Really excited to see Baylor Nimble Nose Tackle in Casey Hampton's spot a good relief for Cam through games next year.

I have hopes that with a more agile LT then Dotson and Moore can battle it out for the LG spot. Cole can stay as the vet C that leads the group, they can't all be green. We do need OLB depth, which could be a toss up between that and WR depending on who's left in the 4th round. I really wouldn't mind bringing a vet WR in the mold of Tyler Boyd or Juju as others have posted and drafting S,OLB or C/G in the 4th round

17. Joey Porter, Jr., No description needed Obvious selection if he's there.
32. Gervon Dexter, DT, Florida - Cam's aging, Wormley is nearly out the door, Alualu should be retiring... leaving us pretty bare on the DL. Immediate fix.
49. Darnell Washington, TE, Georgia - Negates the absolute need for a WR later. Insurance in case Gentry leaves. Best young TE room in the NFL with Muth, Washington and Heyward
80. Blake Freeland, OT, BYU - Pushes Moore inside, and provides a decade of protection for Kenny's backside. BYU rarely puts out **** OL.
117. Ronnie Hickman, S, Ohio State. Edmunds or Kazee will be leaving in FA.
212. Myles Murpy, DT, North Carolina. No idea how this dude lasted this long, but gives us some serious strength and youth infusion on the DL.
223. Riley Moss, CB, Iowa. Likely gone before this, as he should impress at the combine.

  • Really good LT from a school that blends great balance and leverage. Premium WR, great hands, superb #2 behind Pickens. Massive NT who is freakishly athletic. Edge rusher who had a very good season, an ILBer who can hit, tackle, cover in zone. Another massive, athletic NT because why not? And a possible backup QB.

As promised. The left side of the OL now features a huge 335 lb. tackle who moves like a TE and a dominant road-grader at G. Porter Jr. my favorite 1st round pick. Smith is a massive human being who moves like a 250 lb. edge rusher. He is going to blow up the combine - he reportedly does 22 reps ... WITH 325 LBS., NOT 225! Robinson a good safety, Reed an underrated WR with good hands. He is not a burner but catches everything that hits his hands. Nester because he is very big and reportedly ugly. Self-explanatory, I presume.

  • Wow, I took Porter Jr. in the 1st. Huh, that never happens. Torrance at LG right away, Freeland in the near future. A very talented WR who forces defense to honor the deep pass. An edge rusher and then an ILB, together a massive, mobile NT. Yeah, good luck running the ball or stopping the run against this team. Finish off with a solid CB with skills.

I can't see things falling like this but if they did....you can't help but take one of the top CB's in the draft and then transform the OL for the next decade. You also get 2 physical freaks for the DL/EDGE in Smith (the big NT we desperately need) and Harrison. The last 2 picks, eh, but they are 7th rounders. The first 5 picks make this draft.

I used the PFF simulator to get a different draft board. Three attempts. PFF hates all my drafts and all my picks.

DRAFT 1
1.17 Paris Johnson, OT, Ohio State
Johnson is built like a prototypical left tackle. I don't know if he's a guy who can step in and play at a high level, but he should have a high upside.

2.32 Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State
Value too good to pass up at this point. Big, physical defender will fit in well.

2.48 Mazi Smith, IDL, Michigan
Big presence for the defensive line.

3.80 Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee
Adding some needed speed for the offense.

DRAFT 2
1.17 Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon
Great size and reportedly excellent athleticism. Potential playmaker at corner.

2.32 Siaki Ika, DL, Baylor
Every year there is a defensive lineman everyone wants the Steelers to draft. Ika is that guy this year, which guarantees they won't take him.

2.48 Jack Campbell, ILB, Iowa
I don't think he will wow anyone at the combine, but he's just a good football player. That's what this this team needs at ILB.

3.80 Sedrick Van Pran, IOL, Georgia
I didn't intend to draft defense, it's just how it worked out. Trying to upgrade the interior depth with the eye on starting in 2024.

DRAFT 1
1.17 Trenton Simpson, ILB, Clemson
I don't want to go ILB in the first, but he's an electric athlete for the position and with thumpers like Spillane and Robinson, he may have the opportunity to shine.

2.32 Anton Harrison, OT, Oklahoma
Grabbing the best available tackle.

2.48 Gervin Dexter, IDL, Florida
He's huge and moves well for his size, which should allow him to play multiple positions along the defensive line.

3.80 Zay Flowers, WR, Boston College
Pretty good speed, has the ability after the catch. Feels like a Steelers receiver.

That PFF mock site is hilarious. Draft the best CB available at 17? "A-" Why the ******* **** is the pick not an A+ or at worst a simple ******* A???? Anyhoo:

17 Kelee Ringo CB Georgia
32 Siaki Ika DL Baylor
48 Rashee Rice WR SMU
80 Dawand Jones OT Ohio State
114 Jaylen Catalon S Arkansas
146 Jaelyn Duncan OT Maryland
208 Jaden Reed WR Michigan State

Okay, maybe the site dinged me for too many "Jaylens" and "Jaydens." Who the hell knows. I struggled with these picks since the site has much different rankings for OL than I think is warranted. Jaelyn Duncan is massive LT with great footwork. I didn't plan on waiting to draft him but there he is, so why not?

Ringo and Ika make this defense elite. Put Ringo in the secondary with Pierre, Wallace and (I hope) Sutton, hoo-boy. Ika is a double-team magnet, meaning Cam, TJ and Highsmith face less doubles. Rice a very underrated WR.

Draft one would make me very happy. Real high on Paris and Hyatt. I actually hope Paris is the pick but we'll see.

Every draft is a B- basically. Great LT, CB, DL, edge rusher, WR, etc.? B-

PFF rated the Steelers 1974 draft a B-. Steelers 1992 draft? C+.

A little perspective on Steelers draft classes. We expect drafts to replicate the 1974, 1992 or 1970 drafts but check out the reality:

Getting 3 starters is a very good draft. Getting a Pro Bowl player among the 3 starters makes it an excellent draft. Getting 3 starters, 2 who make the Pro Bowl and one HOF player makes it a GREAT draft.

PFF draft. Ranks players much differently than PFN, which has Gonzalez and Porter Jr. both at top 25 players and Sewell as a top-20 guy.

17. Paris Johnson OT Ohio State
32. Christian Gonzalez CB Oregon
48. Mazi Smith DT Michigan
80. John Michael Schmitz C Minnesota
112. Noah Sewell LB Oregon
176. Rakim Jarrett WR Maryland
208. Ali Gaye Edge LSU

I would love this draft. D'uh, I guess, since I made the freaking thing. But best LT in the draft, top-3 CB, best C in the draft, 2nd best NT, top-5 ILB, a solid WR with excellent speed and good hands and a guy who turns the corner and rushes the passer.

Yes. People don’t understand draft success…
Each draft is dramatically different from any previous one… a first round players in one draft might have been a third round player a year later in a stronger draft at his position…

And they woefully overestimate what the chances a drafted player is even ever going to see a snap of offensive or defense in a live nfl game… someone here was complaining about a seventh round pick we took… like some ridiculously high percentage of 7th rounders never ever see one snap in the nfl, and most of those that do are only on special teams…

Basically a first rounder is a 50/50 prospect and it drops significantly every round after that
