Observations from Week 1 vs Giants....

Well the first preseason game is in the books.........

First off LeVeon Bell runs hard and looked good in his 3 carries breaking several tackles and always grinding forward.
Dri Archer is going to be fun to watch this season......he's got the ability to be an electrifying player
Justin Brown made a nice adjustment to a poorly throw pass by Gradkowski as it was low and behind him but he made the catch
Wheaton looks like he's improved from a year ago...how much remains to be seen
Mike Adams looks like he just doesn't have it in him to play in this league anymore
Guy Whimper yikes with him and Adams backing up at the tackle spot this season I hope Gilbert & Beachum stay healthy
Martavious Bryant damn boy 2 fumbles tonight.......he just plays lazy. Needs to step it up in the next few preseason games.
Chris Elkins this kid is quietly having a great camp and in the 4th QTR tonight he played solid....I hope we don't let him slip through the cracks like Craig Urbik
Sean Spence nice to see the kid finally make it back to the field...here's to hoping he makes the roster
Cam Thomas I am not impressed with he's a blimp! Bring on the youth.....Nick Williams, Dan McCullers.
Dan McCullers he seemed to tire pretty quickly but wow even when he's double teams he's pretty hard to move for opposing linemen
Howard Jones I know this kid is a dark horse to make the roster but he had 2 fumble recoveries one for a TD....WTG Rookie!
Jarvis Jones had a sack tonight...didn't see it but I am wondering was it a dong sack or did he beat his man
Shamarko Thomas this kid is a missile....he likes to hit people!
Mike Mitchell boy he's a hard hitter saw him blast a guy on the sideline and I think he lost his helmet
Josh Mauro didn't know who this kid was until tonight but he was getting some good pressure at times

Started out pretty shaky. Got better as the nite went on. Good hang time. Would like to see a little more distance but the hang time is so good no chance for a return.

The 22 yard punt did not help him....there was a punt that was fumbled but I don't know if that can be contributed to hang time...............

I noticed him on a few plays....I'm sure he's not the only one I forgot to mention but it was a good night for him too.

Dan McCullers he seemed to tire pretty quickly but wow even when he's double teams he's pretty hard to move for opposing linemen

They played him too long at times, other than that the guy's a disruptive beast.

Have to see more..probably had a chance to lock up the job if he didnt start out shaky. Podelesh(sp?) Will get his chance to compete as soon as his baby is born.

Jarvis earned his sack with a nice inside move. And Zumwalt has a knack for being around the dude who gets the ball, and dropping him like a bad habit.

Watched the first half. From what I saw Id say:
Great first drives by the offense and defense. However, the first drive for offense was indicative of what happens when Haley calls plays. Lots of potential ends in a bullshit playcall that stalls a promising drive. Im left asking myself how giving more responsibility to the qb in the form of no huddle last year saved Haleys job. Yes the offense got good. Because Haley called the plays less.
The TD given up on the next series was unfortunately the type of play that happens when you have inexperienced players in big roles. There will be growing pains. Hopefully the general trend will be upward.
I agree with many of the statements above. The first team oline got a great push and looked strong. However oline are positions that injuries occur a lot. Lots of concerns about the backups. Particularly at tackle.

Yeah I would agree Adams is a concern, and I would like to see better performances from Bruce and Landry moving forward as well.

I hope the Steelers aren't content with going into the season with these concerns if they show to be consistent issues..................

agreed neither backup had a performance that echoed confidence.

I thought Gradowski was worst. Jones looked alot better in shotgun. Was pretty on the money during the last drive. WRs let him down.

Gradowski is the guy who will play and he was all over the place. Expect more from him hes a vet.

Jones didn't get much help from the receivers.

Suisham makes that kick and we likely win, then the final drive we're playing just to get into field goal range instead of Jones trying to gun sling downfield for a final TD drive. Of course that assumes Suisham makes the final kick.

I also think Jones played better than Gradkowski. I think Jones had at least 3 or 4 dropped balls there in the 4th quarter. Gradkowski was so inaccurate, he was missing wide open guys all over the place. It probably didn't help that he got absolutely destroyed on his first dropback of the game lol. He was probably seeing stars the whole time he was in there.

While Grady looked rather sub par; I don't recall him being a 4th round draft pick (correct me if I'm wrong); LJ, however, was drafted in the 4th and just scares me every time he's on the field...

Accuracy isn't a quality I see in our backup QB's...

My take from the game.....team looks to be improved but if Ben goes down at any point the season is a total loss. Those backups were awful last night.

I think when Grad was playing with the 2nd string oline against the Giants 1st stringers. He was wasn't getting much protection out there.

Disagree bermuda....saw several drops in the 4th quarter that could of been difference makers..

The offense will be fine as long as the O-line stays healthy, we only saw the 1's for one series - ******* Foster almost gave me a heart attack.

The defense looks slow and sloppy in the secondary as usual - we must have the slowest DB's in the league

I thought zumwald looked good anticipated the play well and has a nose for the ball. Pretty good for missing so much time
