The issue I have with mental health screening and reviews is that any "mental health professional" with an agenda can deny an individual purchase of a firearm without cause. Also it is defacto licensing and registration. And those always lead to confiscation.

The left DESPERATELY hates the second amendment because it prevents them from imposing their will on the rest of us. You see an armed population will not willingly get on the train cars to "Re-Education Centers."
If this Soros funded movement succeeds it will be the first step towards another civil war. And it will be a dirty decentralized neighbor versus neighbor affair, Bosnia X Rwanda in scale. 2/3 of the US population will die in the violence and privation of the conflict. When the confiscations start rural areas will resist as best they can and they will shut off food and fuel to the big cities and things will degenerate from there.

.223, IIRC, is mostly a varmint round. The .223 round shot from a semi auto rifle that has the normal wood stock, forearm and barrell does exactly the same amount as damage as one shot from an AR-15

Balistically it's the exact same round. The only difference is the M558 ball used by the military has a sintered iron core. This is so the bullet meets the Geneva and Hague Covention rules on fragmentation of small arms ammunition.
