far.

the best way to get to the playoffs is to win the division. with Landry, OBJ, Hollywood Brown, Boyd and AJ Green in this division, we need as competent secondary as we can get. this move helps

Tomlin trying to maintain his .500 status. Nothing more.

I definitely agree with you on Tomlin. I don't think Ben is done.

This move helps now. I think that is the big gulf on opinion here. I feel this was taking out a second mortgage to by a fancy sports car when you are eating mac and cheese at the end of the month.

Hopefully he can stop the run, Ravens will be running it down our throats.
