New Rooney Rule Each Team MUST Hire

How far do we want to go with this?
All the way. Quotas for everyone everywhere. The main qualification for every job at every employer must be your race and sex, not how good you are at your job.
BTW, that means 50% of players in the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and MLS will have to be women. Anything less would be racist and sexist. Oh, and 4% gay too.

So are you saying that the NFL should hire more black coaches and more white players?
I’ve always advocated for a Jason Sehorn or Charlie waters rule for the poor overlooked white secondary players. Nobody says they have to make the team, but teams should be required to invite a certain quota to camp every year and the combine to increase their profile and give them experience in the process.

Using their own language, as a counterweight to unconscious bias in the workplace.

People never wanted to equate or categorize Tomlin with the Rooney rule and the team’s progressive politics, but things should be clear at this point. Dan Rooney endorsed Obama and accepted the ambassadorship to Ireland as a political favor. Mike Tomlin had a Hillary fundraiser in his house, or his wife did. I remember when Obama got elected, and Mike Tomlin said “I’m buying what he’s selling.”

He disrespected Dick LeBeau by petulantly referring to him as “an old white guy” in his thin skinned fox interview years ago.

Now Mike Tomlin has come out and said that he hired Brian Flores as basically a statement and in support Flores’s actions.

Tomlin presided over the national anthem and flag fiasco several years ago in Chicago.

Now the team owner (Who seems to be perfectly fine with underachieving and not winning playoff games for the past decade) Has come out as the Vanguard of the latest evolution of the NFL’s progressive social engineering policy.

Congratulations if the Pittsburgh Steelers still represent your values. I suspect that for many of us, they don’t. Have a little interest in watching this mess and what these values have done to the organization and its reputation.

Of course it's all the way...because you are determined to make a fool of yourself. Mission accomplished.

You set up a strawman and try to verbalize it in a sarcastic mode when all you are really doing is making my point for me. Look at your own words in red.. That is EXACTLY the situation that exists in the NFL today with coaching, and the situation that existed in Pollard's time with players. Many African-American players WERE/ ARE better at their jobs. And because of the institutional racism of the NFL not ONE was allowed to play. All that mattered in that time WAS your race: if you were white you could play, if not you couldn't.

Since then it's been the "Good ol boy" network in coaching. African-American coaches who are good to great at their jobs are passed over for mediocre to sub standard white men. Retreads........

And it's not just the NFL, it's across American society. So yeah, quotas ARE the way you rectify those types of situations when the institution in question has had decades to be equitable in its hiring practices...(100 years worth for the NFL) and yet the same situation continues.

I get it..it's blatantly obvious you are one of those Fox News/ OANN types that just regurgitates racist right wing nonsense. And of course because you are, that makes you inherently WRONG on most subjects that matter.

Tomlin is coach because he's a damn good coach. And this team was never going to win anything till 7 retired. 7 had way too many flaws in his game to defeat better secondaries and it showed itself over and over . 7 was just there to keep ***** in seats. Anyone who knows knew we were not winning s**t with him at QB after 2010. He was fun to watch and he kept the profits rolling in...it's a business.

And if Tomlin wants to support Hillary or any other Democrat that's his business. That has no bearing on Xs and Os
Imagine if he supported Trump....of course that's not possible because to do so he would have to be a self-loathing minority and immediately lose about 100 IQ points. Neither of which is in the realm of reality.

Who cares? Just another PR stunt by the NFL.
If you look around the league, most NFL teams have at least one minority assistant coach on the offensive side of the ball anyway. The Steelers have 4.
So, the rule is nothing to celebrate or jump around in faux outrage about.
You are correct, but why does the NFL insist on this virtue-signaling rather than simply pointing out the clear successes--like you did? Instead of showing the "progress" they seem to relish the stance that must insist on affirmative action. At some point, some time ago, this became a ridiculous mix of self-flagellation and very bizarre messaging.

How many Ukranian refugees will be mandated for staff for next season?

USFL is starting in a few weeks and I believe the XFL is coming back too. The NFL absolutely needs a developmental league because after the concussion hysteria, the fundamentals of blocking and tackling are barely practiced. That’s why most teams can’t run the ball now,

Colleges limit hitting now too. You need a league of low paid professionals where they can actually learn the game. It used to be that the developmental leeague, particularly NFL Europe was focused on developing the QB. Now it’s the OL and TEs and defensive players that needs the extra development in a league where hitting is actually permitted.

You can’t hit in pee wee or highs school because moms (and weak dads) don’t like it. You can’t hit in college because ESPN has each player thinking they are their own corporate brand and should opt out of any difficult situation. You can’t hit in the NFL because they damn near negotiated practice out of the game. They’re all protected.

Hey what about these low paid guys nobody ever heard of in this minor league? **** ‘em. Let them knock each other senseless.
Don't forget about the existing developmental league. It is called the CFL and it has lots of crazy hiring rules, especially for players.

Not at all. I'm making a fool of you for exposing your double standards.
You can't have racial quotas for coaches based on the racial makeup of the league when the racial makeup of the league is not based on the racial makeup of the population at large.
So the players will be the best qualified people for the job but we're going to use racial quotas for hiring coaches?
I speak sarcasm fluently and take delight in pointing out double standards and hypocrisy.

Tomlin is a good coach but not a great coach. Great coaches win more than 3 playoff games in 11 years. Since the team has been all his they've never come close.
For the record, I would say the same about Cowher. Good but not great. Great coaches do not hire two dimbulbs in a row as OC's.
Team never gets to another Super Bowl with Tomlin as head coach. He just isn't that good and gets his *** kicked in the playoffs.

