Steelers Draft Rumors

Oh, I hear you, DIC, I grew up in Northern California so basically zero news about Pirates, Steelers or Penguins. I would buy the Sporting News, a weekly tabloid that had information about all professional sports teams. The baseball info was excellent.

There was this board game called Monday Night Football, my best friend and I were both STEELERS die-hards. We would actually fight (literally wrestle-ish) to se who got to be the STEELERS when we played. His mom would have to break us up occasionally. About a 50/50 split.

Never heard of that boardgame, I am slacking.

I’m sure the Steelers will trade up simply because it’s what I think is the absolutely the dumbest thing to do.
I backed the move in 18 because that draft had little depth and was extremely shallow in the positions we needed… this one oozes depth where we need some help, and we don’t have a glaring hole… standing pat seems smart…

I was a 7th gr & 8th grader at the time.

Had to keep an eye out for man-eating dinosaurs while playing. It was that long ago................................

No the dumbest thing to do would be draft Peezy Jr. at 17. Trading up for a LT could have long term benefits.

JpJr isn’t the absolute top end shutdown corner we lack, but if we traded down into the mid 20’s and got him, I would be ok with that… next year that CB room is going to be really empty and we could use the kind of guy he is probably going to become if that handsy play doesn’t sink him.
I agree that at 17 tgere should be better options available and if there isn’t then one of those positions that we really don’t need has probably fallen and we should be able to get more capital by moving back and getting a solid piece like jpjr

I think the Steelers try to move up to get Christian Gonzalez. If they can't work a trade out they sit still and draft Deonte Banks. Given those two scenarios I actually would prefer the move up. I am just not very high on Banks. He has a lot of physical tools but he will need to be coached up and as we all know that is not Tomlin's strong suit. I also think Gonzalez needs to be coached up a little as well but he is a much more finished product vs Banks.

The dumbest thing they can do is trade 32 and not stay well in the 2nd round (preferably top half of the round). I've seen values where trading 32 would net the 1st pick in the 3rd and a 6th or 7th rounder. That would suck. We need quality, not quantity. You can get an immediate impact player at 32 and even with our 2nd 2nd round pick. Trade up to maybe 12, if you are sold we can get our starting LT for the next decade-plus as that shouldn't cost us either 2nd round picks. Moving up into the top 10 will and then some. Or, just sit at 17 and take the BPA since we have plenty of areas that need addressing.

I've never spent much time in the past wondering who should be taken, or the moves the Steelers should make, maybe it's because I have more free time now and having 3 picks in the first 50.

Anyhow, because of this, what's the over/under that if they do trade up, their guy will still be there? I'm sure they do their homework, but it would be more than disappointing if they trade up for say Paris and he's off the board at their pick.

Based on the value chart the #32 should net more like the first TWO picks in the 3rd round.

That's better or take something mid-second round and maybe a 5th. What I read earlier about the 1st pick in the 3rd and a late round pick would really piss me off if they did that. I still say use the pick and snag a guy you think will be a starter. I don't even care the position. It's a bonus pick for ****-canning Claypool so use it to hopefully get an immediate impact player. You will have 24 hours to figure out who that one player is and there's no need to reach. I'd even take the behemoth TE/OT from GA everyone is in love with.

P.S. My brain keeps bringing me back to Van Ness as our first pick. As I said weeks ago, I have been getting the same vibes with him that I got with Watt. I would not be surprised if he is the pick at 17 if he is there no matter who is on the board. I think they really like him. If they use him as an OLB, Highsmith may be beaten out (if Van Ness is given a real chance to do so but Tomlin may not allow true competition) or become expendable. Or, he could add 10-15 pounds and become, hopefully, the Cam replacement.

Smoke Screen..

I would support a trade up for one of the top-flight tackles, especially Broderick...

But I dont think they will pull the trigger on that.

The Steelers will select a corner but not Peezy Light...

It will be the kid out of Maryland...In fact,, one of Dino's old teammates..
Deonte Banks

Watched Good Morning Football on NFL channel this morning. They actually had a decent discussion regarding rumors, people/ agents/organizations releasing bs info for obvious reasons. One went so far as to claim he believes Carolina released Strouds poor numbers on the cognitive tests to justify their selection of another qb.

Read another article quoting the people responsible for those tests claim two of the scores for the top 6 qbs are wrong

Back to good morning football, they also mentioned that some person no one even knows posted on reddit that Will Levis has told family and close friends that he received information that he's going number 1. This has changed the betting odds on who will be the first pick. Anyone who has read anything about Levis knows he's extremely confident/cockey, he just might be expressing his belief or parroting his agent not to mention who's this guy on reddit. People are betting cash on rumors which doesn't surprise me.

I think almost everyone on this sight realizes rumors are just that and a majority are without foundation but it is that time of year.

I really can't wait to watch Thursday and Friday, not just to find out what the Steelers do but there's so many questions regarding the first round.

I cant believe in this day and age of social justice...that the NFL hasn't scrapped this test for QB's..

I understand they scrapped the wonderlic and it's called S2 or something like that. From what I understand it's like a video game presenting different defenses, reads, hot route (oh wait, never mind) etc presenting qbs with options and their reaction. Could be off a bit but there's so many variables with each decision a qb makes, his experience and trust in abilities, prior coaching and so on. At least in my opinion but what do I know.

wasn't aware of that....thanks for info.

At 32 I hope
I think I've gotten to the point where I definitely don't want Porter at 17. Too many flaws in his game when reading the scouting reports and the lack of making plays on the ball when compared with other prospects who should be available to the Steelers. If he wasn't Joey Porter's son, would the Steelers supposedly be this interested?

I mean there is some things to like like his tackling ability and long arms but yeah just high for me at 17. Not to mention there is a shitload of instinctive and some physical corners that is showing deep in depth. Deep enough that they don't have to slightly reach for a corner in 1 or 2. Content to let someone else have that experiment. As I said before he looks like a number 2 corner. Not that there is anything wrong with that, outside of the middle of round 1.

A lot comes down to value and projection. If you think Darnell Wright is going to be an above average RT vs. Jaxon Smith-Njigba who you believe can be a Pro Bowl receiver, do you pass on JSN because WR isn't a top need or do you draft him and give Kenny Pickett a trio of receivers who can potentially rival what they have in Cincinnati? You can run one million scenarios like this.

I hear ya. A team has to weigh in your example if JSN is a health risk. They might think that Wright is a safer pick with a lower ceiling in comparison but a higher floor. Hard decisions that I am glad I don't have to take on.

our team gets exponentially better with a stronger run game. Run games been weak. Chuks has been part of all of it. We could put coolie in the slot, if we can run the ball.
