Noooooo (Tomlin 2 year extension)

Honestly i think this might be a good sign. The Rooneys must be pretty impressed with what they're seeing in the team right now. If the team was looking like crap in the OTA's then i doubt they'd be so quick to want to resign everyone so I think we're going to have a really good team this year.

So Ben just developed all by himself apparently. Cause there are Alot of instances where QB flames out whether it's because of himself or coaching. Ben is not the same guy he was when he was drafted. He has improved. And like it or not the improvement has come with Tomlin at head coach. But of course the head coach had nothing to do with any of that.

Exactly ^^ Everyone has said that Ben is a better QB now, He gets rid of the ball a whole lot quicker and actually dumps it off to RBs when WRs are covered now. Something he was never able to do the first couple years he was drafted.

Just saw this posted under the Tomlin thread... Delete or move if mods want to keep them together.

Steelers extend Kevin Colbert

The GM was extended through at least the 2018 NFL draft. Colbert, 58, has been with the team since 2000 and has been GM for the past four seasons. Said president Art Rooney II: "Kevin's work and footprint on our football operations have been a key factor in our success."

Popcorn is ready :) Let the internet flame war begin ...lol

Colbert gets his fair share of criticism like everyone else, but all in all he's been pretty solid in the draft talent and FA's he's helped bring in too. Although i disagree with some of thier decisions of over looking players because they're not squeaky clean, aleast they're been staying out of the news lately.

There is no "I" in Colbert. There is an "I" in Tomlin.

I know how much stock gets put into what sportswriters say about anything around here. Especially when the sportswriter doesn't agree with certain folks' opinions. However, I found this little blurb from Dejan quite telling:

Tomlin and Colbert are virtually inseparable — philosophically and in terms of responsibility — when it comes to personnel matters, including the draft.

I think they should have tied his extension to whether or not Jarvis makes All Pro and Dri plays more than 25 snaps.

Since the F.O. feel so in the mood of giving extensions why don't they extend my membership here in SN as a contributor?

Roethlisberger was solid under Whisenhunt and then the first year when Arians basically kept the same playbook. Once Arians implemented his system, you could argue Ben regressed in terms of taking sacks and not getting rid of the ball. Haley now has him playing the best football of his career.

Say WHAT? The Bruce had about three apologists on this board and the vast majority wanted him gone two years before he got the ax, including yours truly. I was a little shaky with the Haley hire because he came across as a nut case in KC and his first year here wasn't good but I was willing to see what he'd do in a second season and it was greatly improved. Me and most of the board were pissed off at Shades, Colbert, and the Rooneys when they didn't fire The Bruce immediately after the loss in Cleveland and leave him behind if not throw his sorry *** into the frozen lake.
"We don't adjust our game plan based on weather conditions."

He had a hell of a lot more than 3 apologist. There was a thread almost as long as the Dri Archer thread about BA. Like I said, you won't find them now. Many people on here loved BA and his gunslinger mentality.

Maybe it had to do with the OC.. you know the guy Tomlin didn't want here? Maybe if BA stays (you know the guy Tomlin really wanted here) Ben is on IR or out of the game?

So now it's fact that he didn't want Haley. You guys will pick and choose what you want to believe. Post any story or any quotes saying he didn't want Haley..anything to not give him credit for anything.

So when exactly do you determine the team was no longer Cowher's? I can't wait for your subjective bias response.

I like the move, I think Lebeau presence and favotism prevented some players from being the field when they should of last year and the year before. This year I liked that MT action and acted like a smarter HC and let his job title (head coach, reflect on the changes he made instead relying on what Lebeau's starters were. We saw at cincy where AJ was in the slot vs IKE and IKE was supposed to press he didn't and AJ toasted him and right after MT went up to him pebbly said, your out of the CB orations, shortly he was talking to Antwan Blake who then replaced Taylor and did a good job, then late in the year MT had enough of Cam Thomas squatty slow fat *** getting pushed around that put Tuitt in as a starter and startered to give Mcullers more snaps.

With a stubborn DC who was just to emotionally attached to Troy and Taylor we suffered the secondary unable to stop anything on 3rd down.
I feel with a fresh start with Butler taking over we will see a more attacking 3-4 vs a passive zone 3-4.

The players that MT @ Colbert have added Tuitt, Shazier, Golden, Grant, Thomas, Dupree, Chilacko, will give Butler a lot more flexibility to use different fronts and looks to blitz from, all lebeau used since 2011 was the 2-4-5 and 1-5-5, he disposed the 3-3-5 which was so good on route to 3 SB appearences.
It should be exciting to see us using the DL to pass rush now as well instead of just clog lanes. Tutt and Heyward easily should both have 5+ sacks.

Who knows about Haley, but he did want Arians to stay. Here's a link: http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22475988/34496197

I'll give Rooney and Tomlin the benefit of the doubt that Haley was Tomlin's hire, but Cook and Florio (I know) questioned if Tomlin wanted Haley.

I have not been impressed with him since he has been here. For me it is always his confused look on the sidelines. I remember Bill Cowher getting fined for stuffing a picture in the pocket of a zebra that blew a call. Tomlin would still be standing around wondering where the sideline was. He is ours. I still do not have to like him. I hope the team succeeds and he is is considered a great coach someday, but I do not expect that to happen. I do expect 8 and 8.

He will be with a new coordinator this year on defense so there will be no blaming Dick Lebeau this year. Interesting how much better the offense is since Hailey has been here.

I think Tomlin's natural state is somewhere around 8-8 to 11-5 with a first or second round playoff loss every year. They will always win one game they should lose and lose two they should win. Some years better, some years worse. Luckily he has the Browns and Bengals in the same division so it's pretty much impossible to **** up enough to finish lower than second in the division and at least get a wild card game. On July 25, 2025 Coach Cool Shades will still be the head coach of this team so I don't spend a lot of effort worrying about it.

Tomlin so oft looks like a deer in the headlights.

I miss this look when things aren't going so well.

The only problem I have with Tomlin is that he's not Bill Cowher, I'd take Cowher back in a heartbeat....but that's not to say that the criticism of Tomlin is fair. I don't think it is.

Where did Nolls greatness disappear to in the 80's? His 4 SB's gave him a pass until the end of that decade when fans were calling for his resignation, that it was time for him to go, that the game has passed him by.

Lest we forget the repeated call for Cowhers head, that he could never win the big one. Cowhers "one and done" Steelers . The call for his head was just as bad, perhaps worse than Tomlins,

Tomlin is here to stay, until he retires or dies.

Yea, that how he looks on the sidelines thing is just stupid. That is how you are going to judge a guy? How he comports himself on the sideline?

Tomlin is a damn good coach. Sure he does things on occasion that aggravate me. But ask a fan of any team, and I will bet their coach aggravates them, too.

The reason the Steelers haven't done as well recently is their talent got old. They are in the process of replacing it. There have been hits and misses. But don't act like it is just a snap of the fingers to replace some of the talent they had. If that was the case, they'd have about 30 Super Bowls, cause hell, they could have just easily replaced Bradshaw and Joe Greene and continued to do so over the years.
