Steelers Will Sit Martavis Bryant Sunday

This benching could mean a trade is in the works. Perhaps to Detroit. Detroit signed Marvin Jones to be a big play WR and it hasn't panned out. Stafford sure could use a guy like Martavis. Maybe the steelers end up with Marvin Jones and a draft pick.

I thought about moves like this Watkins and Pryor are struggling with their new teams.

But doesn't seem like the Steeler approach. They are more likely to get a 5th round draft pick and call it a day.

But being that Bryant has enough on his plate that that even might be a hard find.

They probably will stick it out and see if this slap on the wrist, motivates him in all the right ways.

Thing is it still doesn't solve his underlining burst issues.

Hard to tell if he will get that back. If we will see that separation.

If you look at his stats his production was going in the wrong direction.

On a personality level he is a ******* tool. Every time I see a interview, he apologizes for nothing and comes across like a grade A *******.

For Steeler purposes I hope he somehow Felix the Cat finds his burst back in that magical bag.

But for now the arrow is pointing down and if he doesn't figure it all out, he will be riding that bench often though out the year.

We miss the old Bryant on the field. This new version sucks donkey dicks and I will show little to no love to.

Until he buys a clue.

Consistency?? As far as TE's go, James is a JAG (just a guy). He's alright, I suppose. Is McDonald the second-coming of Mark Bavaro? Prolly not, but there's no doubt he has more playmaking ability than james, and he's a solid blocker on most runs

Yep. That is who James is "JAG". James will catch just catch an 8 yard pass. Nothing more ...nothing less......but he will catch it. Vance makes passes that hit him right in the hands with no one around him look like a major effort. Sure they might be 20 yards down the field...but as Coach pointed out he will drop a bunch. So pick your poison I guess.

This is what you get for messing with Tomlin's damn agenda.....

Dave Bryan at Depot has been saying for well over a year that there's no way the Steelers give Martavis a second contract. I think Bryant is making that an easier decision for them every day.

All self inflicted wounds. A great teaching tool for young players just coming in.

Props to Tomlin. Needed to be dealt with now and not let this be the story line every week. If it doesn't fix it bench him for even more games next time.

This pretty well sums it up

Salute the natrion

I think we all knew the Steelers wouldn't give Byrant a 2nd contract. If they do, it would have to be heavy on incentives and staying clean.

They drafted JuJu this year early and I expect them to take another WR in their first 3 picks in the next draft as well. Although, they could go with a top end TE with Gisecki from Penn State. The dude is a nightmare matchup at 6'-6" with incredible high pointing of the ball. He is a pure athlete with size and speed.

Agree 100% with this. He showed moves on that catch Sunday that James isn't even allowed to dream about having.

Vance should start. I don't care if he catches just one or two balls a game. He blocks a ton, and we are a running team now. James is fine as a the # TE on short stuff.

Nothing but a bit of something called consistency.

As a blocker McDonald is very consistency. As a receiver James is like our 4th option, and so is McDonald, however with this conservative field goal type of offense I've seen lately, I'll welcome big plays and McDonald can make then, while James can not!

Typical reply from a revisionist like yourself. Coach Tomlin makes a bold, tough coaching move, and you berate the matchup. That is a flip flop on your own words of Tomlin not being a hard enough coach and too soft on players.

Give it a rest. Hunter will be more productive than Bryant ever was, and he won't ***** about it.

Hunter did something early in camp and has been quiet since. This is not the best game to Bench Bryant. Benching him for a quarter I think would have had the same message.

Hunter will be more productive than Bryant ever was, and he won't ***** about it you say? Sorry Cope, that is some serious BS.

Listening to Bryant's press conference , even if he was dressed, he does not seem to be in the game. Bad situation with Detroit's defense.

i'd not be surprised if Tomlin did activate Bryant tomorrow

I'd not be surprised if Bryant wasn't a Steeler by the end of the month (regardless of the company line they're not interested in moving him). I think after Plaxico, Sanders, Holmes et al the Rooney's are willing to put up with only one prima donna WR at a time. AB has that spot covered. Bryant's presser yesterday showed me just how nonchalant and flippant he is about the situation and this team in general. There may be a team out there willing to make the Steelers an offer they can't refuse.

I would be more willing if it was a player for player type situation.

As just letting him go for a draft pick leaves the team short at the position. Enough inconsistencies at WR for me to not want that.

I don't know TDX, I don't think the Steelers will give him a second contract, unless they sign him after he plays out this current one. Usually they pay their players with a year left, but Bryant has done nothing to merit a second contract with a year to go, yet. His value is nothing right now, so why pay him? Let him try and put up stats for a contract year, and if he doesn't get paid here, he will be paid elsewhere. By the end of next year, JuJu may already be the #2 receiver.

McDonald has more explosiveness. James can catch the football. Our Red Zone was a hell of a lot better when James was catching 2 TDs in a game...

I love that comment coming from you! I know receivers, and I too saw Hunter in the preseason when Bryant was out. He worked his *** off and made plays in the EZ. It will be nice to see him get a chance. It's not a coincidence that Hunter is going from inactive to starting. He is the same receiver as Bryant. He is a vet, he has the experience, and he will get his time to shine.

I am not worried at all this week with Hunter starting. I'm not worried that he will disappear like a 6'5" receiver seems to be doing every week this year...

I think a slow James is still more useful than McD in the endzone. At least he doesn't drop them, but still is like choosing between a ford and a GM, I still want a Land Rover

If he were to get an offer from the Steelers, it definitely would be after his current contract is up. He hasn't shown anything this year to get an offer. Then again, they could offer him something cheap that won't hurt if they do cut ties but, if he is bitching about being a No. 1 WR already, I don't see him staying here as long as AB is here.

I strongly feel there will be no offer for another Bryant contract. Hell I don't think he makes it onto next years roster...................

I just wish that Ferrari would have worked out. Green was the answer when he could get on the field.

I would be shocked if Bryant is offered another contract after this one by the Steelers. Even if next season he does put up the fantasy numbers Coach thought he would this season.
