So the world is talking about George's antics. Us fans are prognosticating his demise.
So what are the Steelers actually doing ?

1. Nothing, let it play out get what we can out of him and hope he don't cost us everything, while we know he also can gain us everything.
2. Play it out and pay him an extension, and still be in the same boat.
3. Trade him away. Get some picks and cut our losses.
Or
4. Get him the help he needs mandate somehow that he attends regular counseling. A psyche? Dallas did something like this with pacman back 15 yrs ago. Steelers always preaching the United way, giving back to the community. This young man is a millionaire with the same man child brain he had when he was 17.
Protect your investment .

He is a tremendous talent without a doubt but he will become AB 2.0 when he gets his second contract.

I'm not opposed to trading him in the off-season for a premium draft pick or a couple mid to late rounders.

Surely there will be a talented WR available in the draft to replace Pickens.

His antics are unique. DJ/AB were locker room and off field problems.

GP is an on field problem. His antics off the ball, grabbing players by facemasks and powerbombing on running plays and returns, creates an offensive player with anger issues much like Berfect had anger issues on the field playing defense.

Tomlin, the coaching staff, and his teammates are staring to put the heat on GP to grow up and mature so these anger issues don't hurt the team. Do it with his play, and if he can do that, and channel his energies into balling out and showing them on the field that he is the best, the sky is the limit for that kid. Jones (his college teammate) is starting to get in his ear and that is good to see.

If I'm the GM, I do not extend him next year. I tell him if he wants to get a huge contract, he needs to become a better team player and pay him at the end of next year if he shows he has matured. The only problem here is he may hold out, but the agents know exactly what it means if their player holds out on the Steelers. They will not negotiate with a player currently under contract, while they are not inside the building.

I would go as far as show him a contract that you would be willing to pay him if his on field antics were a non issue. The kids is a top talent and could be top 3 WR in a year or two max! Then show him a contract of what they are willing to pay with all the **** he is doing on the field. Let his eyes pop out. Money is always these guys incentive - let him see the difference between doing it right and doing it wrong!

Good post cope. But it begs the question, what are they willing to do? "to become a better team player " how does he get there. He obviously doesn't know how right now. Maybe behind closed doors, they do this sort of thing. (helping players with problems) So what im saying is ,, if im steelers im getting him some psych help.

I have to see how the season unfolds for a decide.

He has a chance to cement his status with good play and good decisions. He has an equal chance at being a headache.

So how he acts down the stretch including the playoffs will show itself one way or another.

Yeah cuz being a douche bag in negotiating is always a solid strategy, lmao

If you’re trying to piss someone off that would be a great approach. Dangling a carrot and yanking it away is just stupid negotiation policy.

Sounds like you haven’t negotiated too many deals in your past. Having hired and negotiated to retain several employees I would never use an approach like that but I like getting and retaining talent.

Luckily I’m sure Khan is much smarter than that.

Better strategy: show him a fair deal and add incentives for extremely low number of taunting/unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Then add some icing on the cake in the form of production bonuses to get his best effort and front load the guaranteed money so you have an escape clause after the first couple years should he become more problematic.

What will likely happen…

The Steelers will pay him like a top 5 WR or he will seek greener pastures where somebody else will. His talent is undeniable and receivers that are always open don’t grow on trees.

Could see a scenario where a franchise or transition tag is applied after next season…that could get quite contentious.

Only a 15% chance ( at best) that counseling will help.

I wouldn’t be able to agree or disagree as each case is solely dependent on the individual. You only get out what you are willing to put in. Complete honesty has to be involved and many a many men have trouble being completely honest with themselves. It takes as much from the therapist as it does from the participant.

You can't fix crazy/stupid. If we can use history as a guide he'll just get crazier and more stupid. Off-season trade our young Crazy Train.

Something that kinda cracks me up on this board is the relentless conception that GP is some sort of penalty machine. He has had 3 on the entire season (for reference 24 WRs with as many or more)

For further reference he is 16th in targets so his penalties are actually on the low-average end compared to his peers and target rates. Thus far we haven’t lost a game he’s got a penalty in this year…obviously his penalties are really costing the Steelers big time.

JPJ on the other hand is 3rd in penalty yardage in the entire league, and in all honesty should probably have more…so I guess Joey is a bigger headcase/undisciplined player than George.

But the media loves to try to bait George, paint a picture of him in a sort of light and the fans lap up the narrative, cracks me up. Is he unpredictable, sure. I actually find his unpredictable nature one of the more exciting things to watch on a weekly basis since it’s all just for fun anyways.

Nothing left to do but create about 5-6 threads discussing why Joey can’t keep his hands to himself. He obviously needs the microscope on him quite a bit more…hope they think long and hard when it comes time to resigning JPJ cuz ya just don’t know how many flags will be thrown his way any given play.

Bigger penalty machine JPJ or Broderick Jones?
One guy trending up one guy trending down…we’ll see what the Stains rematch reveals on that question as that should be a good test for both.

Good post @Fiji Mariner. The only difference for GP is he has a lot of questionable plays when he did not get peanlized, but they create picture of the type of player GP is.

He didn't get called for yanking a cowboy by his facemask or power dropping on a Commander, but those instances have no part of being in any game. This is the trend that I want to see end, because he's starting to feel like a Berfect light on O to me.

Most definitely several that could’ve been called on him, 100% true

Same with JPJ- I stopped counting at about 20

Oddly it seems like since Broderick has been taking on the role of calming GP (as his long time teammate) he seems to be playing more focused and penalty free. So I’m just gonna credit GP and his brand of crazy for calming and focusing Broderick thereby eliminating the 2-3 penalties BJ was getting a game.

So if the math is right GP is actually saving us several penalties that BJ would have committed now that BJ is focused and GP is now at a net of -2 penalties for the season 🤣

GP coached the penalties out of Broderick…he’s a genius, doing what the coaches couldn’t

Keep that crazy train rolling George!!!

I like your theory on GP helping Jones, but his entire game has improved since the bye. Kazora did an article on it. Probably improved coaching and the fact he had 2 weeks to rest that elbow.

Probably somewhat of a good distraction for BJ that allows him out of his own head as he’s focused on keeping GP collected

He has been improving since bye, recovering some from arm injury a bit too maybe or just less pain from resting it a week, hard to say

Whatever it is last week was one of his best games, hopefully he keeps trending in the right direction.

I’m gonna lean towards it definitely unequivocally without a shadow of a doubt NOT being improved coaching, I’ve seen Mayer’s body of work, I’d most certainly credit GP more than Mayer 🤣 I don’t think Mayer just had a light bulb come on
