One out of 10, down

We are below the league average in developing 2nd and 3rd rounders, That is where the strength of your roster is built and of course we are not exactly setting the world om fire with our #1s either.

The CBs the Steelers liked were gone..what were they to do take someone they didnt like. Someone they didnt think could play in their scheme just to say they took a CB. I dont get it. Just like today they took the corner from the Cowboys because they had prior interest. Just because there are CBs availble dont mean the Steelers think they can play in the system we play. Right or wrong you put a board together and stick to it.

Brilliant, lets keep putting out mediocre late round corners and free agents that can't play, rinse and repeat.

We are behind in talent development over all, but still, what is the percentage of 3rd rounders, that meet your criteria? Just curious :)
I can't say Archer will as opposed to say Archer won't, time will tell that one. If Archer fails, you can come back here and pound you chest all you want, it won't change the fact, he was drafted in the 3rd. Right or wrong, I'll still be supporting the Steelers.

Rumor has it if Gilbert or Fuller were there at 15 we would of took one of them.

Why should I pound my chest if Archer fails ? I am a Steeler fan not a n Artcher fan, etc. I want every Steeler to do well but again go back and look at the last 8 drafts under Tomlin and see how poorly we have done in the 2nd and 3rd round getting players to produce and then resigning them to the important 2nd contract. This is why we have little depth and a lot of mediocre starters.

Fully agree, and glad to hear yaz a Steelers fan !!!! Because of our piss poor drafting and misses at the 2/3/4 levels, we are here today, short handed. Ultimately, someone will figure out the fix.

Over the Cbs or after they were gone over Shazier?

Over shazier, but I did not look at him at all before the draft. Seems like a nice find, but I really wanted a quality CB.

Definitely over Gilbert and probably over Fuller.

Justifully so :)

I think that they would have taken Gilbert, but glad that they didn't after watching Gilbert the last two Browns games. He couldn't tackle me. He seems to have no idea what to do when confronted with a receiver or running back to tackle - he just weekly flails at them as they go by. A matchup we should be able to exploit in game 1.

Based on the above ^^ list of 2nd and 3rd rounders...I think Archer and Bryant have an over/under at 1+TD. Manny scored 44 rec, long of 37 and 1 TD in his rookie year. Wallace, in a freakish year for a rookie 3rd rounder scored 39 rec, with 6 TDs. Maybe the over/under should be closer to 4+ w Archer/Bryant? In any regard, Wallace measured in at over 6' w 1/8" larger hands than Archer and only 3/8 longer arms DESPITE being nearly 5" and 20# heavier

Great analysist, thanks. I think if Archer scores 4 TD, with 4plays over 40, for a rookie he did alright.

Sanders was hurt his rookie year. So we should expect Archer to out perform Sanders right? In 4 years Sanders had 161 Rec. for 2030 yards. 11 TDs. 12.6 YPR. in 4 years while being hurt over half the time. These are the numbers of a guy almost everybody wanted gone. So Archer should have no problem beating those numbers in 4 years.

I also have no idea why you are still talking about hand sizes and arm lengths. Since Wallace has slightly larger hands and slightly longer arms should we expect Archer to measure up to his numbers? You really want to go there?

"because he has small hands and short arms"...why else?

So you want to compare his 4 years to Wallace? I mean since Wallace's hands aren't much better and his arms aren't much longer then they should be judged accordingly right?

There are no expectations for Archer. If he flames out, folks will point to his draft status and say, "Welp, it was a worthwhile gamble. Sure looked like he'd pan out."

Also a third-round pick, Wallace was slaughtered on this board. Selfish, drop-prone, disappeared in big games, etc. He was sent out of town on a rail. And he put up some of the greatest WR seasons in team history.

Nearly every single team in the NFL could compile a list of players that ended up with similar talent levels as that list. Plenty of second to fourth round picks just got cut who have been in the league only a few years.

Some of you people need a reality check.

Does this mean we can't improve? No, but let's not make out like we are worst in the NFL or something.

Wonderful, under the idiot we are now fighting not to be the worst at things in the NFL. Enjoy the fall, it is ongoing and going to get much uglier under the con man.

Probably one of the 7-8 worst-drafting teams in the league lately. Considering we were arguably the league's best until roughly 2007 speaks volumes to me.

2001 - Hampton
2003 - Polamalu
2004 - Big Ben
2005 - Heath
2006 - Santonio

Let's compare that to Tomlin's first-round picks. One star player - Pouncey, who is very debatable. And beyond the first round.. Cowher built two cores that contended for Super Bowls. Wake me up when Tomlin's attempts at a core drive us to a Bowl, or even beyond 8-8.

Is your contention that our drafting quality hasn't dipped drastically since 2007 or so?

Very few 2nd,3rd and 4th round picks in Superman`s list. No one with any sense thinks Tomlin has been good in the drafting ,certainly not up to Cowher`s standard.
