Penguins *******!

Honestly, how can you say that?

If a Penguin takes a cheap shot and gets suspended, I will admit he deserves it. But with Rinaldo's past and his intent during the hit and his bragging about injuring someone after the game how can you honestly say that?

He is not being honest. He is admittedly trolling.

As for the Rinaldo hit, most of the Flyer fans I know hate the dude... he is a worthless jag off. this is his fourth disciplinary action coming up, well from the NHL... Im not sure he can count high enough to total all of his dirty bad hits from lower level hockey that resulted in fines or suspensions. If you watched the post game interview with his smug look and answers you get the feeling he was proud of his hit, which was literally a checklist of what not to do when checking a guy.. borderline late, charging, hit him high in the back of the jersey near the boards and left his feet to do so. My gut says since his last suspension for a bad hit all the way back in April of 14 resulted in a 4 games, that this one goes at least ten. The sad part is the Flyers will be better off without the honorless puke.

As for Crosby and Malkin... Id rather them take a break. Crosby has definitely been playing through something since the second month of the season. Malkin gets more abuse than most any other player cause the NHL refs A.) are mostly failed AHL'rs who hate star players, and B.) stereotype Russians like no tomorrow. Its borderline racist how some of those hockey guys from NA treat Russian players... and weird that it doesn't get called out more in this uber PC society.... screw the all star game... till the league cracks down on the nonsense that star players have to play through I hope no one goes... let them stock the freaken thing with goons and minor league pylons if that's what they want to showcase during the regular season

I have had the pleasure of having a couple beers with Stillers and his buds pre-game at Dom's tailgate. He is a good guy. He drives in from Philthy to see his Steelers. Imagine being a Steeler fan in Philthy? Dude should get congratulations for representing amongst those cretins.

He has also been very helpful in several "how to reduce shaving costs" threads. If you still pay retail for your damn Gillette product, hit him up for his Dorco advice.

That he points out flaws in the Pens the past few years should not cause angst. They deserve it.

Yeah, what he said!

Check out the foreigners bein' all stick togethery....

I heard he got 8 games for how many inches off the ice his skates were when he hit our golden boy. :)

Crosby Suspended 1 game for LYING about injury, skipping out on All-Star game.

What a shame. Crosby thinks he's better than everyone else and basically hates the fans.

Nah, Sid just hates the city of Columbus. He said he would have rather went to Philly to be booed there.

I don't blame Sid for taking the time to rest/heal. He's got nothing to prove.

I think anyone who doesn't play in the all-star game is ineligible to play in the first game after. I don't have a problem with it. Sid was on the radio saying he wouldn't have been able to play anyway, should you choose to believe that.

That was a helluva win tonight w/o MAF, Sid and Geno. So good to see Hornquist back on the ice and Perron is a beast. What a great addition.

btw, the rumor is that the Pens are one of the teams interested in Jagr. Maybe for Kunitz? It's also believed the Pens are looking to part with Kunitz anyway, along with his $5M/yr. salary. I still would do whatever it would take(within reason, of course) to acquire Evander Kane. If we could move Kunitz and maybe Martin, that's $10M savings right there.
Oh and I don't want Jagr. He may look good in NJ, but they are slow and mediocre anyway. He fits right in with them.

Penguins Acquire Center Maxim Lapierre from St. Louis in Exchange for Marcel Goc

Tuesday, 01.27.2015 / 10:02 PM

The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired center Maxim Lapierre from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for center Marcel Goc, it was announced tonight by general manager Jim Rutherford.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Lapierre has played 579 games in a 10-year NHL career with Montreal, Anaheim, Vancouver and St. Louis, recording 65 goals and 72 assists for 137 points with 570 penalty minutes.

Lapierre, 29, has two goals and seven assists for nine points in 45 games with the Blues this season.

The native of Saint-Leonard, Quebec was Montreal’s second-round pick (61st overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

The Penguins acquired Goc from Florida late in the 2013-14 season. He had two goals and six assists for eight points in 55 games over two seasons in Pittsburgh.

Not sure I like this deal... Goc was a hard worker, if not a huge producer. Admittedly, I don't know much about Lapierre, but it looks like they added some size, and not much else.

Very nice game.....no quit (well maybe a little in the 2nd) but great effort from that line up. Big, physical team in Winnipeg and over 100 hits in the game! Pens handled it well, good discipline. Nice to see Sill let up immediately when the Jet he fought went to the ice pretty quickly.

Perron will end up being the best fa acquisition since I dunno....Gary Roberts? With the added bonus of being young. Really like what I'm seeing from him....he split that D last night like Mario used to.

Greisse looked awkward and shaky......every other time he's played he was very confident....hope he's good to go....one game doesn't tell a lot.

I have to do a mea culpa.......last year I wanted Letang gone (pre stroke). I WAS WAY WRONG. He's having one of his best seasons......5 assists last night! Despite being targeted all night....gutty performance.

Thursday will be one year since his stroke.

Goc was a good face off guy and pk....if Lapierre can do those things well he brings some size and a little more of a scoring touch. But the biggest thing he brings is a little more protection for the stars.....not a goon, but better size and will fight. Read elsewhere this might be a reaction to the Isle's 3rd and 4th line physical dominance. Pens really need to continue to shore up that aspect of the team.....they need grit but it has to be from a dual threat 3rd , 4th line guy, physically intimidating and a scoring threat. Their division is pretty stacked with those and imo it's were they lack.

Lapierre adds a toughness Goc did not. That is all. Lapierre has been good in the playoff rounds, he has that much going for him besides the edge. Trade works for me.

Perron was indeed a great pick-up.

Lapierre is brought in as an enforcer. But he does have some hockey skills that may help on the 3rd or 4th line.

Pens playing Caps tonight on NBC. Hope to see our new acquisition, as well as Sid and Flower.

Why does everyone want Paul Martin gone? I don't get to see every game like younz guys, but the games I do see he seems to play pretty well. His experience alone is worth keeping him as injuries have decimated that position this year.

It's not that I want him gone, but he will not re-sign with the team after the season and he makes a hefty salary. I'd rather get something for him, if they can. I'd also be Ok if they kept him for the PO run. You can never have enough experienced Dmen.

Feel bad for Goc. He really played his heart out for us.

Goc would have been a nice 4th liner to go w/ Lap. I don't know why the **** we are holding on to Sill/Adams. Get rid of those guys before getting rid of Goc.

Adams is good on the PK. Goc was a non-entity in my book. They were both bottom 6'ers.

I don't think anyone wants him gone. We can't afford to keep him. Last year of his contract, will get some nice money in FA....more than we can give him. Same happened with Scuds years back. Had Maata been healthy, Martin would be gone by now. I think we need to keep him through the PO run.

no takers would be my guess and something tells me they are cheaper than Goc. Goc was OK. He wasn't great, but was hard working. He will do well in St. Louis. We need the toughness f we're going to have a chance against the tougher teams in the PO. The Isles and Flyers pushed us around and it's better to be pro-active than wait and grab scrap heap.

you must be correct

is this a championship line-up?

Perron-Crosby-Hornqvist
Comeau-Malkin-Bennett
Kunitz-Sutter-Downie
Spaling-Lapierre-Adams/Sill

No. The Rangers and Islanders run that very line up (minus Lapierre) up and down the ice every time we play them. Better get some speed and a willingness to work hard and make smart hockey plays. I mean, I don't think the Rangers or Islanders have more talent than the Pens, but they sure look like it. Guess that comes with actually looking where you are going to pass the puck.