Burgundy,
I think what you are saying is that the league has gotten inconsistent in whom it designates as under-represented. This year's new addition is women, because the Steelers already have some.

This racial and gender-blender equity stuff is confusing to me, but seems a lot like the salary cap. Players and jobs are allotted not by ability to pay, but by rules mandated by the NFL as it crisis-manages some real and some imagined issues. It seems clear that what the NFL is working towards is something akin to the salary cap.

Each team needs to comply with floor and ceiling requirements based on $$$, gender, race and other meaningful stuff (favorite foods?)....both a salary cap AND a social cap.

For instance, if you have a woman owner, like the Saints, then you get a certain number of extra points, so you don't need to hire as many Asians or Jewish folks or whatever, especially if you like BBQ. But if you are like the Bengals, with a white Brown guy owner, you have to hire extra women and Mexicans, and have to stop eating chili with pasta.
These are just my first thoughts, and do not include climate issues, but I hope the NFL will quickly pick up on something like this!!

Exactly. You're either all in or all out with quotas.
About ten years ago the state of California abolished racial quotas in hiring for state employees when they found out they would have had to hire more white people in order to have racial equity.
Remember MIT and Stanford are having to find creative ways to keep so many Asians out. Lack of diversity, doncha know.
If you die waiting for heart surgery because the hospital laid off many of the Asian and Middle Eastern doctors and can't find a Hispanic lesbian heart surgeon, well that's just the price you have to pay to achieve equity.

Of the 3 playoff games he's won in the last 11 years, 2 were against backup QB's and the other the Bungles self-destructed in the last 4 minutes and handed us on a silver platter. Maybe we lost some playoff games because this guy or that guy was out hurt but maybe the Steeler don't win those 2 games if we're playing against the Dolphins and Chiefs starting QB's. That injury sword cuts both ways.

What are some of the crazier ones? Just curious

I never said quotas have to be proportional to the population or the percentage of players etc. And I doubt that is the intention of the league. If you have quotas though and I am an owner I am going to hire the BEST minority candidate I can since it is in my interest to do so. And in most cases this person will be better qualified and a better candidate than all of the "majority race" retreads that are given jobs based on their race and not their ability, or resume.

And I don't know what you mean by "So the players will be the best qualified people for the job but we're going to use racial quotas for hiring coaches?" What? Who thinks ex players will make the best coaches? A few will I'm sure, and they will be of any race. Still don't know what your point is though.

Herschel Walker has the IQ of a cardboard box and Multiple Personality Disorder. So no, not self loathing, but the perfect modern day Republican candidate.

So you are saying Ben only won 3 playoff games in 11 years? Thank you for making another one of my points. Fits right into my timeline on Ben after SB 45 2010...too easy..LOL.

I say that because the Ben nut huggers only give him credit for the good stuff...none of the bad that he was instrumental in.

If you want equal representation for coaches , why shouldn't they be equal representation for players ? What's next ? We need a tranny coach? Can it be a man that just identifies as a women , does that count ? It is all bullshit , you hire the best player or coach period. If I'm a black coach , now way would I want a job from a team that hired me just because I'm black. Quotas are wrong period, anything based on color of skin , or what sex you are is just flat out wrong.

I never said quotas have to be proportional to the population or the percentage of players etc.
Yes but I did. If we have quotas for coaches but not for players then we have not achieved fairness and equity.
We draft players based mostly on their performance but now we have to hire coaches based on race and sex.

And I don't know what you mean by "So the players will be the best qualified people for the job but we're going to use racial quotas for hiring coaches?" What? Who thinks ex players will make the best coaches? A few will I'm sure, and they will be of any race. Still don't know what your point is though.
I thought my point was pretty obvious. I never said ex-players make the best coaches. Mike Tomlin never played in the NFL.
i don't believe quotas should be selective.
I believe in using absurdity to illustrate absurdity.
I do not believe in fixing racism with more racism.

Ben never had a losing season either.
Here's where your point falls apart. Ben doesn't play defense. In our last three playoff games, all losses, the offense scored plenty of points.
Tomlin, the supposed defensive guru, owns the only defense in NFL history to give up 40 or more points in three consecutive playoff games. Yeah the O had turnovers but the D still allowed a crap-ton of points.
Further, most of us here noticed the defense falling off during LeBeau's last two years. Originally I attributed that to players retiring and other teams figuring out how to beat LeBeau's defense (happens to every defense eventually). But on his way out the door, Keith Butler allowed that Tomlin started calling the defense during LeBeau's last two years and for Butler's entire tenure as DC. Therefore the fact that the defense has become steadily worse isn't just on Tomlin because he's the head coach, it's directly on him because he was the one running it.
So basically I say that Tomlin is an idiot when it comes to running a defense. Not an idiot because he's black, an idiot just because he's an idiot. Last year's run D was dead last and despite having TJ Watt who tied the single-season sack record, pass D was 14th. Cannot draft and develop a DB, our best DB's have to come from other teams.
The only way Tomlin gets to a Super Bowl is if he does like Cowher did and gets out of his own way a bit, hires good people, and lets them to their job.
Will he STFU and let Austin and Flores run the defense? I don't think he can do it. (Personally I think if he wanted to hire Flores he should have made him the DC but they'd already promoted Austin.)
Team never gets to another Super Bowl with Tomlin as HC. I didn't say win, I just said gets to. He's had 11 years and accomplished nothing in the way of playoff wins.
Mark it down and promise you'll be mad as hell at me when I'm right. Or if you don't want to do that, then I've got $50 that says they never get to a SB with Tomlin as HC and $100 that says they never win one.
