It was Pickens best game of the season. If Fields was consistently getting big plays to Pickens, he'd probably still be starting as well. The QB has to get the ball to the best playmakers and Pickens is the only threat this team has.
There is no doubt Pickens made great plays along with Muths catch. If a couple of those were dropped it might have been a different game. The Jets also seemed to let Pickens be 1 on 1 alot which was not a good gameplan. On the flip side Wilson threw balls that gave the WRs a chance. He also threw the ball away and did not fumble. I did not agree with him running QB sneaks. Those use alot of leg drive and seemed risky. I'm not going to get too excited beating the Jets who were decimated in the seconday, but we did look good and did what we were supposed to do.
On Pickens' juggling catch the ball hit the DB before Pickens because it was underthrown. Horribly. If he gets it out in front of Pickens, who had the DB beat by 3-5 yards, it might have been a TD.

You would be wrong.....Fields did get big plays to Pickens. Russ is starting though.
the key word in his post was "consistently" Fields was not consistently getting big plays with Pickens
Sure he did. Did every play count? Nope. Pickens probably had a 100 plus yards vanish because of bogus holding calls. A bogus offensive PI. Seemed there was one big play every week early on that was negated. Not because of Fields not getting the ball to Pickens but because of how the refs officiated the game. Pickens also dropped numerous balls. Dropped TD passes. Not on Fields. So yeah.....Russ was going to get his start regardless.
Sure was going to get a look. He was signed to start. Fields did have his opportunities to hold down the fort. For me it wasn’t what he didn’t do with Pickens, it is what he didn’t do outside of Pickens. And that is spread the ball around to the point it would keep D’s from crowding the line of scrimmage.
Someone mentioned that if Fields consistently made plays with Pickens he still would be the starter. And I stated that Fields did consistently hit Pickens and he isn't the starter. Russ was going to be the guy when healthy.
