Steelers -clowns game thread (1st matchup)

Whatever. I'm done getting excited for this franchise. If they can prove me wrong and get to the big game, then I'll be hopeful again, if only for a single Sunday evening in early February. But I know, without a hint of doubt in my mind, that not gonna happen.

Unfortunately, not until Tomlin is gone. Not that I trust Art2 to hire a competent replacement anyway.

They could be 10-1 after tonight and I'd still be tired of Tomlin because of his sloppy 18-16 every week mindset and the way he manages the critical moments of the game. He's fool's gold.

Put this loss in the rear view mirror. None of us see our Steelers winning the Super Bow this yearl but who knows. The magic bean does crazy things. Enjoy the good times... Don't dwell on the bad... My favorite tune from the "old" days

Despite scoring two late tds, Dumbass play calling on offense lost this game.
Oh, there is more than enough blame to go around.

- This D might look good on paper, but they CONTINUOUSLY fold like a cheap lawn chair almost every time late in the game.
- This D, if you are being generous, gives 30 minutes of real effort in every game.
- The HC decides to take a 5yd penalty late in the game, instead of forcing a 4th down. That gives the Browns TWO chances to convert the first, while still fighting the clock.
- A professional punter who gets paid millions to just punt and hold kicks, can’t kick it further than some Pop Warner player who is10 years old.
- An offense that still can’t find their ***** with both hands, after 5+ years and 5 different Coordinators. All because the guy in charge of the team CONTINUES to refuse to allow those HE HIRES to do their job. That is the definition of insanity
- Attempting a 58yd FG in poor weather early in the game, instead of trying to pin the Browns deep with a punt
- Attempting a 4th down conversion at mid field early in the game, instead of trying to pin the Browns deep with a punt

Sure you can blame the weather, as well as the Refs, but that WHOLE TEAM lost that game, from the Owner on down. Calls are going to go the way that the NFL Owners want them to go. The NFL is NO DIFFERENT than WWE, and has been that way for years. It’s straight up entertainment, nothing more. Sure some games and teams are able to occasionally overcome the directives, but for the most part it ends up exactly the way they want. It doesn’t matter if they get bad publicity, because any and all publicity is good for the league. It’s just like politics, pick a clan, and never look back.

The weather was certainly a factor. I think play favored the offenses in the 2nd half.
The Steelers defensive schemes favor the offenses every game, nothing ever changes. 4th and 2, use 1 or 2 DL and play 10 yds off all receivers. If the weather makes it more difficult to play that way, so much the better.

I respectfully disagree. They made the big stop, got the turnover

Offensive play calling killed us all night. The infamous go route in 3rd and short that we’ve been seeing since the Fitchner years to give the ball back after it fails AGAIN! Only this time it’s in a fing blizzard with your running QB in-all on Tomlin
I agree the O was below the line, most of the game But after not pulling their weight, they got it together to score 2 TD’s in a matter of a few minutes to take the lead with not a huge amount of time remaining.

This D shyte the bed AGAIN when it counts, and not the first time this year either.

It'll still be alright. Are you going to remember this loss next year? If so, you should probably put things into perspective.
Well now the margin thins
Playing for the 3 seed vs the Rats

The difference between the 3 seed and getting the middle WC team at home and going on the road to HOU (the likely 4) could very well be the difference between a playoff victory or another 1 and done…but yeah, it’ll still be alright cuz it’s just football.

Happy Groundhog’s Day!

We have an away game against Cincy next, don't be surprised if we lose that one too.
1 game til the Tomlinship is secured and hoisted and 6 games left to get there

Relax we’re almost to the goal!!!
With plenty of games left obviously we shouldn’t worry about the impending stacking of division losses to **** teams and handing the Rats control

Happy Groundhog’s Day!

Don't want to be overly emotional following a loss to the Stains but this Arhtur Smith offense really isn't much better than Matt Canada's offense. It's different but better? Not by much at all IMO.

Far too conservative. Far too predictable.
Everybody in the stadium know we're running between the tackles on 1st and 10.
Everybody in the stadium knows they're running between the tackles on 2nd and 8.
Everybody knows we're throwing it on 3rd and 7 so the play action is a waste of motion.
Everybody knows where the ball is going on 4th and 1 - which we simply cannot seem to ever get that needed 1 yard.

Maybe once in a while, run a play action pass on FIRST DOWN!!
If that is far too "out there" risky then maybe run a play action pass on SECOND DOWN??

I get that they want to be a power running team. But the power running game isn't working consistently. I think part of that is we a re running when EVERYBODY knows that we are running and EVERBODY knows where we are running it!!!!!

