Pens Hockey 2021?

I will tell you one damn thing. As an Islanders fan you learn to appreciate really good coaching and how it seperates good teams vs. Cool shades 😎.

The thing that pisses me off most about the last few years is everyone talking about how good the Isles "structure" is....

If its so #&^@% *%$^good, how come they haven't raised the cup with it yet?!?!?

Seems the other teams figure out and beat Trot's "structure" but ill be dammed if the Pen's players and coaching staff can....
Well for one thing they are a pretty young team that is pretty clearly on the rise. And this isn't the ****** NFL where you win 3 or 4 games and become a champion. You have to roll 4- 7 game series in a tournament where every team is good and 4 or 5 are very good to great. Now there is a certain loss of offensive potential for a team like the Islanders. Barzal is probably a 35-40 goal scorer on a lot of teams. But compare this to say Edmonton who seems to only skate in one direction. If you keep the puck out of your own net (less than 3 goals per game) you win a lot of regular season games and are very dangerous in the playoffs.

Most NHL coaches for whatever reason turn sour quick. Our guy was great for back to back cup run and our former gm ****** us on really competing for that third. That time using that system has obviously passed. It's fortunate that coaches don't get to stay in their job when they have repeated ****** results. Well unless you're the Steelers HC. In that case you get a contract extension.

Very true. Hockey is a bit more about a structure but mostly about buy in from the players.

I don't see Sully being on the bench next year.

And all said and done I give the Islanders a 40% chance against the Bruins. They have structure and goaltending too. But they also have offensive imagination and a power play.

40% seems a bit high. The Ises will hit the Bs, but they will hit back. Plus, they have Rask, not Jarry. If NYI wins more than one game, I'd be surprised.

You are vastly underestimating the Islanders. They were a overtime goal away from game 7 in the conference final last year against a team that is a **** of a lot better than the Bruins.

My speculation is someone like Guentzel or Rust get traded. I think Mario will make sure Sid, Malkin and Letang retire Pens.

Better make the return count

I like Jake, but he can't compete with the heavy game. I actually felt bad for him getting push around like he did. He's speed and finesse. Even if he went in the gym, I don't know if that would help. He doesn't have the PO build.
I'd be hard-pressed to move Rust. He's a hard worker that can kill pentalties and but also can play along with Sid, and on the PP. He's more valuable that Jake is right now, if we are changing the dynamics of the team.

The Islanders were also two overtime goals away from losing to the Penguins in five games this year.

So, I guess most of you were right to pack it in following Game 5, after all. The Penguins had the lead 3 separate times in Game 6, and still couldn't hold it. The obvious blame falls on Jarry. It was a true test of his mental toughness after that giveaway in OT, and he failed miserably.

What I find interesting among the reactions here is: While so many people are ready to immediately cut ties with Letang, Malkin, Sullivan, and some others, Crosby always seems to avoid any criticism whatsoever. Why is that? 2 points in 6 playoff games this year. 6 points in his last 14.

When Crosby isn't producing, it's always Guentzel's fault. Or Rust's fault. Or (insert any random winger here)'s fault. Oh, they can't skate with him. Oh, they don't know how to play with a world-class talent. Oh, they can't think the game like Crosby. Oh, they don't protect him. I'm sick of this bullshit. Other than one great (and somewhat lucky) tip in the first game, Crosby didn't do **** this entire series besides turn the puck over on a regular basis.

When does Sid start to be held accountable in any fashion for these ongoing first-round exits?

The Islanders didn't roll the Penguins. Jesus they had exactly two chances to score in regulation in game 5 and scored on both. But I also think the Islanders will win at least two against Boston and have a decent chance to outright win the series.

Not an expert, but next year needs to have DeSmith or Legace or somebody else in net .... Jarry is not the answer.

He's an excellent #2 goalie, and may just get things together to be a legit #1.

I hope you all beat the Bs but if your team struggled to beat our ******, no hitting defense, no in front of the net presence, porous goaltending, sorry *****, good luck. You're going to need it.

I'd like to think Mario, check that, his associates are better businessmen than that.

I agree, I'd keep Rust over Jake. If we were in a different division maybe not but Rust has speed and some degree of toughness that might be improved upon. Jake is a good 3rd or 4th liner in the playoffs in my opinion.

I agree. I'm more business like when it comes to the players. I really appreciate all the sacrifice and hard work they gave but they were also well compensated. They would have done the same if they were hired by the Ducks, the Caps or the Whale if they still existed. I think that if you can make a deal with your aging stars to keep your team competitive and moving forward you have to do it. Otherwise you'll find yourself in the doldrums for who knows how long.

I have a hunch it will be one of them. The aging vets are not going anywhere. It’s pretty obvious how committed the Pens are to them.

I do want to see how Samuel Poulin pans out. If Rust/Jake are bait. I want a nice return.

Jarry is MAF early 2010’s. MAF had his struggles too. He solidified his mark in the league. So I’ll give Jarry another chance.

You may observe that. But honestly this is Mario Lemieux committed to his core.

Maybe they retire soon. I don’t think the Pens need to rebuild completely. They’ll be fine

I'm no fan of NY,but I absolutely hate all Boston teams. So in that I hope they win. I think one of those teams out west win it all anyway. I'd like to see Flower get another cup,so I'll be rooting for him.

I think you are over doing it a little. Penguins have a ton of firepower. Goalie was a problem and I could sniff that from Palmeri's first goal. Bruins Islanders will be 3-2 games.
