Penguins Offseason, free agency, moves around the league, all in one thread!

Rutherford seems to be on a Duchene or bust bent at this moment. Kruger for a 5th? The Canes robbed them blind. GMJR either has a certain person in mind or is asleep at the switch. On Friday, he said they were close to finalizing a deal for a 3C, that FA's were too expensive. Would love to know who he is supposedly targeting.

Pens should completely mortgage the future Pens and Sid/Geno get in line with the greatest all time teams if they win 1 or 2 more cups.

Don't need to mortgage the future to do that, only guys locked up for more than 3 years would be Sid, Malkin, Letang and Kessel....means we are made to shuffle/move pieces.

Meanwhile, if Markov is going to sign for one year, he might as well go to a contender. The Habs are a mess. Price is going to need to go full Hasek for them to win.

Be patient Markov.

yea, Hell, you mean Rutherford wouldn't offer a 3rd or a 4th for Kruger? Vegas knows the Pens need a 3rd line center. They could have gotten a better deal for him.

Probably thought he didn't have enough ammo after trading a 1st-round pick for a fourth liner.

Well, when you are the 2 time defending champs, no one is going to cut you a deal to win it again. No one.

We don't need Duchene.

Though I'm starting to think it may be beneficial to bring Jagr back for a year to play with Sid and Gentz.

it's not about cutting a certain team a deal, it's getting the most return out of your trade. Vegas cares if the Pens wins three in a row? They will be bottom-feeders for the foreseeable future gathering pieces and draft picks. Why wouldn't they want a 3rd or 4th from the Pens instead a 5th from CAR? Just doesn't seem logical, but what do I know?

There's no room for a 67 year old winger and I don't want him anywhere near this team.

**** it - maybe we should go after Jagr

Radulov at 5v5 last year: 8 goals and 23 assists in 1113 minutes.
Jagr at 5v5 last year: 8 goals and 25 assists in 1129 minutes.

Cripes, could Old Man River keep up with Sid and Geno? Sprong would score 8 goals in the first half of the season compared to Jagr's 2016-17 season totals.

One year at a time - the hell with the future, stupid draft picks don't matter, who can help us NOW?

Sprong may still be a year away from actually making the starting line-up

They need centers, not wingers right now. I just don't see a spot for #68 on this squad right now.

Unless they use Sheary as trade bait, they have a plethora of wings.

Who’s still left? Here are 10 notable UFAs

The oldest: Jaromir Jagr, 45, won’t be returning to the Florida Panthers. But he still wants to play. The future Hall of Famer had 16 goals and 30 assists in 82 games last season.

The most points last season: Thomas Vanek, 33, was reportedly talking with “several teams” on July 1, but no deal yet. Vanek split 2016-17 between Detroit and Florida. The fact he only scored two goals in 20 games for the Panthers may have hurt his value, but he did have 48 points in 68 games overall.

The most goals: Mike Fisher, 37, is apparently considering retirement. But if he decides to keep playing, it’s hard to imagine he signs with anyone but Nashville. Fisher had 18 goals in 72 games last season, then helped the Predators to their first Stanley Cup Final in franchise history.

The most points by a defenseman: Andrei Markov had 36 points (6G, 30A) for Montreal. The Habs would like to bring the 38-year-old back, but GM Marc Bergevin says his final offer has been made. The message to Markov? Take it or leave it.

The most right-shot defenseman: We’ll give this to Cody Franson, the 29-year-old who’s spent the last two years in Buffalo. Franson is no savior, but he’s not too old, and he was pretty productive on the power play during his days with the Maple Leafs.

The most Rocket Richard Trophies: Jarome Iginla, 40, is still unsigned. The two-time leading goalscorer in the NHL scored just 14 times last season for Colorado. He wants to keep playing, but it remains to be seen if he’ll get an offer he likes.

The most to prove: That would be Shane Doan, 40, after being cut loose by the Arizona Coyotes. Doan had just six goals in 74 games, but apparently some teams are interested.

The most fast (a.k.a. the fastest): Viktor Stalberg can still fly at 31 years old, and he’s got plenty of postseason experience to boot. The Ottawa Senators would like to keep him, and he’d like to stay. But the two sides have yet to reach a deal, so he may have to look elsewhere.

The most under-30: Among regular NHLers last season, 24-year-old defenseman Nikita Nesterov is the youngest UFA. He became an unrestricted free agent after the Canadiens chose not to extend a qualifying offer.

The most points by an under-30 UFA: That honor belongs to 26-year-old forward Alex Chiasson, who was cut loose by the Calgary Flames after registering 12 goals and 12 assists in 81 games.

I'd still take Markov for one year!

Our D always needs improvement

ouch, $4M for Sheary. That seems a tad steep. It's not that I don't think he deserves that per year. but I wasn't expecting that high of a number. Maybe more of Dumo's projection.

btw, I've seen that list over the past few days and still not impressed with it. I still think a trade is more likely.

I'd just as soon reverse those numbers, yeah, I get the feeling we're gonna trade Sheary

Looks like we got contract battles on our hands

Key players from Penguins, Sabres, Lightning headline salary arbitration list

The NHLPA released a list of players who are filing for salary arbitration during this off-season on Wednesday.

It’s important to note that arbitration hearings rarely happen, and with good reason, as they can be harsh situations that may lead to hard feelings between a player and his team. Hearings take place July 20-Aug. 2, with a 48-hour window for verdicts to be made.

Also, the deadline for club-elected salary arbitration is set for (July 6) at 5 p.m. ET.

I'd hope they can keep the guys they want to keep. Of course bringing in hungry guys who have never won a cup is also a viable option.

With all this young supposed forward talent just itching to get out there and skate with the big club---why pay Sheary anything near what he's asking?

$1.5-3 Million seems closer to reality.

I actually like the way he plays and think the Pens should make an effort to keep him around, but not at some of the figures that I've seen. Dumo we keep.

My thinking, as well. Anything over $3M is overpaying, but it depends what he means to the coaching staff and mgmt. He's a little spark plug and can score, but also disappears from time to time. He's a tough one to gage. He could be traded or kept around for another 3-4 years.

Sheary is a valuable player to the Penguins, but I don't think he's nearly as productive if he leaves.

That could be the case, for sure. That's why I think he is hard to evaluate. He's real good with the Pens and because of Sid, for the most part, but does he excel on another team?

Well, duh

He's not gonna be on a line with Sid if he leaves!