Stale would be compliment for this Arthur Smith offense. We appear to be allergic to the goal line this season, just like last season,

Minkah is a problem. He's about done seems to have lost interest. Draft his hungry replacement.

Couldn't sum it up better than that.

No excuse for losing a 4th quarter lead to a 2 win Browns team playing a backup QB. Reminded me of the Playoff loss VS the Bills last year, Defense just folded when it counted.

Fields should have played A LOT more tonight. His running was effective.

Russ had 2 bad games in a row now. He wasn't going to be effective throwing in that second half. Fields should have been playing IMO.

This.

Call me out if you wish. The love-fest the media has for Wilson is like the love-fest they have for Tomlin. They are propping both up to be more than they are.

At this point, I would like to see Justin. He 'might' (low odds) develop into something. Russ is a stop gap and giving us no more production than Fields did.

Wilson's come back to earth.

Fields had 6 starts, Russ has had 5.

Russ has been sacked 16 times in 5 games (15 times in the last 4 games). He's not getting rid of the ball quickly.
His comp% is 63.1%. Fields is 65.8% as a compare
Russ has 7 passing TDs in 5 games. The last two games, he has just 1 TD and that came after 7 no-TD quarters in a row.
Russ has 1 rushing TD and 24 yds rushing on the season.
He has three turnovers - 2 INTs and a lost fumble.

Meanwhile Fields had 5 passing TDs in 6 games, 1 INT, no lost fumbles, and FIVE rushing TDs and currently has 274 yards rushing. Fields (with his legs and arm) accounted for 10 TDs and ONE turnover to Russ' a 8 TDs and 3 turnovers.

Give me the dual threat.

Meanwhile, as others have said, our Offensive play calling (handcuffed by Mr. We don't Live in our Fears) is as bad as it was under Canaduh. Look at the passing chart last night. If Russel Wilson is such a GREAT passer, why did we not use the middle of the field? 2 shots the whole game to the middle of the field? Only 6 shots beyond 10 yards?

1732305135753.png

This is v the Rats. 8 passes beyond 10 yards. 3 to the middle of the field.
1732306127458.png

Look at this shiz v the Jets. What??
1732306532072.png

But in NE, with a ROOKIE QB, they make these attempts including 12 passes beyond 10 yards and a lot of passes to the hashes/middle of the field.

Our Coordinators hamstring our QBs. We all know this. It's to the point of absurdity.

Thanks for sharing that data. Interesting to see a visual record of what we see in real time.

My biggest point (that I did not state earlier) was based on the field conditions in that second half.

Change of direction wasn't really possible with any degree of certainty. That means timing on pass patterns was thrown off. Receivers were slower in running their routes, coming out of breaks, etc. The QB timing would certianly be off and every pattern would take longer, putting even more pressure on the O-Line to hold a pocket.

I kept thinking that those field conditions were suited perfectly for Fields to run the zone read option plays that he often comes in for anyway. Why? It gives you 2 ball carriers attacking 2 different areas both with the advantage of running relatively straight lines without a bunch of change of direction. And on Zone Read plays, the DE would not be able to change direction if the QB keeps the ball. Those plays are easier to read and execute in bad field conditions because the defense has a harder time changing the direction of their momentum.

If Fields hands it off to Najee/Warren, the ball carrier is already moving toward the line of scrimmage. If Fields keeps the ball, he then generates his momentum to the end of the line of scrimmage in a relatively straight line. In deep snow conditions, straight line plays will ALWAYS WORK BEST.

At one point, the Steelers attempted a Jet Sweep. Terrible call in those conditions. The ball carrier is running parallell to the line of scrimmage with speed, then has to turn upfield, making a 90 degree angle cut in conditions that do not permit a 90 degree angle cut.

The Zone Read is a great scheme in those conditions. They should have run that concept 10-12 times in the second half. I think they ran it 3x with one of them going for 30+ yards.

Same issues for almost 10 years, with multiple different players and O Coordinators.

I wonder what the common denominator in all the sukatude offensive scheme is?

NO, The HEAD COACH is hamstringing our QB’s. He has been doing this FOR YEARS. I tend to believe that Big Ben did alot more of what ever the he!! He wanted to, than he was TOLD to do.

Wilson is done. He is old and and slow, when he took off running last night it looked so bad I was wishing he could run like Ben and Ben had a 4 minute 40 time. People keep talking about Wilson like he is still the Wilson that played in Seattle, HE IS NOT!! I don't think his play in Denver was a fluke, I think he is done and as of right now over rated. Russ was great at one time and will surely be in the HOF but he does not give us our best chance at winning right now, especially behind this O line.

I give the reigns back to Justin and without him having to look over his shoulder for Wilson. Unleash the kid and let him play, lets see what he really has, screw that 4th round pick.
