Round one - Pickett

**** yeah no Willis ! ******* yeah!

But a QB who gets happy feet when he has a good pocket, runs to the edge like a Baker Mayfield(and Willis) when he should move up and read.... again: as he's under no pressure with a good pocket, bad touch with the ball, slow release, not good at leading receivers.....

I can't wait...LOL...but, I was seriously hoping they would not take a QB this year. Having said that he's here and I hope he can fix his flaws. He has the arm strength to make any NFL throw(again needs to work on touch). And most important of all he can throw with power on the run which fits what Canada wants to do.

Good luck kiddo!

I'm so happy the Steelers selected Kenny Pickett. He's a great team leader and is an NFL capable QB. Let's hope he's the next great Steelers QB. Good Luck Kenny Pickett!

Chicoman, with all of your great past analysis and excitement for Pickett, I'm moving away from the ledge. Kidding of course, but can you give some particular positives when you get some time?

Thanks man.

Oh Bermuda is NOT happy w/ this pick at all. We have 3 QB's that are all mediocre...
Berm he hasn't even put on a uniform yet let's not tag him mediocre.

Also for all the fans there is competition now, Rudy would have been barely that.

You knew the team was going to select a QB regardless if he was your favorite, give him a chance. Wasn't my favorite option, they got gobbled up. But now I will treat him as a possible solid pick until he isn't.

Tomlin smoke screened all your ***** with all that Malik Willis love talk. Hook, line and sinker. Wanted Pickett all the way.

I'm immediately skeptical any time a coach or GM "sells out" for a particular prospect to the media pre draft. It usually means they are just trying to throw everyone off their scent and they don't even want that guy. Unless they are at or near the top of the draft and are positive they can get their guy. Only then will they be honest.

The options were very thin when the Steelers were up as well. McDuffie, Booth, Johnson? The draft board was about as bad as it could get for the Steelers if you didn't want them to draft a QB.

I'm happy with the pick. I think we got a QB who has some skills that you like to see in a 3rd year as a pro from a young QB. Pickett is very quick at going through his progressions....something you typically don't see from a young NFL QB until Year 3 or 4 as a pro. He's has good pocket awareness and he's a mobile QB who can make plays with his feet too...he ran a 4.62 40 yd dash at the NFL Combine. His accuracy is some of the best I've seen from a college QB....he's not a 1 year starter like many young NFL QB's. Just give him a chance....I'm not concerned about his small hand size...that has been so blown out of proportion. He's going to surprise alot of nay-sayers....just give him a chance. We have a smart QB with a strong enough arm to make all the throws required by an NFL QB. He's a smart passer.

I like the corners but consider the value pretty similar. You are right though there was no stud DT no stud S. A run on WRs..Plus they know Pickett better than any other team I would think. I welcome competition. Rudy wasn't that for me.

My positive vibe is gone at the moment. Soooo freaking angry right now...

Ok some positives. He doesn't get rattled in the pocket, he was pretty accurate his last season which was phenomenal statistically. He can throw accurate on the run and can scramble. He also isn't a midget. I am going to focus on what he does have and hope he develops into something special.

So, riddle me this; why sign Mitch if you're going to draft a 24 YO rookie who you ran out in front of the cameras to proclaim 'NFL ready'? Do you need a 'bridge QB' or don't you? If you do, and Kenny is as NFL ready as he's going to be, then does he have no upside?

I don't get it at all. Maybe everyone else they actually wanted got washed off their board and they panicked? AND, they couldn't traded out of the first round, picked up another pick or two, and still got this stiff. Stunningly stupid pick.

What if Pickett wasn't available in the draft and they got Willis or Corral instead? Or what's wrong with having a quality backup if Pickett is a day one starter? It's really not that difficult to see why the Steelers plugged holes with veterans on relatively low contracts.

Oh yeah Tomlin is a master tactician lol...he had his pick of any of a bad crop of QB's for good reason: none of them are 1st round franchise guys, the other 31 teams knew that

They needed a QB, there was no guarantee they were going to get the one they wanted in the Draft, so you sign a Vet. MT was an affordable, decent option, but it doesn’t preclude taking the guy you wanted if he is there.

Ah yes, forgot he's 24 years old to along with his 1 good year at Pitt, this is just awesome

32 teams passed on Brady MULTIPLE times. So, you just never know. Odds are against draft a HOF QB after yours retires, but you just never really know.

It could very well be a situation where they fully intended to go with Trubisky in 2022, but just did not expect Pickett to be there at #20.

Having them compete for the starting job is far preferable to just handing the keys to Rudolph, which looked like a really possibility back in January.

I look at it differently. Maybe at 24 he comes in at the same point as someone who has sat for a couple of years. Maybe it just all came together for him last year, maybe without Covid he puts it all together a year earlier? What if he had been in the “Minors” from 22-24 and learning? How is that any different then learning in College?

How many passed on Marino and Rodgers?

It's unlikely Pickett ends up anything close to those guys, but one cannot automatically assume the type of career a QB is going to have based on how many teams pass on him.

So…the depth chart on opening day could be
1 Trubisky
2. Pickett
3. Rudy/whoever is on the roster and beats out Rudy
I don’t see trubisky starting, the upside to Pickett is the fact he’s ready to go now this teams loaded there is no rebuild going on with the offense it’s as good as it’s going to get.. theyll extend johnson, they have Harris, muth, claypool… this is it! go out and win if Pickett can’t win the job it’s s a ****** pick!

You are correct. The odds are against him, no getting around that. Teams pass on players all the time.

I for one am glad that they didn’t draft ANOTHER project in the early rounds.

Yeah, it's really got to bug you that your hero Mike Tomlin obviously didn't agree with the "Pickett is a one-year wonder" assessment so many of you had.

I'm noticing that nobody is claiming that Kenny is better than Mitch. Most here making noise like it might be a toss up. Then the pick makes less sense.

And if we just need QB bodies to 'fill holes' you could do that in any round other than the first.

The ONLY reason to pick a QB in the first is if you think he can lead you to the promised land right out of the gate. Instead, as of this moment you just spent your first round pick on your third string QB.

Seriously, this pick was bizarre. I'm telling you, they had their minds set on a guy who went a pick or three before and this was a WTF/panic pick.
