Unhappy with Manning's team being manhandled last year in the Super Bowl, the holding penalties on the defense are going to make this game too ridiculous for many to take. You watch that one of like five penalties on Ike. The receiver runs a dig on the goal line and is clearly a decoy. Ike uses correct technique of feeling for the receiver while looking for the ball. In no way does he impede the receiver in any way. Like a basketball defender playing zone, you have to use your hands to remain in contact with the person you defend while trying to look for the ball in space. The Steelers pass rush gets home and it looks like they will be in a good situation. Instead, first and goal. This will be a debacle of epic perportions.
With some of these QBs like Brady, Manning and Brees, you might as well just play rip and strip on the tackles and guess hoping to make interceptions. You will not be able to stop the ball control passing game like this
As a sideline gig i have refed flag football for 20 years. More than half of the holding penalties I saw on both teams tonight were not holding in any way shape or form. The restrictions on defense over the reign of Roger have nullified the stats of all offensive players. They are meaningless. It doesn't even resemble the same game anymore.

those penalties were painful to watch

problem is Eagles managed their team just fine with or without penalties

Here's the rub. If you do a running play, you run the risk of holding on offense and being set back 10 yards. If you run a pass play, the risk is now on the defense to not hold (5yds auto 1st down) or PI (Spot of foul 1st down). Due to these penalties alone, it will be a passing only league soon.

There's a reason why I don't watch Canadian football. Because I enjoy defense and the ground game. This league will become the CFL2 getting an extra down on a smaller field. Time to initiate the rouge Roger!

What I've been saying for years. If you want to see this type of football just watch CFL. The NFL has been following them not the other way around. The only difference is the QBs in the CFL largely suck. With these rules, you could see a guy like Manning or Brady throw like high 70s% 60 tds. Thats stupid. It would be like banning the curve ball in baseball and comparing stats to past decades. All of the stats associated with passing now are so meaningless its a joke.

I was at the game ..and have to admit..it was close to un watchable ..yes we were awful and I guess that had something to do with it..but to have a flag on the field every other damn play made it 100X's worse...Rog has put another dagger into the sport I used to love to watch.

What was the final count on penalties last night? 30? Unreal...and Unwatchable.

The league did a similar thing a few years ago when Manning got handled by the pats*** in an AFC championship. The pats*** were mauling the WRs on Indy all game. Next year there was a mass of flags...then it quieted down for a while...now the Roger Virus is out of control.

The difference there was that then Colts GM actually complained to the league which spurred the change. This year it's completely unprovoked (though still concerning Peyton Manning).

So, looking at the three preseason games, the Steelers have 34 penalties, eight of which have been declined. Our opponents have also had 34 penalties (don't know how many declined). Last nights game was 27 flags, it seems. Ridiculous.

Last nights game included 2 Offensive PI, 4 Defensive Holding, 1 Defensive PI and 6 Illegal Contacts. Painful.

When it is third and long and the pass rush gets home quickly and instead of being off the field, they get a first down due to a tiny bump, sorry that looks bad. How the hell is Seattle going to adapt. there dB's friggen maul people.

The only way to change what Goodell is doing is to boycott the NFL. It sucks but sometimes you have to do something extreme in-order to change what is right.

What makes you think all teams have to adapt?

the NFL product sucks ***. Only fantasy football fans will like this garbage. It ******* sucks.

I personally think it jumped the shark when pink became every team's 3rd color in October. Way to raise awareness about a type of cancer that NO NFL PLAYER HAS EVER HAS OR HAS THE CHANCE TO CONTRACT. I'd respect it more if it was prostate cancer month. I don't diminish the seriousness of breast cancer in any way, but when the NFL uses it as a BLATANT tool to pander to the female audience, I take offense to it. There are better ways to promote breast cancer than to have a violent sport that hides the true danger of playing it, try and PR it's way into a fluff month.

Then again November is Latino month. I have less of a problem with that.

If December becomes make sure you spay and neuter your pets month, I'm ****** gone!

But Rog wants female fans and he will pimp the players to get it. Prostate cancer effects and kills almost as many men as breast cancer kills women...and a higher % of black men than white.

Maybe if we could get fans everywhere to boycott 1 week of NFL football. Don't go to the games, dont go to the bars to watch the games, don't watch on TV, don't even go to pro football websites. Think he'd get the hint?

Never going to happen, but when the numbers decline all year, that's bigger than boycotting week 1. That's how the XFL died in it's infancy.
