Steelers trade for Justin Fields

The Steelers, for the last number of years, have not been much different.

FFS this team had a HOF QB and couldn‘t even win a playoff game. The so called Defensive Genius‘ Defense gives up 30+ point in every playoff game they did make. A Managing Owner that refuses to make needed changes, because he appears to be happy with winning seasons and the money that is rolling in.

I personally don’t think that Fields is going to a better opportunity. Nothing about this team organization CURRENTLY shows the ability to develop players, let alone remediate failing players. They tried it with Haskins and failed with him, I expect to see the same results with Fields. Hopefully that young man doesn’t make poor off the field choices that result in him losing his life too.
Sorry but if you think the Bears and Steelers situation has been even close, you need a reality check. It hasn't been what we expect but it hasn't been close to the Bears.

You gotta be a real dumb **** to sit on your couch wearing your clown suit and pretend you know better than the Steelers FO about the moves made the past week.

And to come to this site to try to sell your "knowledge" to people who aren't buying it. Some of these posts should be pinned for review during camp and the regular.

So what exactly to you expect out of a message board? Its sole function is for one to express their own opinions you clown.

Some people expect that on a message board, they will post something, changing everybody's mind to agree with them because, well, they are right.

Great trade not giving up much in draft capital. I'm just not sure what happens after this year. Isn't his 5th year option due now? Then, do they sign him long term without having him actually play in games - similar to what we would have had to do with KP. Wilson is sounding like playing for a few more years. I think it's a good move that now hinges on how they can work out keeping him here to see if he can actually help us without being on the hook for a ton of dead money if he ends up sucking.

And the Steelers were going to be in position to draft a QB of your liking how??
Trade up, we’ve done it a lot recently. Go get in the top 10, burn next years 1st round pick plus more, without a QB you have nothing, and you rarely get one drafting outside the top 10, see Pickett.

We only got Ben within picking top 10

Wilson will turn 36 this season. He's 100% not a long-term option for us, and we're paying him jack **** this year. If we sign him for a multi-year contract, it will likely be after this season, with the complete sell that he's going to be Fields' backup - or during a transition period to Fields. Shouldn't be a hard sell considering his age and he'll be making coin holding a clipboard.
Russell Wilson is never going to hold a clipboard to back up Justin Fields, or any other QB for that matter. His ego is too big -- he'd retire first.
Fields, at even a 4th next year, is a ******* bargain.

Other than Jayden Daniels, there's arguably no other QB in the draft I'd have wanted to get. I've been pimping Jordan Travis, and we could still take him.

The problem with Fields is that 5th year option at $25mil. I'm sure there were already talks to sign him to a new deal, as he's essentially a backup to a Super Bowl winning QB at this point in his career. And the sell is that no other team wanted him. Going from first overall to being traded for as low as a 6th, that's gotta hurt an ego.
While your point is well-taken, Fields was the #11 pick in the 2021 draft, not first overall.

All this means is we are stuck with MT for many more years.
Disagree, the FO saw that Tomlin couldn't develop his 1st round QB (wasted blue chip pick), couldn't make work of former 1st rounders and they are giving him a Win Now team with a former SB QB. If he doesn't get this team to the Conference finals at least I think he won't get a new contract

I love what Kahn has done with the QB position. Think about it: The three 2023 Steelers' quarterbacks will all be backups this season. The two 2024 Steelers' quarterbacks were both starters last year. Sounds like a major upgrade to me.

That means you think there are at least 4 stud QBs coming out of college because Chicago, Washington and New England are absolutely not trading out of their spots. Who are the four QBs you think are studs and who is the #4 out of that group??

You seriously think they are not extending Mike Tomlin before Sept. 1st. Really?
And you think this is a conference final roster? Bwahhhhaa c'mon.

JJ Mccarthey could be there at 5-10, I think he’s a fit for what Arthur Smith does but I’m not the GM

Our GM needs to be agressive in my opinion, pick his guy and go up and get him in the top 10, we are just treading water with Wilson and Fields, going nowhere important…wild card and out

The Steelers made wild moves at QB this week. They need at least two starters positions. There is zero chance they are drafting QB.

I am probably in the minority here....but I think our team is a **** show at the moment. Fields is on a one year contract unless we pick up his option. If we don't we very well could be right back here next offseason with zeeo qbs under contract. Simply crazy.
Ironically, if the Steelers have to compete to resign Wilson, Fields or both in 2025 it will likely be because they had much success with them in 2024. If that’s a **** show, I’ll accept it for a year.

Brett Favre, Dan Fouts, Sonny Jergensen, Joe Montana, Warren Moon, Ken Stabler, Bart Starr, Roger Staubach, Fran Tarkington, Johnny U, Kurt Warner, and Tom Brady all tip their HoF beers at you (yea, i know TB doesn't have his quite yet; he will). Ryan Leaf, Jamarcus Russel, Todd Blackledge, Joey Harrington, Tim Couch, JP Loseman, Rick Meyer, Matt Leinart, David Klingler, Akili Smith, Heath Shueler, Andre Ware, and Cade Mcnown all scatter for the doors. (just to name a few).

Yea, I am having some fun with you but in all seriousness its a crap shoot. Look at 2021 - of Trevor, Zach, Trey, Justin and Mac only one is still with his original team just 3 years later (and I would certainly not give Trevor an A for his play so far). Then look at 2020 - Joe B, Tua, Justin, Jordan and Jalen have all come into their own. Moreover, so much depends on the team as the player drafted. there is a reason those teams picked high and the jump from college to the NFL is enormous.

BTW: A bit of a nit, but Big Ben was drafted 11th.

I’d be surprised and confused if the Steelers take a QB before the middle rounds. I think they will use draft to shore up the roster and try to win now with Wilson/Fields.

Assuming there are no more significant trades or FA signing (perhaps a big assumption), if the Steelers were to trade up in the first, I’m inclined to think it would be for one of the premier WRs.

Do you realize you left out Russell ******* Wilson?

Also Drew Brees and Brock Purdy.

You do realize the list in the first sentence were all in the HoF, right? Well, except TB but we all know he will get in. So, yes, I realize I left a lot of people off that list else I might be typing for an hour.

Stewey: expressing ones own opinion is excellent but making demonstrably false statements over and over again and trying to pass them off as fact is what makes one a dumb ****. If the shoe fits, wear it with style

Some of you guys would rather be right about the stupid things you say on the web than the Steelers be right about the moves they make on the road to another SB.

Wilson has an ego. Wilson is a cancer. Fields is a journeyman. Fields is Corky. And on and on and on.

Next time you make a statement about something for which you can't provide hard evidence, save us all the trouble of reading your nonsense or preface it with "in my opinion" so you don't lose all credibility when you're proven wrong for the 20th time.

As far as I know, none of you has any NFL coaches or GMs on speed dial, has never been to a combine, and has never been involved in pro football in any way but attending a game or watching on a small screen.

20 years ago, I was good buddies with an NFL agent and the things I heard from him regarding players or teams were never in the news. We know nothing so stop pretending you know and enjoy the excellent moves this FO is making in pursuit of success. It's been over a decade now

I seriously hope.
