Penguins Offseason, free agency, moves around the league, all in one thread!

Olli is just 22 - with all his medical problems behind him I hope he can only get better - the Pens are not going to give up on him yet I don't think

more complete scuttlebutt

Q&A

- Thinks they'll trade Wilson/Kuhnhackl or picks for a Bonino replacement

- Cullen 75% retire, 25% play for Minnesota

- No idea who they'll be targeting, says they're being pretty tight lipped

- Thinks interest in Duchene is tepid

- Gives Sprong 70% chance of making opening night line up

Any insight in the terms and $$ for JS, Dumo and Sheary?

Jason Mackey: I would expect the three combined to be around $11 million, with Schultz getting between $4 and $5 million.

Maybe go Schultz $4.5, Dumo $3.75 and Sheary $3? Ballparking a bit, of course.

let the bargain basement hunting begin! I still hope that GMJR goes after Michael Del Zotto. He should be a low-cost Dman that can take over for Daley. Heard that the Pens are talking to Niemi about a back-up role. Also, Dominic Moore is high on their list for 4th line center.

We'll find out soon maybe - it begins tomorrow

Pittsburgh on verge of trading for Bonino replacement

The Penguins expect to lose Nick Bonino in free agency, so they’re in the process of finding his replacement.

On Friday, Pens GM Jim Rutherford told the Post-Gazette he’s close to completing a deal that would send a third-line center to Pittsburgh.

“There’s been enough conversation here over the last week that something could happen,” Rutherford said.

Pittsburgh won’t try to replace Bonino via free agency. Rutherford said the available 3Cs were too expensive to acquire given the shallow depth of this year’s market, something reflected in Bonino’s current situation. He’s being courted by a number of clubs, and is believed to be one of the most coveted prizes in free agency.

Yikes! Must be a VERY thin market this year if that's the case.

We got over $19M in cap space starting tomorrow....if they use $11M to resign guys like Sheary, Dumo and Schultz we still got money to play

they need a goalie, dman and 2 centers, among other positions they need to fill out. A trade is supposed to be on the burner. For who and who, haven't heard. Stay tuned!

I'm glad Bones is going to get overpaid and I'm equally glad it won't be by the Pens.

I'm not liking any of the high price FA's numbers

Report: Jackets offer Ryan Murray as part of package to get Duchene

The Blue Jackets have reportedly offered defenseman Ryan Murray as part of a package to get forward Matt Duchene out of Colorado.

Per Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch, the Jackets would also include another roster player, prospect, or draft pick.

It was well known that Bonino was not going to return. Weird that he signed with Nashville.

Per @NHL_AaronWard, Matt Hunwick expected to go to PIT.

Source confirms Niemi's headed to Pittsburgh. He'll back up Matt Murray.

I'm ok with Hunwick.
Neimi. Decent back up I suppose. A little eh.

Bonino to Nashville. I knew he wouldn't come back to the Pens.
But Nashville? O.o

Daley to Detroit.
Hainsey to Toronto.

Welcome aboard!

The #Pens have signed goaltender Antti Niemi to a one-year contract for $700,000.

Bonino to Nashville, Daley to Detroit,
Hainsey to Toronto.

Nick Bonino (4 Years, $4.1M per)
Ron Hainsey (2 Years, $3.0M per)
Trevor Daley (3 Years, $3.178 per)

Don't know a lot about Hunwick. But Niemi? Lol. That is a joke.

Know your market. 1 yr / 700K

At league minimum who cares? Every marginally above average back-up goalies out there got $2.5M+ today.

If he stinks they can waive him and promote Jarry or make a trade for another backup. The only reason they're even signing anyone is because they'd rather have Jarry playing than sitting on the bench, if Murray gets hurt he'll likely be the starter and Niemi will still be the backup.
