It's not that sad...

It''s a reasonable deal - he got $2M for one year

that said, Schultz had more goals than him last year

He's a playoff presence though - and Sid loves him

Schultz was the top FA on my board. Glad to lock up a solid 2 way defenseman. We will be that much stronger with Letang back in the lineup!

I also will predict that Jarry will outplay Niemi for the backup role this offseason.

Did some research on Hunwick. Guy is awful. I mean he is not a good defenceman. Would rather kept Hainsey or Streit or someone that doesn't suck so much. I get he is a 3rd pairing guy, but his stats show he is pretty bad. Hope the Pens re-sign Ruhwedel, probably gonna need him. A lot.

ha ha - Leafs fans hate the horrible Hainsey signing and want Hunwick back! He can skate, can score, moves the puck well for a bottom D pairing.

Hainsey was old and slow, and really really awful at times, we weren't going pay him $3M a year!

Maatta-Letang
Dumoulin-Schultz
Cole-Hunwick
Ruhwedel

Looks good to me

If Rutherford is satisfied, so am I

“When we looked at what Trevor was probably going to get, we felt that he was equal to him as a player,” Rutherford said of Hunwick. “Maybe a little different, more on the defensive side. Trevor may put up more points. But we’re very comfortable with Hunwick.”

Hunwick's advanced stats match up or are better than Hainsey and he's trending upward over the past three seasons while Hainsey was on the way down. He was also cheaper.

We knew the team would have departures and even though Bones saddens me, he was due to get paid. Pens wanted him for three years and he didn't even go back to them. Good luck in Catfish land.
I expect GMJR to make more moves and signings. Two centers are a priority. They got their lower cost, bottom dman. Not a sexy pick-up, but Cole and Schultz weren't either.
Niemi, he is what he is. A cheap stopgap until Jarry is ready. I'm not panicking. The core is still there. The team needs to add some pieces, but overall, I'm confident they will be fine.

I think Jarry starts the season for WBS despite a strong preseason showing. I say come Jan/Feb Jarry becomes back up to Murray and has a strong spring and a deep playoff run

Eight years? Terrible terms to that deal.

They can never buy him out or trade him

Pierre LeBrun ✔ @PierreVLeBrun
So $70 million worth of signing bonuses in Price's $84 million contract. Wow.

Well yeah, when you spent 2013-14 in the AHL and you were a minus 17 in 2015-16, you have nowhere to go but up. Just for reference, in the 2013-14 season, he was demoted from Colorado.

To a degree, I get the blind faith in Rutherford. But between the trade for Reaves, signing Hunwick and Niemi, I am not impressed with the offseason so far.

I should have been a goalie. Man what a sweet deal with so much incentive to do well....NOT..haha. That's like winning the lotto.

Building a team of the future around a 30 y/o goalie to boot

The Habs are nuts! Saying that, certain teams(TOR, NASH, TB, and CAR) are going all in to win a Cup the next few years. With all the crazy money beign tossed around, I don't mind JR being patient. I wouldn't doubt that pulls a crazy deal and goes after Duschene as a F.U to all the teams plucking our players and spending money to overtake the Pens.

ha ha

Leafs barely scraped into the playoffs just like the Preds, in miracle years with no injuries

I doubt even the Preds or Sens will make the playoffs next year.....one year wonders

Wheels are spinning

Wow

Capitals sign Kuznetsov to eight-year, $62.4 million deal

That works out to a $7.8 million annual cap hit

Capitals trade Marcus Johansson to Devils

After signing Kuznetsov — eight years, $62.4 million — the Capitals were right up against the salary cap, with only about $4.65 million in space and still needing to get Andre Burakovsky, a restricted free agent, under contract for next season.

It’s official: Sharks re-sign Thornton to one-year deal

oh Canada

Bergevin wants to bring back Markov, Radulov — but not for their demands

The Montreal Canadiens have paid quite a price to extend their star goalie.

Bergevin says the best offers have already been made to both Radulov and Markov. There will be no negotiating #Habs

I'm not impressed either and I don't "Trust GMJR" as many preach. Reaves may not be a bad player, but I thought they gave up too much for a fourth liner. They also lost a lot of role players from a two-time Cup roster and that is going to be very hard to replace.
